After Virus, System Restore Causes Corrupt User Profile
May 15, 2010
I believe my computer got infected with a virus. Windows Defender detected "TrojanDwonlaoder:Win32/Bredolab.AA" and "Trojan:Win32/Hiloti.gen!D". It claims to have successfully removed these. I restart my computer. When I log on, I get Data Execution Protection notifications about Rundl32 and the like. I also notice that "flvencoder.exe" is running and consuming 30% CPU. I did install this program (Gmax FLV encoder) and perhaps it contained a virus (though the program worked). I also don't recall that it should have started upon logging on. None of this really matters, I don't think. I did a System Restore to a point before I installed Gmax FLV encoder (3 days prior). The restore completes successfully. Upon logging into my account, I get see the "Preparing Desktop" message and know that this is not good news. My user profile was not loaded. All of the data is there though. What I first tried to do was logging into Safe Mode, and setting the reg. keys such that my old profile is loaded instead of a temporary one...................................

My laptop suddenly shut itself down for no reason. When I restarted it, I was given a fresh new desktop with new music folders, documents folder etc.etc. I have since found out I was given a TEMP account - which is weird because I still logged into MY personal profile with no problems (and no warning messages about files being lost when I shut the computer down). Anyway, since I didn't get any message, I worked on my website pages all day and saved the work into a folder on the "new" desktop.
HOWEVER... after restarting the computer the next day and logging into my profile, I was presented with my original desktop - - - BUT NO FOLDER WITH ALL MY WORK! When I searched for the specific files and folder on my computer - I found the files, but I could not open them because "C:UsersTEMP(folder name)" did not exist! Is there a way.. ANY WAY of getting those files back?

My wife was on the internet and suddenly System Pro popped up and started scanning warning my wife of a virus attack on her computer and wanted her to buy the AV Pgm for $49.95. She just clicked all the exits and got off of the internet and now she is locked out of her computer. We can't get system restore to work, Can't get safe mode to work, She has AVG 8 installed but cannot start it. Tried SFC /scannow but was denied access. Tried putting the Windows XP disk in to do a repair and was unable to get it to start. I think the only thing to do is reformat the HD and start over but her PC ignores the A drive and the dvd drives. I cannot get into it in order to re format it.

I've got Win Vista Home Premium SP1. Up until recently, when i chose System Restore it came up with a calander-like window and then i was able to choose the day i wanted my sistem restored to. Then a few days ago I experienced a crash, and it took my pc a while to check my disk (the only one, since it's a laptop).
That's the checking:
Then i manged to enter Vista again, and i thought i'd just restore again, hoping nothing was wrong. And when i clicked System Restore it took absolutely AGES to open (the rest of the stuff worked/s well...) and when it eventually opened i got that:
And now, if i choose "Choose a different restore point", i get this:
Where has the calender gone? Where are my previous restore points??? What's wrong?
Then, yesterday i was checking bbc's webpage and i came across this article: Click

My grandson allowed the vista security virus on their PC I am trying to fix it. It blocked everything I did between using my Daughters laptop and gathering info from the internet I did get the PC Doctor downloaded (took forever) and installed on the infected PC then ran a scan only to find out that I had to purchase the tool to remove it. I did and the Pc worked fine or so I thought.
DD looked up lowes last night and now today it is again posessed it will not let me run system restore everytime I look up something on the internet it redirects me to stupid pages that have nothing to do with what i key in. so I am trying system restore and it wont open it tells me it is already running. This is a vista home basics I have no idea if it is 32 or 64.

I did a system restore last Friday and all went well (I thought) However, when one of my 2 daughters attempted to gain access to her part, she was greeted with a black screen and no program icons. My other daughter attempted to do the same on her account, with the same result. Previous to the system restore, they could both access their partitions easily with everything on display. The laptop has a 250 gig h/d, and they were designated as standard accounts, mine being the admin account. They are particularly keen to retrieve their I-tunes stuff, so any help or advice would be gratefully received. I am trying hard to avoid a reformat.

I am running a hp pavilion dv9730 with vista home prem. 32. I need to restore my system but the restore program quits do to a virus in the restore files. As it is restoring Norton sees the virus and removes it from my system but Norton can not see the virus inside the restore files. Right now my system is fine (virus wise) but I need to restore from an earlier restore point because I deleted some files and now my cd/dvd drive is not recognized. But like I said, I can not restore do to the fact that I have a virus buried inside my restore files. I could care less about the virus in the restore files, my main goal is to get my cd/dvd drive working again so I can install my business software.

I have recently been having many with my computer. Firstly, i was having problems with the SID where it says user profile cannot be loaded. After many hours i managed to fix this problem but i've recently got a new problem.
I Installed a new wireless network card into a pci slot and started the computer and it worked. As i hadn't had my computer working for a while i decided to update the video card driver and decided to check for updates for windows. I installed both the video card driver and windows updates and rebooted. But when the computer tried to start up all the fans started and the power light goes on but nothing happens.
I don't know whether the problem is with the new hardware, the driver update or the windows updates. The computer won't start at all and i have some important work on it.

I recently partitioned my 500 GB hard disk on my Vista computer into multiple drives in order to keep data files and picture files separate. In doing that I succeeded in
screwing up the folder line-up in my user folder. In spite of many tries I haven't been able to "unscrew" it. There are two main problems:
1. There are now two folders called Pictures (E referring to ther new partition
Both of these folders contain the same subfolders and files. No matter what I try, I cannot delete one of these listings.
2. There is an additional folder called Pictures.
However this folder contains all the music folders and files. When I try to rename this folder to Music, I get the error message:"This action can't be completed because the
folder is open in another program", even though no other programs are running.

The problem started when I decided to do a reboot after installing some programs. Since then whenever I log on it takes ages displaying the "welcome" message, then comes up with the dreaded "preparing your desktop" message. It then loads a "temporary user profile" and says that any changes made while logged on to this profile will be lost afterwards, and to check the event log or contact the network administrator.
I've read heaps about this problem happening to people with vista and windows 7 (I have vista home ed). It's supposed to be due to a corrupted profile, and so if you delete the profile in the "regedit" thing it's supposed to fix itself. Others have also suggested creating a new account and transferring everything. I have tried countless restarts, restoring the system, deleting the user profile (all my stuff is now fully backed up) and creating new accounts. None of it works - a temporary profile still loads from a newly created account, the same happens even in safe mode and from the built in administrator account. I'm at a total loss as to what to do!! I use my computer every day for work so you can hopefully imagine how frustrating this is!

I have added my first Windows Vista Business to our Windows 2003 network domain. User home directories are redirected to a network share via a logon script (batch file). Note: as far as I know no group policy controlling the redirection, no roaming is being used.
Issue: Whenever the user logs off the profile doesn???t get saved and the next logon appears like it???s the first time logging in to the account. For example: the folders created are userName (for the first login) the next login creates userName.001 (for the next login) and so on. how to resolve the issue? Is it something to do with the new account structure and I have to modify the logon script?

my husband and I each have a user profile on our computer. Lately whenever he tries to access his profile to get to his files, favorites, etc. he gets this message: "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." So he is unable to get to any of his files or music in the Media Center. He uses my user profile to get to his Yahoo browser to get his email but cannot get any of his bookmarks which is becoming very irritating to him. I can't blame him. We have a new computer with Windows Vista.

There is only one account and it is my own. However on more than one occasion and, as a matter of fact, just now; when I log on there are two of me at the logon screen. Just two identical logons. Is this another profile the is a shadow or double of my login that runs at the same time. I can choose either to logon on to and they both are identical with identical passwords, etc.. Once I log on I can't switch user and see the profile again. What is this?

I have had a Lenovo 3000 n100 laptop with what I think is Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (does that sound right?) for a few years. Within the first year I had it my hard drive crashed, I managed to save it but I lost all my files. Today I tried to log onto my administrator account for the first time in a few weeks and I recieved the error "User Profile Service Failed the Logon". I searched for a solution and this is what I found..
Quote: 1. I closed down.
2. Turned computer on and immediately pressed F8 repeatedly until I got "Advanced Boot Options".
3. used the down arrow to select "Safe Mode" and pressed enter.
4. computer then opened eventually in the funny look of safe mode, with
a "Help" window.
5. In the help window there is an underlined "What is System Restore?" Clicking on that gave me the answer and "Click to open System Restore"
6. I clicked on that and a new window came up recommending restoring to a previous state before windows update which I had done before the fault occurred.............

My only option is to click on an OK key. The computer then gives one logon key and when I click on it give me the USER PROFILE CANNOT BE LOADED message again. Only options given with logon key are improve use of screen and restart, sleep, hibernate, and shut down key. It will not let me start in safe mode and will not give me access to the START button. I've tried every option available to me; even tried ctrl/alt/delete with no success. PLEASE HELP!

Dell Inspiron, Microsoft Vista Home Premium, 1918 MB RAM, 2.8 Windows Experience Index, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-55, 1.80 GHz, updates current as of March 24, 2008. Attempting to log on to my main user account produces the following screen. The User Profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded. OK Microsoft Vista Home Premium.
I cannot get into the account, even after logging in as Administrator and resetting the password for the account. Anyone know what has happened and how to fix it? I have copied all the user documents including AppData to another account, but it is still a pain and I would like to know how to prevent it.

Does anyone know of a way to remove the virtual folder links that appear under your username in Explorer? I mean the folders like "Videos", "Searches" and "Links". I know some of these folders serve an important purpose(like "Links", "Favorites", "Contacts", "Desktop"), but I'd like to move them somewhere
else and not have them clutter up the tree view when I'm trying to navigate around my files in Explorer.
I can move them to another physical location (using the Location tab on the properties window), but when I go back to Explorer, links to them appear as sub-folders as though they were still in my userprofile directory. This really winds me up -- I think I should be allowed to organise my own file system, without Microsoft deciding what folders I need!

So following the advice of both Windows Vista's error message and some documentation online I did a Repair from the Vista DVD.
After the repair the computer booted but now my profile is severly messed up. I already had to reinstall my antivirus, firefox reverted back to a previous version and lost my profile. and now the buttons that link to my profiles folders (i.e. Documents, Pictures, etc...) on the start menu won't work at all............

There has only ever been 1 account, and at bootup the password for this account was asked for. We entered the KNOWN password (it's never been changed from new, approx 11 months) and we got ;- "User profile service failed the logon, user profile cannot be loaded", which slowed us down a bit :-) We took an option to "reset password - put disc in drive with password on" (or something similar), but he has never created such a disc. To repeat - the password entered 'was' correct.......
