View 5 RepliesThe system is a HP with AMD quad proc, COTS from BestBuy. Came with Vista Premium and is new, runs Vista OK after I turned off the power conservation sleep mode on the system. Turns out sleep/wake on Vista isn't always that reliable and messes up with Wireless LAN drivers and the TV PVR card. But setting the CPU to never sleep fixed all that.
I added a second disk, using a newer SATA disk, unpluging the primary existing disk as to preserve it. Using the recovery media I made earlier, I recovered the Vista OEM image to the new disk. Always like to know if those OEM recovery things really work. And I will say this, it is better than other vendors as it properly restores the recovery partion too.
Next to upgrade the system to Win 7 picking a clean install. I like clean installs as it doesn't carry the garbage forward including possible old driver issues. And it should give the OS a fair chance to run. Then installed drivers for the stuff Win 7 didn't recognize. Really it was just the keyboard and the PVR. Let the system settle in as Win 7/Vista have a propensity to do stuff in the background, waited until that seem to subside............
let me pick everyone's brain here. Can you guys tell me what the best wireless network card is vista 64 compatible? I play a lot of FPS'es online and want to try to find the best one for me. I just moved and right now I am running a 50ft wire from the living to the second room of the house (so I'm basically 40ft away). Also, how bad will my lag be for games like COD5 with a wireless card? I've only ever hardwired my rig to the router and never gone wireless before. So I'm leary of this move in fear of completely destroying my online playing.
View 7 Replies View Relatedis anyone able to name a wireless network card (preferably d-link, but others welcome) that I will be able to:
1) find in a store
2) find the vista x64 drivers on the companies website
3) 100% guaranteed to work with drivers in x64 VISTA
It seems that there are so many out there and no one can 100% say if any work.
I bought a computer from Velocity Micro. It has a Geforce 9500GT graphics card, a 500gb Hitachi hardrive, and 2 gig memory. It runs about 2.4 ghz. However, I have been having major issues with this computer. I get constant bsods. So far I have reinstalled the driver, replaced a bad memory stick with a replacement, and updated everything I basically have on my computer, including the mouse. However, I have done many tests which revealed that there is nothing wrong with the hardware. There was a problem with my belkin wireless card so i replaced it with a Ralink wireless LAN card. However, i am still getting bsods and the techs at velocity say that there might be a issue with this card too. Now i am just speculating but its too weird to have 2 internet cards which malfunction, one of them which is only a few months old. Can someone just tell me if it were the two so called "malfunctioning" cards or it might be something else.
View 4 Replies View Relatedshortly after i installed SP 1 for vista business my wireless card started to disable itself and stop all traffic. the only way i could get my network back was to reboot the laptop. i have looked in the network connections folder and saw the card was listed as disabled, after trying to enable it it still said it was disabled even tho the enabling... window poped up. i have tried to reinstall drivers, upgrade drivers, release and renew (only to be told it is disabled), run the diagnositcs and checked my router. my router was not causing the problems as others in my house were still connected.

View 4 Replies View Relatedsince building a new rig last christmas ive had endless problems with wireless networking.
specs:
asus p5q-se
intel e8400
4gb corsair dominator ram
palit hd4870 1gb
seagate sata II 500gb
corsair tx series 650w
vista ultimate 64 bit
wireless cards: d-link g510 rev C and Asus wl-138g v2
With the g510 i can get a connection to the internet but im getting only 1mbps despite 22mb internet, browsing and downloads are painfully slow.
With the wl-138g i can only get a local connection or connection with limited access.
Ive tried everything i can think of:
Wipe, reinstall and try new drivers,
tried all pc slots
removed second stick of ram
updated bios, cleared cmos
reinstalled vista
I've even installed xp on a spare hard drive and i get the exact same problems.
After all this, i thought i must have a faulty mobo so i returned it to the reseller, they told me they have "confirmed the fault" and sent me a new one.
Yesterday i put my pc back together without any cards, installed the asus drivers and put the card in, connected fine and got good speeds on the internet. I rejoiced and celebrated, thinking it was all over.
Then, this morning i booted up and i got no connection at all, after loads of tinkering im back to square one and both cards are operating like they did before the motherboard replacement.
I can't get online to update any of my drivers.. cuz my wireless card doesn't work. I even tried the disk, it only has x86 on it. so I ran a hardwire, can't usually, it's on the floor. so I used it and downloaded some things 'm having NO luck with it. It's a Airlink Mimo XR 802.11G PCI Adapter mdel AWLH5026.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an HP dv9208nr laptop which has worked perfectly for me until recently. A few days ago after closing the computer and opening it back up i noticed that the wireless wasn't working. Obviously i checked the switch and the switch was on but the LED was orange indicating that wireless connectivity was turned off. I tried restarting and no luck; after a few other simple fixes didn't work; i went to the device manager and noticed that the wireless card wasn't in the list as it should have been. I tried updating the drivers; nothing. HP techs sent me a link to a service manual and instructed me to reseat the card manually, reset the BIOS, and reinstall the drivers. It didn't work. the next day the computer had found the card as new hardware and installed it. it worked fine for a day; then the same thing happened again.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have some Dell laptops (d830, d620, d630) that has problems with the wireless networkcard (Intel Wireless 4965 AGN). Very often it stops to function after the computer has been to sleep. The wireless icon still apears in the bottom right corner with a red cross over it. When you click it it says that it's connected with limited access. The wireless card will not apear when you run ipconfig If you disconnect it will not connect successfully again It seems like it manages to find all availble networks, but you can not connect successfully to any of them.
I have tried to install this fix reagardless that I already have SP1, but this won't install. Probley because it has already been applied. Also tried the Regedit workaround mentioned in the KB. I have set the power option to high preformance, but it still happends when the computer is manual set to sleep.
ever since planning on a new pc build i knew at some point that id want to install vista on it. Ive planned to get vista 64 seeing as i have a machine capable of running a 64 bit o/s with ease (when i buy my extra 2gb of ram along with my copy of vista) I have been doing my research on which of my games ill still be able to play & tbh the only ones that im remotely worried about are older than red orchestra so no problems there.
My only real concern is the drivers for my belkin wireless card (f5d7001uk) which doesnt have any vista 32 drivers! But ive heard a rumour that vista automatically installs the drivers itself?? Im also worried that some of the useful little apps i have installed wont install such as winrar, wavepad, deepburner pro 1.8 & punkbuster
I'm hoping this can be an intelligent debate about Microsoft's marketing, without it being overrun by the usual bunch of offensive kids and anti-Vista trolls. One of the things Microsoft wants to do is stop selling new XP licenses and sell Vista licenses instead. I believe the current target for stopping sales of XP is next month. I vaguely understand they have support cut-off dates for XP of 2009 and 2014 (I may be wrong about those - but that isn't central to my argument). The thing is, why is MS to keen to stop selling XP? I've heard a couple of reasons:
1 They have to get a return on their investment in the development of Vista. Of course, this can't be right - a sale is a sale, and if they priced XP and Vista the same, then they get the money whichever the customer chooses.
2 They don't want the burden of supporting XP - with its security shortcomings - for longer than necessary. Also, they would be supporting two operating systems instead of one.......
i have this USB Server made by Elite Silicon its basically a 4 Port USB Server. I can install it and use it fine on XP but on my vista machine it detects it and installs the software and can see the devices in the software supplied how ever i cannot connect to it and it brings up the following error:
USB Server Bus does not exist. Please uninstall the USBServer and reinstall it. I have done this but its made no difference. I dont know if it just doesnt like vista or doesnt like it as im using a 64bit version. Does anyone know where i might be able to find some better drivers for this. As vista doesnt seem to be able to find any. All the files on the cd that come with it are in one MSI which i cant extract them out of either.
I was wondering if a large (filling the desktop) analogue clock that actually works is available for a Vista Wallpaper.

My question: after I configure the ingoing and outgoing mail servers for Windows Mail, will this disable my Outlook functionability? I want to keep all my personal emailing intact in Outlook, and only use Windows Mail to send the work-related newsletter.
