Just created a Windows Live email account (and hotmail account) because my current email provider is closing shortly. I prefer to use Windows Vista Mail but I can't find any pop3 settings for Live mail (or hotmail) Any pointers/links? P.S. I noticed Live mail front end includes newsgroups which i use a lot - I also use filters/rules - I also use Live messenger - Is it as good as Vista Mail?

It's very hard for me to send out attachments or just general mail unless I have it. I'm using Windows Vista and I do have an hotmail email account. View 5 Replies View RelatedCannot get Windows mail to connect to my Yahoo POP3 server. Contacted Yahoo and we installed telnet and successfully connected to the servers through there. Old computer had Outlook express connected to the same account and I had no problems. Have checked the setting numerous times to insure they are correct. Have tried different port 's and different configurations - get different error messages but still no luck. Have checked all the firewalls (only have one on) and it has been configured to let Windows Mail have full access.

I have a problem with the security settings in IE7. Everytime I reboot my settings change and I have to restore them. I have the settings set in custom level to allow programmatic clipboard access but it disables that and some other settings after a reboot. what I can do to make my settings stick?

a) Windows Update- Windows update is failing to load any new updates available, after selecting "check for updates" i am responded with an immediate error; it states. Windows could not search for new updates. Error(s) found: Code 80040154. Get help I have googled my error code but not many responses. So thats my first concern
b)Live Messenger 8.1- Secondly, i was shocked to find my msn wasn't working (works on web based version, so cant be wrong login details) first the typing was slow then i get the error code: 800401f3 denying me login. I searched up the code and found i had to type up some things in cmd...........

I now have a Windows Live import box stuck on my Desktop that I cannot get rid of and I cannot get into my Windows Mail anymore. View 4 Replies View RelatedI want to use my laptop with Vista x64 as both "HTPC" and as a Work computer. Problem: When using it as a HTPC i need to change the DPI scaling in order to be able to read any text on the 27" screen. This is perfectly fine, but when using it as a Work computer this DPI setting wont look nice on the 15" inch screen. So I have to change it and restart the computer, a very awkward process in the long run. One idea i had was to create two users with one used for the HTPC since the DPI setting is global (HKLM) together with screen resolution and other hardware settings (like sound output). I basically just changed the Font size, Icon size and Border sizes for the HTPC user. This works sort of but, unfortunately, only seems to be valid for the Desktop and a select few menus in Vista (like the start menu, main control paned window) most sub windows and dialog boxes are still displayed with the puny 9 pts font
Another wild idea might be to run a "DPI Change-script" at startup, if it's even possible to change the DPI that way. Has anyone tried anything similar? I suppose it needs a restart anyway, but at least it would be automatic. Is there a registry tweak to make the font change apply to everything in Vista. or, a tweak to make the DPI setting Local? (i.e only aplies to current user) I guess, if it would be possible to make Windows apply these (DPI) changes without needing a restart, that would be acceptable.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have tried on many occasions to change my SMTP port from 25 to 587, but after I apply my changes and exit Mail and restart Mail, my SMTP ports resorts back to 25. The same thing happens when I change Outgoing Mail Authentication settings. I make the changes and things work, but as soon as I exit the program nothing sticks. Running Vista Home Premium with the latest updates.

when I pressed the download button, I saw the file was named wlsetup-web.exe. Does this mean that to install Mail, I will first be installing the framework for installing any other Live applications I may want in the future? That is, is this like installing only Word from the Office suite?
i have a hewlett packard computer thahas vista home edition in the motherboard. and windows live keeps opening itself over and over and over sometimes it tries to open 5 copies of itself at once. and i have done several spyware scans with several different pograms including norton, adaware, spybot, mcaffe and windows defender. i and spyware free on my hard drive yet this progran will not leave me alone!
if i play a game.. it closes out me gaming window every 3 seconds some times demading my attention if i am surfuing the internet it will over ride my keyboard and make itself the formost window. if i close the program out completley it restarts itself and will try to run 5 copies of itself at once.............
Does anyone know if there is a way and if so how to have Windows Live Mail open by default to Newsgroups? I don't use it for Mail. I just use it for these newsgroups. Every time I open it, I have to click on Newsgroups. I would like to be able to open Windows Live Mail and have it directly open to Newsgroups.

PoP3 Server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
SMTP Server: smtp.live.com (Port 587)
I have used this information exactly in the correct spots and i don't know what I've done wrong
Windows Mail is so buggy I am beginning to feel I shall be forced to use Windows Live Mail, which I dislike imtensely. Almost wonder if that is what MS want and therefore dont fix WM. In Windows Live Mail, is there any way of sizing or moving the list of email accounts which dominates the whole of the left hand column? I have many accounts and having them take up so much space is just awful. It's the huge account headers that cause the problem - really bad design. Also, how does one get buttons for the common functions onto the menu bar? Or is this impossible and yet another bad design flaw? Why on earth don't MS provide OE for Vista? There was nothing wrong with it and the demand for it seems enormous.

After many attempts to send 1 email, I changed my outgoing server name several times, apparently incorrectly. I don't know how to go back to the default settings.
I cannot use or change the settings of Windows Update in any way. I've tried reinstalling the Windows Update Agent, but nothing changes. I have found no way of uninstalling it either. This alone is not the biggest problem, but the program has set itself to default and downloads hundreds of MB's of useless updates daily, which forces me to wait 30 minutes before the laptop turns on, and another 10 minutes of "reverting changes" because they "were not configured properly". Is there any way to fix this besides reformatting or reinstalling the OS? Install missing files? Somehow disable the agent? Uninstall it?
I want to change the settings of Windows explorer to open in a specific folder. I can do this for the shortcut under Programs>Accessories> Windows Explorer. But doing so does not affect the settings of Windows Explorer when I invoke it with the keyboard shortcut : "Windows-Key + E"
