My Vista Explorer (desktop) experienced a problem and closes after which it re-opens, and then closes again. It carry on indefinitely so I cannot do any thing on my PC. Take note - it is not IE!

when i type something in the Run command e.g ipconfig it opens and closes immediatly, if i type msconfig it opens perfectly and doesn't close. any1 know why it closes when i type ipconfig?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed IE8 today, finally, after a clean boot and everything went great and seemed to run great. I selected a few add ons but only those shown and recommended within the IE8 tour. I do not have Google Tool Bar. Actually, everything seemed to be working fine and then later in the day I downloaded and installed History Killer Pro. I don't know if this could cause a problem or not. It's Vista compatible. It seems I can open IE8 and use it fine for the most part, but for instance, I used the snipping tool to make a screen shot snip and when I open that from my desktop where it was saved as a gif, IE closes every time.

1. I can always open the document from within Word.
2. And here is something I just found out: I just closed Word and attempted to open the document again from within Explorer, and the document opened without a problem.
Running Word 2007 SP2 on Vista HP SP1. I (just) checked the Event Viewer to see if it recorded the problem, and could find nothing...amazing, since it seems almost every mouse movement and keyclick is logged.
In folder options it has selected "Open each folder in the same window" but it never does. When I right-click and choose explore it opens in the same window as expected and it is the default action however if I double click a folder it always opens it in a new window.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI got this problem after I installed Vista SP1. Inside Windows Explorer, when I double click a folder in the right pane, that folder is opened up as a new second window. No matter what I change in the settings window I cant get rid of this. If I instead right-click the folder and select "Browse", the folder contents is shown in the same window, but (as I said) double click the folder icon, a new window opens up. Seems to me that "double-clicking" a folder in the right pane triggers the "Open" action instead of "Browse" action.

I recently switched from IE7 to FireFox 3(Should have done it A LOT sooner!!!). I love the program except for one thing. In the Vista Start Menu when I click on my email button it still opens with IE7. Is there a way to fix this so that it uses FireFox instead?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to change the display filename colors in Vista Windows Explorer similar to the MAC O/S Feature. This question does NOT deal with Encrypted Files or Compressed Files. I simply want to change the display names of the files to colors such as BLUE, GREY, etc., just like I can do on the MAC O/S for the past 5 years.
I do NOT want to use any third party software file managers. There must be a way to do it in Windows since APPLE has been doing it for 60 months now. I can't believe that Windows STILL Cannot perform this simple task! If you have a working solution using Windows Explorer please email me and let me know.
I wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once I removed it. Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer for Vista. Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Close it, then open it again. It should be instantaneous. But its not. A window will take over to 10 seconds to show its initial contents. Once its open though, its very fast because the instance is already running. But once it closes it will take another 10 seconds to open again. Internet Explorer 8 itself opens up very slowly even after the first opening. Can any Vista users verify this?
1. Install IE8
2. Go: Start > click Computer
3. Close that Window.
4. Repeat step 2.
Is it an instantaneous opening or does the window take more than 5 seconds to populate? Repeat those steps with opening Internet Explorer. Is it the same? If so, welcome to the club. Does Microsoft have any way to report this bug to developers?
Dep closes regular IE8 off for some reason under Vista, who knows this problem ...

View 9 Replies View RelatedGreetings, running Vista Home Premium 64-bit on a Dell system, has 2 optical drives (Blu ray burner, DVD burner). If I open one or both drives, moments later they will close on their own. This only happens when Windows is loaded (that is if I just boot to the BIOS screen and open the drives, they stay open), so Windows must be doing something that's causing the drives to close on their own?Note this is a fresh install of Vista, for various reasons we had to wipe the system and re-install Vista and the Dell drivers from scratch, there's no other updates (including MS Updates) applied - the Vista version is SP1 already though.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought my dad a brand-new laptop computer with Vista 64-bit Home Premium pre-installed. Almost immediately, we started noticing a rather strange problem with this computer. Seemingly at random, the operating system decides that it doesn't want us to select a file in a file dialog window (if I select Open... within an application and then browse to select a document to open, for example), and so it closes the browse dialog a few seconds after it opens, whether or not a file has been selected, and when it does this, the entire application closes as well. For some reason, this dialog seems to make its application crash. I've never seen anything quite like it before.
Sometimes this browse dialog works without any problem. But once it starts happening during a given login session, it will happen every time that dialog appears. Does anyone out there have any clue why this might be happening? The computer is brand-new and has very little software of any kind installed on it other than the crap that comes pre-installed.
My problem is that whenever a friend of mine sends me an email, Windows Mail shuts down and I am unable to read the email in time. This has only happened with this one person. Mind you I used to receive her emails with no problem in the past. I don't know why this is happening now. I don't have any problems with anyone elses emails, only this friend.

Now, we can still print but no matter what program we print from... it immediately stops responding and Vista closes the program (IE7, Mail, Office, etc). Tried reinstalling the printer drivers (the latest from canon for vista) with no luck. Have not tried to roll back the SP1 update.

The bizarre thing is, when I close Excel 2003, the "90 degree rotation" from the onboard Intel Video driver is triggered and the screen rotates. If I go into the driver settings and disable the 90 degree turn hotkey, the issue goes away. My concern is why this even happens. I've tried the latest driver from Lenovo and from Intel and repaired the office install and no change. This only happens from Excel, not from Word or any other program and only since the Vista Business sp1 upgrade.

A report will be generated so Microsoft can tell me they will "research my problem" So every day for two weeks I have sent Microsoft a note telling them my problem should be their problem. I installed a new dvd reader and get the same respond which is "not responding" I update all my drivers and again try to read my game only to have Vista explorer tell me to reload explorer and we will generate a report Has this happen to you? View 9 Replies View RelatedUntil yesterday my internet worked fantastic. I could click on a favorite or my homepage and instantly be on the site. Now, all the sudden whenever I click on a page it takes 10-15 seconds (sometimes more) before the page 'hits'. It will then load as fast as before. The problem is this new 'waiting period' before the page loads. I have a high speed connection with 27795 kbs down and 958 kbs up. I thought maybe my browser had become corrupt somehow so I upgraded to IE8 but still have the same problem. My system is spyware and virus free (just checked twice).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was always able to click on the clip for an attachment to open in Word or Excel and it opened immediately, without having to save the attachment. All of a sudden, I can't do rhat. When I click on it, Word or Excel opens, but it tells me it can't find the file. If I click on save attachments, it does that to my documents and then I can open it up. I "repaired" Office 2007, in case there was any glitch that happened with that, but it didn't change the situation - What might have happened, and how can I fix it so that attachments can open directly when I click on the clip on the e-mail.

There are no relevant messages in the event logs etc. I can save data to it (via apps, word, excel, downloads etc). I just cannot see it in windows when I go to my computer. Also, can't seem to find anything pertinent on the web, lost about a vista drive not being seen by windows 7 (vice versa), but not what I am looking for. View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a new dell studio laptop and it came with Windows Vista. I just bought it two weeks ago and its driving me nuts. TO the point that I don't even use it. When the letter "h" is typed in, history opens up. When the letter T is opened up, a new tab opens. THis is so frustrating. I searched the forum and there was a similar post to remove hotkeys. There was a link I downloaded and it was supposed to remove the hotkeys from registry.
