View 4 RepliesI have Vista x64 and I have read threads on this for weeks and can't fix it. I have file sharing/network discovery on, private network, password protection disabled, my shares set to everyone and everyone is on the same workgroup. My problem is that the x64 Vista computer will not see any of the XP (x86 or x64) computers and they can't see it from the Network Neighbourhood. However, if I type the IP address of the XP computers I
can access them. On the XP computers if I type the IP address I get an error that it isn't accessable and I might not have permission. However, if I type \192.168.0.100share or any of the other share names I access it just fine. pinging works too by IP but not by name. If I boot into the x86 install of have of Vista I can access XP computers from Vista and the Vista from XP by name and everything without typing any user names. The only differince between the two aside from x64 and x86 is that x86 isn't patched past SP1 as I don't use it often. Lastly after installing that XP patch I can see the x86 XP computers by name from the network map feature on Vista, still can't access them by name though...
currently i have been trying to backup my computer using complete backup on my windows vista ultimate but every time i try when i click the button it says

I installed Vista Ultimate on a machine that came with Home Edition Premium. I thought that the system would automatically join the network domain, but nothing happened. I found an option called Network Discovery, click the On option and the Apply button, but it change didn't take affect.

installed Vista SP1 and now there's no network icon in system tray but actual internet access works fine. I go to taskbar properties and select always show network icon and the icon reappears but I get the two computers with a red X. I mouse over it and get a window "connection status unknown : the service to detect this status is turned off." So I click the message and I get these options: "More Information. Reviewing Services on my Vista Ultimate 64-bit machine I noticed that the DNS Client is disabled? I have a wireless router configured to the laptop and to the printer and have for some times been experiencing disconnection problems to the laptop and loosing the printer connectivity completely until I unplug the router, wait, and plug it back in--which will restore connectivity until the next time.
Shouldn't the DNS Client be enabled? Also noticed in Services I found HP Network Devices Support is set to Automatic (Delayed Start). Could this be what is causing the printer (C7280 All-in-One) to write so many (hundreds in days) .log entries in
WindowsTemp?
I can not longer share files ie video, music, pics, with any other pc in my house including my ps3. This just started 2 days ago. Everytime I started WMP11 I get the file sharing box telling me to check my sharing settings; I check them and and everything seems fine. I also have turned off both of my firewalls from Live Onecare and windows firewall. I currently am running Vista Ultimate 32bit with intel Q6600(quad core 2.40) 2gb ram, geforce 8600gts 512mb. I also recently cleaned up my desktop and don't know if I got rid of something I shouldn't have. WMP11 works fine. I also get this every 3 minutes or so popping up. I just bought a Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 to use with my Asus N70S Laptop which is on Vista 64-bit SP2, with integrated bluetooth. For some reason none of my bluetooth devices (my cell phone, and the mouse) will be discovered. I've set the bluetooth settings to "Discoverable" etc., and the correct services are enabled. Nothing comes up on the "Add a wireless device" page. I don't know what I have to do to get my devices to be discovered. I just saw that on my Device Manager, Bluetooth Remote Control, Bluetooth Hands-free Audio, Bluetooth Hands-free Audio., and Bluetooth Stereo Audio all have the yellow exclamation point on their icons.

This pop up appears relentlessly - about once every 30 seconds, and i can see the system performance hitting 100% CPU for 5 seconds or so each time it does.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to run programs, delete desktop shortcuts, move things in and out of the programs file folder, read compiled HTML help files and lots of other things all without having to deal with warning boxes at every turn. And even if I do deal with them and change settings, like taking the check out of "Always do this for the type of file" or unblocked compiled HTML files, Vista just undoes everything. I just reformatted my entire machine thinking there was something wrong because of all the program compiled help files I couldn't open. I tried Tweak UAC, but it only handles a small amount of this stuff.
I need to stop all this stuff. I'm open to anything - deleting system files, dlls, registry tweaks, anything.
This is my first post in this forum. I use Vista Home premium. my DEP setting is Turn on for all programs except those I select. My querry is-Whenever I go to the folder of a program in "Program Files" folder, I notice that it has numerous folders, and each of these folders have numerous .exe files. Moreover, it is not possible to "Batch Select" all the .exe files in a folder, the procedure has to be repeated for each .exe file individually. This is cumbersome. Is there a better
way of doing it?
Everytime I turn my laptop on or log back into it the windows firewall is turned off... Is there anyway to keep it on so I don't have to manually turn it on all the time?

The User Profile Service service failed the login.
User profile cannot be loaded.
Just before the problem happened I was working to remove the Anti Virus Live virus from my laptop via the techsupportforum.com forum.
Two things I did within the hour of the problem happening are:
1. I ran the malware removal program OTL

2. I cleared and set system restore's cash-

Further details-I can and am able to login to Safe Mode I do not have a program called System Restore in the System Tools folder In Safe Mode I was able to change my password, but in normal mode I get the same error message I did windows updates and then tried to remove some of those updates, with only a few files that wouldn't allow me to delete them. Thank you for visiting my thread. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix my problem it would be great to hear about them.
Also my Windows Search service does not start. When I try to start it, I get these errors in the event log:
1. "The Windows Search Service cannot open the Jet property store.
The content index server cannot update or access information because of a database error. Stop and restart the search service. If the problem persists, reset and recrawl the content index. In some cases it may be necessary to delete and recreate the content index. (0x8004117f)"
2. "The Windows Search Service has failed to created the new system catalog. Internal error <4,0x8004117f>."
I'm totally lost as how to solve this problem. I spent hours on the web trying to find a solution, with no luck sofar. Anyone here who has a clue how to solve this one?
I'm hoping this can be an intelligent debate about Microsoft's marketing, without it being overrun by the usual bunch of offensive kids and anti-Vista trolls. One of the things Microsoft wants to do is stop selling new XP licenses and sell Vista licenses instead. I believe the current target for stopping sales of XP is next month. I vaguely understand they have support cut-off dates for XP of 2009 and 2014 (I may be wrong about those - but that isn't central to my argument). The thing is, why is MS to keen to stop selling XP? I've heard a couple of reasons:
1 They have to get a return on their investment in the development of Vista. Of course, this can't be right - a sale is a sale, and if they priced XP and Vista the same, then they get the money whichever the customer chooses.
2 They don't want the burden of supporting XP - with its security shortcomings - for longer than necessary. Also, they would be supporting two operating systems instead of one.......
i have this USB Server made by Elite Silicon its basically a 4 Port USB Server. I can install it and use it fine on XP but on my vista machine it detects it and installs the software and can see the devices in the software supplied how ever i cannot connect to it and it brings up the following error:
USB Server Bus does not exist. Please uninstall the USBServer and reinstall it. I have done this but its made no difference. I dont know if it just doesnt like vista or doesnt like it as im using a 64bit version. Does anyone know where i might be able to find some better drivers for this. As vista doesnt seem to be able to find any. All the files on the cd that come with it are in one MSI which i cant extract them out of either.
I was wondering if a large (filling the desktop) analogue clock that actually works is available for a Vista Wallpaper.
Am I right in assuming that MDLINK.exe does not exist on x64 bit Vista?? I have 32bit running on my Notebook and mdlink.exe.

I got a message saying something like windows needs to be repaired or something so I clicked the button to repair it. I go downstairs and watch a movie, and then I come back up and I see a black screen with the mouse pointer doing the loading animation. So I leave it for about 2 more hours and still nothing happens, I turn it off manually.
Now I have to create a new user account, but I cant because it shuts off after about 1 or 2 minutes of running. I finally got that done and when I click on my user account to start up it shuts off after about 30 seconds on the desktop. The only way it will run is if it is in safe mode. I am even on it now writing this message. It runs great in safe mode... what do I do? I don't have a Vista disk anymore...
I'm running Vista on my new laptop and have had a couple problems with my firewall turning off by itself. I do have McAfee on it that also keeps saying that there is an error with security and that it has stopped running. It does this everytime I turn it on and go online. I do have an additional anti-virus program called Threatfire which is another free downloadable program that was suggested by a couple of local computer techs. Whenever I run a virus scan everything comes up clean with the exception of Threatfire alerting me several times of potential malware that I've quarantined. I noticed on a previous question that a anti-virus program called "AVG" is mentioned and another download through Kaspersky.com. Has anyone else even heard of ThreatFire and is it comparable to these other free antivirus programs?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Logitech Optical Laser USB Mouse has just recently begun turning on and off whenever it feels like it. I have used the mouse for years and all seemed good. I got a new laptop 5 months ago with Vista Ultimate 32 bit and the mouse worked fine, but a few days ago my laptop froze up and I was forced to hold down the power button to restart it. When it rebooted the mouse will work for a while then turn off for 3-5 seconds and then work again. Does this a few times every minute. I have 6 USB ports and tried the mouse in all of them but has the same problem. Tried the mouse on another computer and it works fine. Device manager says device is working properly and all latest drivers are alredy installed.
