User Executed System Shutdown (1115)

Mar 23, 2009

I wonder if anyone could tell me how a user could execute a command to begin a system shutdown (Event ID: 1115). This is the type of shutdown windows executes when it encounters a critical error such as services.exe being killed. I cant find a way to execute it, even executing a shutdown command under the SYSTEM account doesn't seem to work. I need it because once executed it cannot be aborted even by an admin (as far as i can see).

Shutdown Shortcut Behavior When Executed

Aug 18, 2008

I created a desktop (shutdown) shortcut on both my desktop and laptop PC's both running Vista Home Premium.

On my desktop I click the shortcut and get a shutdown will occur in "X" minutes message (I'm paraphrasing) and everyting is shut down in an orderly manner.

On my laptop using a wireless keyboard and mouse (the reason I really wanted the shortcut) I click on the shortcut and get a "open file- security warning" - Do you want to open this file?

I've been checking security settings on both PC's but have been unable to get rid of this Security warning dialog box on my laptop.

Shutdown/startup: Then Monitor Goes Blank And System Reboots

Aug 14, 2008

When I boot up my PC it goes all the way to the loading screen (the progress bar) and then monitor goes blank and system reboots. I choose to start in safe mode (from the selection), it starts all good. Then I restart the PC and it boots well without any problems. However, next time I shut down, I have to go through the whole process again. Sometimes I see "dumping physical memory" with a blue screen, sometimes I don't. I THINK it has something to do with my video drivers, but I updated to the latest catalyst drivers and still same thing.

Shutdown Causes Hardisks To Spin Up Shutdown 4 Times

I have read elsewhere of some users experiencing the problem of hard disks making the infamous clicking noises on shutdown of any version of vista. I don't know if its only SATA HD but thats what I have and I am experiencing the same thing. It has me concerned that the clicking of the HD arms might be unnecessary wear and tear. any fixes for this?

"previous System Shutdown Was Unexpected"

Aug 28, 2009

This dumb, uninformative, repetitive Event ID has been my most persistent, random, & most often logged Event Viewer error message since I clean installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit from a retail box the most part of a year ago. It has also been the primary cause for my biggest disappointment with Vista & strong evidence of Vista's failure as a reliable OS (not to say that this is the only evidence for such failure). My unrelenting search for relief has been just as persistent & has proven totally unsuccessful to date. However, my search has still been a learning experience. What have I learned? The following is not a complete list:

1. Windows users have been experiencing the same frustration (same issue) for several years going back to earlier Windows Op Systems.
2. This event has been reported by Windows users on a variety of platforms, PC brand models, and both Vista 64 & 32 bit versions.
3. No one cause has been identified as the trigger for this event - nor have I found that any effective remedy/work-around has ever been posted either on tech web sites, Microsoft newsgroups, or the Microsoft Knowledge Base................

No User Partitions After System Restore

Mar 4, 2009

I did a system restore last Friday and all went well (I thought) However, when one of my 2 daughters attempted to gain access to her part, she was greeted with a black screen and no program icons. My other daughter attempted to do the same on her account, with the same result. Previous to the system restore, they could both access their partitions easily with everything on display. The laptop has a 250 gig h/d, and they were designated as standard accounts, mine being the admin account. They are particularly keen to retrieve their I-tunes stuff, so any help or advice would be gratefully received. I am trying hard to avoid a reformat.

After Virus, System Restore Causes Corrupt User Profile

May 15, 2010

I believe my computer got infected with a virus. Windows Defender detected "TrojanDwonlaoder:Win32/Bredolab.AA" and "Trojan:Win32/Hiloti.gen!D". It claims to have successfully removed these. I restart my computer. When I log on, I get Data Execution Protection notifications about Rundl32 and the like. I also notice that "flvencoder.exe" is running and consuming 30% CPU. I did install this program (Gmax FLV encoder) and perhaps it contained a virus (though the program worked). I also don't recall that it should have started upon logging on. None of this really matters, I don't think. I did a System Restore to a point before I installed Gmax FLV encoder (3 days prior). The restore completes successfully. Upon logging into my account, I get see the "Preparing Desktop" message and know that this is not good news. My user profile was not loaded. All of the data is there though. What I first tried to do was logging into Safe Mode, and setting the reg. keys such that my old profile is loaded instead of a temporary one...................................

Access User Controls Delete A Folder Not Allowed System Rolled Back

Mar 25, 2008

I am so tired of all of the, what appear to be, bugs with this new system. The irritating pop-ups everytime I want to do something (like access user controls, delete a folder, etc.) that want confirmation. Unfortunately I purchased this comptuer with Vista Home installed. Is there a way to just install XP Home back on this thing? I have tried with the XP Home CD and it appears that it will not allow the system to be rolled back.

User Admin Previous User Missing

Mar 26, 2008

[This is my second post on the same subject. The first thread died] I had this Vista Home Basic machine working okay, but the power went out and then another person who was high used the machine. They named a new user as administrator. I don't know what else they did.

Now I have a new user as administrator and the previous users are gone. I still see evidence of them in the file tree but the old programs are gone and the documents are buried in C > Users > Admin (that was a name of a previous user that I had named when I first got the machine) I've gradually installed some of my old programs and I'm currently
just rebuilding everything, but it would be a lot easier if I could revert to the old user system. The Control Panel > add or remove user accounts is useless. I only have two icons there So is there anyway to return to the original condition? How can I recover the missing users?

Administration: User Name In Task Manager Under User Shows Up As "BOBLAFAYETTE Est"

Feb 6, 2009

Received my computer back yesterday from HP with reinstalled clean version of Vista Home Premium. It came back with a user name of 'test'. I attempted to change the name to my name "Bob Lafayette" and the user name in task manager under user shows up as "BOBLAFAYETTE est". In System Information the user name shows as BOBLAFAYETTE est

In user profiles the administrator shows as Bob Lafayette. The computer name shows as "BobLafayette." Computer description shows as "Bob's Computer." How can I amend the user name in task manager to reflect solely "BobLafayette"? Without the "test"?

Mystery Shutdown

Apr 3, 2009

Yesterday after a week long holiday, I came home and started my computer which ran fine until this afternoon.

I was out and about doing things and I left the computer on and logged online as I usually do.

When I came home, I found it had shut down and restarted and I was at my Windows Logon screen.

I figured we must have had some sort of electrical outage, so I logged in and let my Intel RAID storage manger do it's thing (it has to re-verify and re-match the data on my two RAID 1 drives).

I wandered back in a few minutes later to find the computer had gone into a CheckDisc. Check Disc didn't find any bad things so I let it run through and restarted, now all seems well again.

I am curious as to why it might have shut down in the first place and not quite sure where to look.

Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer says no critical errors, just one error message that says the shut down was unexpected.

X64 Shutdown, Controller

Dec 11, 2007

I recently added a new hard drive to my system to give me a bit more storage room. All drives in the system are SATA, 2x Raptor 36GB, 1 Plextor DVD burner, and the new Samsung 250GB. The Raptors are currently not in a RAID. What occurs during Vista shutdown? It may give me some more insight into my problem.

During shutdown, the new drive gets thrashed for 3-5 minutes before the system drive updates config and shuts down. Could this be some sort of conflict with the controller? Raptors are SATA 150 and the Samsung is 300. Is Vista writing a system restore to that drive at shutdown? (A friend theorized that, and it sounded logical enough)

Lose IP After Shutdown

Jul 29, 2009

Brother purchased new laptop. Vista Home Basic 32 bit SP1. Turned on machine and connected fine via ethernet cable to home network. I logged in remotely and watched and acted when required as both Vista and McAfee downloaded and installed numerous updates. On one occassion when asked to restart now or later after McAfee finished updating, I chose later. I then installed LogMeIn on this computer so that upon reboot I would have more control.

That may or may have nothing to do with issue now but ever since then, when warm or cold re-start of computer is done, computer does not obtain an IP. Have to go to CPanel/Network/Diagnose and choose automatic rediscovery of IP which works just fine.
