HAL.dll Missing, Unable To Reboot During Installation

Jan 3, 2009

I have a laptop that is past its warranty from toshiba. Very shortly after its warranty expired, got turned on and at the boot menu gave a warning that I needed to insert the vista dvd and use the repair function. I couldnt find the dvd that came with it, so i went out and got a new copy. I did a fresh reinstall, but got an error saying windows was unable to reboot during installation, aborting installation. I formatted, and got another random error, so I went for a third time and it installed fine. However at the reboot to use windows for the first time it gave an error HAL.dll is missing. Who the heck is HAL, and where do I find this punk? More importantly when I find him, where do I put him because I cannot get into windows at all, even in safe mode.

Could Not Boot Orginal Installation Vista

Feb 28, 2009

Here's what I've run into. Installed Vista Ultimate x64 on my harddrive and ran into a problem with my motherboard (Intel DP45SG). End result was that I could not boot my original installaton of Vista. BIOS related. Tried all of the recovery options and none of them worked. Bit the bullet and reinstalled Vista fresh. Unfortunately I did not see the option to format the old info when I did this. This caused the old OS to be moved to it's own partition on my harddrive.

This old info on it's partition is only visible on Paragon Partition Manager 9 and not in Vista's Disk Management. Vista shows my harddrive as 936 GB instead of 1,000GB. I do not seem to have any way of accessing this partition or of getting rid of it. Paragon PM shows the partition as being unformated. When I try to format it or delete it with Paragon PM I get a message that this can only be done with the Recovery CD. This partition does not show up in the Recovery CD when it's run. I don't want to give up 70gp of hard drive room just the hell of it!!

Repair XP Installation An Dual Boot Machine (with Vista).

Apr 10, 2008

I have a PC that had XP pro installed 1st. Then I installed Vista using the dual boot option on the vista DVD. Everything went well and it all worked fine. I've been happily using Vista for months now, and I've not used XP for some time. But now I need to use it, and it won't boot up.

It gets as far as the log in screen. But the keyboard and mouse don't work. (they do during boot up as I can use the keyboard to choose the OS). Same thing in safe mode. How can I repair the XP installation (or do a new one from scratch), with out messing up the Vista installation and keeping the dual boot option.

Installation Of Multiple Boots - Clone Disk Image And Set Up Boot Manually?

May 3, 2008

I have a need to install 4 systems of Vista on a single machine (4 partitions of my main system hard disk). Given that Vista always seems to see its own system drive as C, would it be possible to create my "master image" with SP1, all my drivers, utilities, system tweaks, and other "generic" applications (like Office/Acrobat etc), and then just clone this drive across to all the partitions I need to set up (on D, E, and F). Then, using VistaBootPRO, I could edit the BCD to include all the other partitions. Can anyone think of a reason this would not work?

XP 7 Triple Boot: System32hal.dll Is Corrupt Or Missing

Jun 12, 2009

I had a perfectly good dual boot Vista and XP system until I installed Windows 7 RC. I installed Windows 7 RC to a new partition on the Vista (slave drive) with XP installed on the master drive. Vista and Windows 7 booted okay but despite there being 3 options in the boot menu - Earlier Version of Windows (XP), Vista and Windows 7, XP would not (and will not) boot. The error message when selecting XP from the boot menu was that the boot.ini file is invalid; I then get a message saying that the system32hal.dll is corrupt or missing.

I used EasyBCD to restore a backup of the previous Vista boot loader which worked with XP. Windows 7 disappeared from the boot options but I still cannot boot in to XP - I get the same error message (boot.ini and hal.dll). I can boot in to Vista. EasyBCD tells me that there are 2 entries in the Vista bootloader:.....

Boot Loader, Missing /ntldr File

Apr 30, 2009

installed Windows 7 Build 7100. eh... works great and looks wonderful but i have a few issues here. i can't seem to boot into Windows 7 without setting my Windows 7 Install Files Partition to Active in the Disk Management within Vista. when i restart the Boot Manager comes up and i am able to boot into Windows 7. now if i wanted to boot back into Vista i would have to active the Partition within Windows 7 and restart. all i'm wanting is to be able to boot from Vista and Windows 7 from the Boot Manager without having any errors with Windows 7 while accepting to Boot. i get a missing /ntldr File...

i have downloaded easyBCD and VistaBootPRO. i find both programs are way similar and do the same jobs. with vistaBootPRO it show Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Install Files Partitions have no direct path to any boot file thus here's the problem/issue of not it letting me boot. what do i have config'ed wrong? Image of the entry for Windows 7 and Windows 7 Install Partition under VistaBootPRO i have added both the Windows 7 and Windows 7 Install Files Entries. Here's the Disk Management screen shot in Vista

Dual Boot: Could Not Be Loaded As The Application Is Missing Or Corrupt

Jul 29, 2008

wanting to add XP as an addl os using dual boot. I managed to get XP installed along with Vista home basic, but apparently messed up the boot sequence. I can can boot Vista, but not XP ...error window says file: tldr status: 0xc000000f the selected entry could not be loaded as the application is missing or corrupt

I used Vista Boot Pro 3.3 to set the booting. If I set VPR to install legacy booting, it will boot up with XP (no dual boot choice), but not Vista. If I select use legacy boot for selected drive E (XP), it says it is set, but a reboot brings me back to the error above. If I use VBR and set booting for Vista, only Vista boots. I have tried using the XP CD to do a repair install, but it asks for a password, which I never have set. When I hit enter, it keeps asking for password, then times out after the 3rd failed attempt. I only have the Vista backup CD (2 actually) from Dell, not an install Vista CD. My hd is a SATA, and I see that may be a problem by reading other threads here, but I have no floppy drive, only the cd/dvd. If I need another file which may be missing, can someone point me in the right direction ?

From Computer Management, Storage (in Vista) wanted to extend the Vista partition by creating a third partition from the XP partition, thought I could extend the Vista partition but couldn't. Then decided to put the unallocated partition back in XP partition (same session). When I re-booted got "Missing MBR" error message. Able to get Vista to boot again from off the install CD. But no more dual boot possible. AM able to see XP partition in Vista. How can I get back to being able to have the dual boot option?

Vista Installation Disk To "fix" A Vista Boot

Apr 28, 2009

Does anybody know exactly what might have happened to require me to use my Vista installation disk to "fix" a Vista boot problem? Here's the situation:

I have five OS installations on one hard drive -- each in a separate partition. When I boot, the Microsoft boot "loader" gives me a choice of "Older Windows Installations" (a separate screen from which I can choose either of two XP Pro installations), Vista 32-bit, Vista 64- bit, and Windows 7 Beta.

Over the weekend I realized I was running out of room in my Vista 32- bit partition, so I ensured all the partitions were backed up individually with Ghost and deleted all the OS partitions but my C: partition (one of the XP installations) using the Windows disk manager. Then I rebuilt and resized the partitions and reinstalled the OSs using Ghost.......................

Boot Failure - Dual Boot Situation

Mar 23, 2008

I have more or less completed all the driver upgrades and windows updates but I keep getting repeated boot failures of Vista. I can always get into Safe mode but in Normal mode the boot fails just after the first spash screen at the point when the screen goes blank to be replaced by the small circular Vista logo. After 2 or 3 attempts it succeeds to load but then the problem seems to reoccur, particularly when I have been back to XP for a while.

I had a similar problem with XP but that seems to have sorted itself out. I have tired looking in the logs for faults and failures but no clues there. I am running an ASUS P5E MB with Intel Quad 6600, 4Gig RAM, GeForce 8800GT and 2x250Gig HDs.

Fix Boot Logo, BOOT Screen No Works

From there I have been to a few other sites and moved on to fully customizing my desktop/login and……well…this is where I stuffed up…My BOOT screen no longer works properly, even with the original “winload.exe.mui” file replaced.

I downloaded and used “Vista Boot Logo Generator” I loved the results on my last install…It worked well. Upon deciding to do a fresh install with Tweaking in mind, I simply coppied over a Boot logo I made previously after allowing permissions and all that as well as changing the NO GUI in msconfig…ect….BUT......

Vista partition to active? (Paragon Partition Manager). Will it then automatically boot into Vista (which has no boot.ini)?

Boot Time And Boot Drive (not Listed)

Jul 1, 2008

I've had Vista x64 installed for about 2 full months now and I've recently begun having a lot of problems. One being: 187 seconds. What the hell? Before you ask, here are my specs. Lots of fast memory, a fast processor, 7200RPM boot drive (not listed), and ****ing awful performance. What gets me is that the delayed boot time is before I even see the "Welcome" screen.

My current boot time distribution:
1. BIOS does all its fancy stuff very quickly (about 6-7 seconds or so)
2. I get to my boot loader and it defaults to Vista after 5 seconds (dual-booting Vista/Ubuntu).
3. I then see the Vista loading screen (black screen with green loading bar) for about 4-5 seconds................
