Boot And Shutdown

Jun 24, 2008

I am proffesional .NET developer working with C and SQL. Because of new features of the new MS products I was switching to Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit. My Vista runs on: ASUS Striker II Extreme with QuadCore 2.5 GHz. 4 GB Patriot Memory, 2 GeForce Grafikcards with 4 Monitors, 300GB Fujitsu SCSI disk.

I hade always some problems with booting and Shutdown.Somitimes I had to start the pc 4 times until it runs. Also somitimes it was not Shutingdown ... When it was up und running, all was ok, except somitimes Network does not work ... Finaly now, the system was running fine and I plugged in a webcam and it was starting to install forever ... After about 1h, I switched off the pc and now it does not boot any moren ...When I try to boot in SaveMode, it stopps at crcdisk.sys. I cannot even boot from install CD ... What should I do now ? Buy another harddisk and install a fresh copy of Vista ?? Buy another harddisk and go back to Windows XP ?? Or ist there anybody out ther who knows a solution ??? I really need to work with my pc and I would be happy for any comment on this issue !!

Boot And Shutdown Probs

Jun 3, 2010

My PC used to take a few mins to boot and 30 secs to shutdown but now it takes around 4.5mins to boot to the sidebar appearing amidst incredible disk activity (which has always been the case) - if I then click on IE it takes around 80 secs to load as the disk is going bananas for several minutes and the PC isn't really useable for 5 minutes until the disk settles down (which has been getting worse over the last 6 months)
Quite often (40%) boot freeze on MESH splash screen and needs rebootPC - quad Core Mesh PC 2.4GHz - 4GB RAM - VISTA all up to date - 1 x 500GB 1 x 1TB - external - USB ipod/printer/1.5tb backupI've tried disabling obvious candidates in startup/services but to no avail - not a gaming PC .......

Updates After Boot And Shutdown

Nov 28, 2008

Sometime after 24/11/08 I installed about 4 vista updates, after which boot and shutdown times greatly increased. By which I mean, when you get the green sliding bar when booting, pre-update I would get between 6 and 11 bar progressions, after update I got 50 to 51, before completing the boot. I've now turned off updates completely and system restored back pre- 24/11/08, and alls well again. From looking at these forums it seems I am not along with update issues. I'll leave updates turned off I think.

Shutdown Causes Hardisks To Spin Up Shutdown 4 Times

Jun 13, 2007

I have read elsewhere of some users experiencing the problem of hard disks making the infamous clicking noises on shutdown of any version of vista. I don't know if its only SATA HD but thats what I have and I am experiencing the same thing. It has me concerned that the clicking of the HD arms might be unnecessary wear and tear. any fixes for this?

Booting Up: Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media In Selected Boot Device And Press A Key

Jan 1, 2009

I went to turn it on this morning, I just had a black screen showing the following words;

Press F2 to run
Press F11 to boot menu
Auto detecting PRI Master Atapai CDROM.

It then went to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I went into the BIOS to change the boot order and inserted my Vista home premium 32bit. I then got windows is loading in files. After a short while I got the black start up screen with Microsoft Corporation but after a few seconds it just froze. Moments later it went to a blue screen with white writing part of which said the following; A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TI YOUR COMPUTER.

Mystery Shutdown

Apr 3, 2009

Yesterday after a week long holiday, I came home and started my computer which ran fine until this afternoon.

I was out and about doing things and I left the computer on and logged online as I usually do.

When I came home, I found it had shut down and restarted and I was at my Windows Logon screen.

I figured we must have had some sort of electrical outage, so I logged in and let my Intel RAID storage manger do it's thing (it has to re-verify and re-match the data on my two RAID 1 drives).

I wandered back in a few minutes later to find the computer had gone into a CheckDisc. Check Disc didn't find any bad things so I let it run through and restarted, now all seems well again.

I am curious as to why it might have shut down in the first place and not quite sure where to look.

Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer says no critical errors, just one error message that says the shut down was unexpected.

Shutdown With Nvidia 175.19

Jul 12, 2008

Since installing the latest Nvidia Graphics Driver 175.19, I've had a bit of an issue when I go to Restart or Shutdown my PC. After I click-on Restart or Shutdown, the Logon screen appears, then it goes back to the Desktop Screen, then back to the Login screen and Restarts or Shuts Down correctly. I'm not sure whether it may have something to do with the Task Scheduler (and Windows Sounds possibly)

Shutdown Take 60-75 Minutes

Dec 11, 2009

Vista Home Premium Sometimes when I try to shut down the PC - START-SHUTDOWN and either shutdown or restart - the shutdown can take, literally, 60-75 minutes and sometimes longer. Since I usually don't have that long to wait, removing the power cord is an adequate substitute. How can I eliminate these eternal shutdowns?

X64 Shutdown, Controller

Dec 11, 2007

I recently added a new hard drive to my system to give me a bit more storage room. All drives in the system are SATA, 2x Raptor 36GB, 1 Plextor DVD burner, and the new Samsung 250GB. The Raptors are currently not in a RAID. What occurs during Vista shutdown? It may give me some more insight into my problem.

During shutdown, the new drive gets thrashed for 3-5 minutes before the system drive updates config and shuts down. Could this be some sort of conflict with the controller? Raptors are SATA 150 and the Samsung is 300. Is Vista writing a system restore to that drive at shutdown? (A friend theorized that, and it sounded logical enough)

Lose IP After Shutdown

Jul 29, 2009

Brother purchased new laptop. Vista Home Basic 32 bit SP1. Turned on machine and connected fine via ethernet cable to home network. I logged in remotely and watched and acted when required as both Vista and McAfee downloaded and installed numerous updates. On one occassion when asked to restart now or later after McAfee finished updating, I chose later. I then installed LogMeIn on this computer so that upon reboot I would have more control.

That may or may have nothing to do with issue now but ever since then, when warm or cold re-start of computer is done, computer does not obtain an IP. Have to go to CPanel/Network/Diagnose and choose automatic rediscovery of IP which works just fine.

Random Shutdown After MB/CPU/RAM Upgrade On X64

Jan 2, 2008

I'm running it on Chieftec 410W PSU, which according to ASUS PSU calculator is enough. Actually my previous S939 system needed more(400W) power than my new system(350W) according to ASUS PSU calculator, and it ran well. It quite old though. 3 years probably, but it's not making any noise and it isn't running hot. It has a big 12cm fan which is running fine and apparently doing a good job.

After Vista reinstall my system randomly, completely shuts down (like when unplugged from power outlet) 2-5 minutes after booting up. Booting process is actually succesuful. All drivers running. I checked ;..........

Pop Noise On Startup/shutdown

Sep 4, 2008

i've just taken a headfirst dive into vista and as far as i can tell, besides the UAC, im becoming quite fond of it. heres the backstory for my issue. Purchased a HP tx2510us tablet, it came with vista home premium, I had a copy of Vista ultimate off of the computer my parents bought(they "down"graded to xp pro). downloaded all the drivers off the HP website, wiped the HD and installed vista Ultimate x64. Then i reinstalled all the drivers(the x64versions, i made sure of that. Now the issue. Whenever I turn on or off my computer. the speakers pop. This also happens if the speakers are muted. I'm not sure if this is a driver issue, or somthing else. EDIT* The popping noise also happens when the windows bootup sound plays.

When the machine is shutdown from the operating system, it powers all the way down and then it turns right back on...I've checked all of the wake-on settings in the BIOS and Device Manager, checked the powerconfg -devicequery wake_armed from the command line and disabled all of the devices that showed up, clearing all of the entries...I've updated the BIOS and Chipset drivers too. I have the Intel DG33FB Motherboard with Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor installed.

Why Too Many Windows Updates While Shutdown?

Oct 8, 2009

The initial configurations done as per the setup and wizard instructions provided by hp. After some time, suddenly the system performace was too slow and it has given me a huge shock and made me think like i've wasted my money! BUT after installed the windows updates, it's performance increased tremendously. There is always the alert which shows install Windows updates. Even when i tried to shutdown the system, it pops up 'Install Updates and shut down'.

So i've installed the updates almost every day otherwise it will not allow me to perform any operations. Is this expected behaviour? Can't we work without installing any windows updates atleast for a month? I am afraid may be some performance issue on this model! Due to these every day installation of windows updates, its killing my hard drive like anything.. Intially, in C drive, the free space was 243 GB of 260GB, now its reduced to 225GB of 260GB. I am loosing my memory because of this updates.

Sleep Mode Rather Than Shutdown

Feb 26, 2009

My machine is an Evesham 17" Laptop, Intel Dual core, 2GB RAM, Nvidia graphics, wireless conection to internet. Just plain standard really. I have it configured to enter Sleep mode, rather than Shutdown, when I've finished for the day and this has always worked perfectly......until last night. I put it to sleep as usual, turned off external power and toddled off to bed. This morning when I came down I found it up and running with not much power left. I switched mains back on and was presented with a message that "Internet Explorer has stopped working." IE was definitely not running last night. As soon as I closed that box, another one appeared saying that Adobe Flash was ready to install an update - clicking OK enabled the update to be installed. Next Paint Shop Pro decided that it also wanted to install an update, and duly did so. I then shut the machine down completely and went off to work.

Booting the machine this evening was uneventful until I tried to view a video on the BBC website. I was then informed that I didn't have the latest version of Flashplayer and invited to download and install it. It would therefore appear that the previous update had actually reversed Flashplayer. What I hope is that some kind person can tell me is how the machine wakes up from sleep mode all by itself? I've checked BIOS and there is nothing enabled there which would allow an automatic start from sleep. I've also checked my power setting in Control Panel with similar results. Full AV/Trojan scans reveal nothing and the machine is running perfectly. I await the morning with interest.....
