Garbled Video During DVD Playback In Media Center
May 29, 2008I've just installed Vista Home Premium SP1 and the DVD playback picture is all garbled in Media Center - lots of mainly green, pink and purple blocks with an occasional flicker of a proper image. The audio is fine and playback with PowerDVD is fine too (dont want to use this as I cant get 5.1ch sound without buying it), I have uninstalled PowerDVD but to no avail.

Jul 29, 2009I have been dual booting Vista and XP for a couple of years. I have never been a fan of Vista but installed it so I could learn my way around since I work on other people's computers.. A couple of weeks ago I added Windows 7 RC1 (build 7100). Unfortunately, a major problem I've always had in Vista is still there in Windows 7. My problem is jerky video playback, frames freezing momentarily. It doesn't seem to matter what format the video is in or what player I'm using. It also occurs when watching TV. Interestingly enough, I can record TV in Vista (even while it's jumping) and if I go back into XP to play it, ity plays flawlessly.
I originally had Vista Home Premium 32 bit, but upgraded it to 64 bit a few months ago. I had hoped that would cure the problem but it made no difference. I have spent days googling and find all kinds of people who have had the same problem but no one has a cure. Needless to say, I have the latest drivers direct from the NVidia site installed. My video "experience index" is 5.8. That's up from 5.2 a couple of days ago when I upgraded from a 7600 GT to a 9800 GT. (Which made no difference either).
I have tried various "tweaks" to no avail. I've tried with Aero turned off. In WIndows 7 I turned off the "gadget" service. To no avail. Surely as much as this problem is talked about someone has come up with an answer. If they have, I haven't run across it yet.

Ifran reports: width 640 height 471 bitsperpixel 32 frames 378 (25.0 fps) length 15.12 seconds actual playback is too fast at about 9 seconds (Windows Media Player) with 'chipmunk' sound. playback on the camera is 15 seconds camera manual says that in 'Std' mode it should be about 17 frames/sec. Vista Home Premium, SP1, all patches from Automatic updates. Must be something in my setup as I don't see this as common in my Google search.

Jan 8, 2009(it's been a while since I've needed this kind of support so let me know if more info is needed) Anyways, from the moment Vista plays the logon sound there is static crackling and chirping noises whenever there is audio playing at the same time as any kind of visual change on the screen (not every screen update). For example videos on websites that play them as plugins are especially static-y. However, playing a fullscreen game (i.e. World of Warcraft) does not produce the static.
Interestingly, I have now tried two different video cards. The Nvidia and now a ATI Radeon, both have the same identical problem. I first thought that it might just be a Nvidia Issue but this is not the case. I have checked for IRQ conflicts and none exist that I can find. I have updated Windows as much as I think I can. I've tried changing Creative drivers as well.

Dec 29, 2009I've checked through other threads and I'm not sure if any one else has this same issue. I suspect the problem comes from a Windows Update. I'm not sure how to reload an update and I'd rather not uninstall and delete and reinstall and change things when I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing. Everything else works fine. Web surfing is smooth, there isn't any problems loading programs ever since I restored factory setting from Gateway, because of the same issue. I had to restore from the hard drive because the disc (Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP1) refused to work. I think that's because somehow my computer isn't 32-bit, its 64-bit. Then after going through setup and all the updates, SAME ISSUE!
It could be Media Player, Internet Explorer, or Adobe Flash. I get the feeling its a corrupt update, or one of those programs isn't compatible with Vista 64-bit. Those programs load (Adobe not so well) and I didn't put them there or upgrade them, Windows Update keeps on top of that. Also, this problem may have been there awhile, or just started. I know I just started to notice it. Then I checked with an older version of Windows on a different computer and yeah, that movie trailer loaded and played like mine used to. So I'm almost positive its my system not the website.
Canon Digital Camera - Motion JPEG - Won
Mar 23, 2008I have a Canon S3IS digital camera which can take movies. The movies show an .AVI extension and (I think) use an MJPEG codec. After transferring the movie files to my (Vista) hard drive, their behavior is erratic:
- The movie files *will not* play in Windows Media Player. The WMP error message is: "Windows Media Player encountered a problem while playing the file". Clicking on Web Help reveals: "You've encountered error message C00D11B1 while using Windows Media Player."
- The movie files *will not* play in Windows Media Center; WMC says "Cannot Play Video - Windows Media Center cannot open the file".
- If I import the files into Windows Movie Maker, WMM appears to play them, but the preview screen is black............
Windows 7 Beta, 64x And Vaio, And Motion Eye Webcam
Mar 5, 2009Got my motion eye working under Win7 64x. Link below for the drivers. I have the Vaio SZ650n/c, and all but a few keyboard hotkeys are working. The volume hotkeys work by default with win7. (maybe in hardware) Brightness is available by right-clicking the battery indicator (by clock) or by running "windows mobility center". For my SZ650, I had to install the SFEP and SPIC drivers to clear device manager. I could not find hot key drivers in 64x.

Where you change the resolution, it will allow me to go to 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1280 x 1024 & 1600 x 600 - 800 x 600 works fine, but anything above that, & I have to scroll around to see the start menu etc. Is there anyway of going to a higher resolution and compacting this into the screen without scrolling?

32: Dvd Playback Degraded?
Feb 6, 2009I'm seeing that standard commercial dvd plays back with some jagged edges in vista. Monitor is a 42" 1080p HDTV. Playing the same dvd in xp on the same machine (it's dual boot) shows no jagged edges. Could I be seeing the effects of vista content degradation due to drm? Tests are done with the latest vlc with the same settings on both OS. I can't use media player for the test due to an old crt attached using vga without EDID (a content protection violation).

Graphics Card Upgrade Killed DVD Playback
Mar 23, 2008Upgraded from 7300se to 8600gts, and now using a DVI connection instead of VGA. Used to be able to play DVDs through Media Centre or WMP11, but now I recieve the error C00D1163 - that "there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card". I have the newest nVidia drivers, newest soundcard drivers. Any ideas - I'm using Vista Home Premium 32bit. Oh and DVDs play fine through PowerDVD or VLC, but I want to be able to use Media Centre because I have a remote - and also out of principal that I can't fix it!

In XP when you clicked the mixer you could easily adjust the playback/output levels of Line in and Mic. It is really pissing me of that, since i have a TV tuner card with an external cable connecting the audio from the card in to the Line in, i have to go to Playback devices -> Speakers -> Levels -> Line in| every time i want to adjust the sound level coming from my TV card. May 17, 2009Anyone else notice this in regards to BD movies? On saturday I "upgraded" my working 2217 build to build 2705/2815 then there is no audio, and the video freezes at movie startup. I then reinstalled/restored build 2217, and still had a different issue: a message to update, or there would be no Blu-ray playback. The "update" opens up a IE window to download Build 2705. Of course the issue here was If I updated, then I had no audio and the video froze/crashed the player. I figured out how to fix the issue, but I dont know what caused it. Its as if the Player will longer connect and update/authenticate the playback keys, Unless using a newer build, and those newer builds are non-functional/glitchy. I fixed the issue, and now Build 2217 plays all again, but had I not backed up the Cyberlink/Powerdvd folders I would be stuck with a non-functional player.
I suspect the older build upgrade/or no playback message is by design. They want to force updates on those using player builds that can read BD files off the drive, and that use AnyDVD to break the encryption. I tried two Movies; BD Spiderwick and BD Hellboy II. Anybody else try to update their build and have a "no play/no sound issue with newer BD movies? Anyone using PowerDVD Ultra for BD playback, try installing the newer builds and then try to play a June 2008 or newer release BD movie. (just to be safe though, back up the Cyberlink folder, and Powerdvd programs folder for restoration if need be)

No Video On 64 Startup, Change Video Settings
Apr 19, 2008I have a quad-boot Intel CoreDuo machine with 4 GB of memory and an ATI AIW X1900 Radeon (multi-booting courtesy of EasyBCD). To put the matter as quickly as possible, all four systems (Vista 32, Vista 64, XP, and Ubuntu) have been happily coexisting for a long time. I haven't used Vista 64 for about 10 days and went in to do some work on it this morning. To my surprise, the video disappeared immediately after the green startup wait indicator. Eventually, after about the usual amount of time and hard disk activity, the startup sound came on but absolutely no video. I restored my full backup of the Vista 64 partition from last Sunday=97 same problem!
I went in on safe mode but it is impossible to change video settings or install new drivers in safe mode so that was a dead end. I tried the repair utility that comes with Vista but it could find no problem with startup. My working hypothesis is that something has gone wrong with the video drivers although that may not be the case. Even if it were, I can think of no way of fixing it short of completely rebuilding the Vista 64 system checked desperately do not want to do

Jun 28, 2008I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and when I stream videos from websites like Gametrailers.com as either a Windows Media or a Quicktime file the video is choppy and has sound issues. If I download the same video there is no choppyness and once the stream is no longer on HTTP and is on CACHE it is fine. I know i have enough bandwidth for the video and under statistics I does not show any errors .I have all the latest drivers and service packs. I have reinstalled Vista as both 32 bit and 64 bit to see if there was some difference. I also have this same issue on my Laptop running Vista.

Configuration of Printer:
Connected via parallel to Vista 32 machine
Printer is configured for sharing and is installed on both machines
test pages print successfully from both machines
Additional notes:
During printer setup on the Vista 32 machine, I attempted to install
additional 64x drivers, but could not locate them, so I skipped this step.
During printer setup on the Vista 64 machine, the shared printers were
identified successfully, and I added the network printer. I was not asked to
install drivers the way I have in the past when adding a local printer.
Printing using the shared printer on the local machine Vista 32 performs
with normal speeds. Printing from the network computer Vista 64 using the
shared printer installed on Vista 32 is extremely slow. Even typing in print
job changes in the print dialog window takes 30 seconds or so for each key
stroke to register a response onscreen.
X64 8GB + Video RAM?
Apr 11, 2008This is my doubt,
I have 8GB RAM installed (max for my MoBo) and 2 Video Card 512MB.
So this will mean that my Vista Home Premium x64 have to deal with 9GB
RAM.
How can I be sure that it takes full advantage of all RAM?
In My Computer > property shows 8196MB RAM, my doubt is if really when
I am in Crossfire mode, my PC is able to use the 1024MB Video Ram to get
the best performance in 3D Game.
If somebody can give me a way to check and even better to allow Vista
to use all 9024MB it will be great.
