I'm hoping this can be an intelligent debate about Microsoft's marketing, without it being overrun by the usual bunch of offensive kids and anti-Vista trolls. One of the things Microsoft wants to do is stop selling new XP licenses and sell Vista licenses instead. I believe the current target for stopping sales of XP is next month. I vaguely understand they have support cut-off dates for XP of 2009 and 2014 (I may be wrong about those - but that isn't central to my argument). The thing is, why is MS to keen to stop selling XP? I've heard a couple of reasons:
1 They have to get a return on their investment in the development of Vista. Of course, this can't be right - a sale is a sale, and if they priced XP and Vista the same, then they get the money whichever the customer chooses.
2 They don't want the burden of supporting XP - with its security shortcomings - for longer than necessary. Also, they would be supporting two operating systems instead of one.......
i have this USB Server made by Elite Silicon its basically a 4 Port USB Server. I can install it and use it fine on XP but on my vista machine it detects it and installs the software and can see the devices in the software supplied how ever i cannot connect to it and it brings up the following error:
USB Server Bus does not exist. Please uninstall the USBServer and reinstall it. I have done this but its made no difference. I dont know if it just doesnt like vista or doesnt like it as im using a 64bit version. Does anyone know where i might be able to find some better drivers for this. As vista doesnt seem to be able to find any. All the files on the cd that come with it are in one MSI which i cant extract them out of either.
Its not urgent, i just wanted to fiddle around with some settings but when i look for the Local Security Policy it is not in administrative tools and when i try to run secpol.msc it says windows cannot find it* there is however a file in C:WindowsSystem32 that is called SecEdit.exe but that just brings up a cmd window for a fraction of a second *i used Local Security Policy Editor - Open to try and locate it initially
I tried to transfer a spread sheet from my old Dell with Xp tomy new Dell with Vista(microsoft works). When I try to open up the spreadsheet it says that path does not exist(tries to open inworks 6.0 xlr. Could it be that I cannot transfer to Vista? Or is there something that I am doing wrong?

when i click on a file to delete it, it comes up with this ---> "The... folder does not exist. The file may have been moved or deleted." I think I have deleted these files a while ago but when i search for them they show up as 0 bytes. I tried - creating a new folder with the same name and putting those files in and then deleting them, but doesn't work. I tried Hijack this and delete on reboot, can't open as file does not exist for deletion. don't post solutions that are stupid please such as: have you tried right click and delete
I've had my Vista-based laptop four months now, and finally getting enough email and files that searches are becoming a problem...My indexing doesn't exist somehow. Does anyone know how to turn it on? I've gone into the Indexing Options in the control panel - everything is greyed out except the CLOSE button. No files are listed, and I cannot click on MODIFY or ADVANCED.
When I'm in MS Outlook and Click on "Indexing Status", I get a pop up error message saying " Cannot find this file. Verify the path and file name are correct. I have several PST files that I use for work and inevitably my searches will exclude half of my emails. Lately I've had to troll file by file through my emails.. not pretty. I've been unable to find anything in online Help relating to this situation. Has anyone seen it before and if so, what am I missing; what do I need to do?
I use Outlook, (not Outlook Express) and am gearing up to send a work-related HTML newsletter from my personal PC. It looks like I need to do this through Windows Mail. My question: after I configure the ingoing and outgoing mail servers for Windows Mail, will this disable my Outlook functionability? In other words, I'd like to know before I go any further whether or not I can use both Windows Mail and Outlook on my PC (using Vista, Home Premium). I want to keep all my personal emailing intact in Outlook, and only use Windows Mail to send the work-related newsletter.

I need wipe off entire C drive and perform a clean install Vista over current installed Vista. Here is the steps I went through and had problem finally:
1. I boot up with Vista Home Edition DVD;
2. Get on "Install Now" window, and click the "Install Now" get into next step;
3. The update option is disabled (which is good because I need clean install), I click the advanced option, the next window only show couple partitions without showing C drive!
4. After all the tries to load drive, refresh drive, etc. The C drive never show up!!
How can I get clean re-install over exist vista system?

When i try and change the name of any folder, new or old, i get an error message that says "the file or folder does not exist" . i have tried every registry fix, download, settings change that i can find, and nothing helps. i have tried the fix on the microsoft site as well, but to no avail. if there is any ideas out there as to why the fixes that seem to be working for other people aren't working for me, they would be much appreciated. i am running vista business x 32 on a lenovo laptop. the operating system came preinstalled. i cannot recall any particular event that may have caused this...
All my Windows Vista Business and Vista ultimate laptops cannot save files using Office 2007 to the redirected folder on the Network. I am running native Windows 2003 Active Directory. All my XP laptops work fine. Additionally, I can create and edit txt and rtf files in wordpad. I can navigate to the Docments directory and open Word or Excel files, but I cannot save to the redirected folder. I can save to the desktop and then copy them to the redirected folder.
