Anytime Upgrade To Ultimate Can I Choose Between The 32 And 64 Bit Vista Ultimate

Mar 25, 2008

I Have Windows Vista OEM 32 bit that came on my computer. I noticed that the full retail version of ultimate includes the 32 and 64 bit install. With the anytime upgrade to ultimate can I choose between the 32 and 64 bit vista ultimate? I do realize that I would have to do a clean install of the 64 bit OS. I would like to try the 64 bit version but would also like to be able revert back to the 32 bit if the 64 bit doesn't work out. If I can't then the 32 bit version it is as I need to join a domain.........

Installing Ultimate 64bit With Ultimate Upgrade Key

Jul 7, 2008

I want to reformat my computer and install Vista Ultimate 64-bit as my operating system. I'd rather not spend a couple hundred dollars to do this when I already own Vista Ultimate 32-bit. My computer came with Home Premium and I purchased a Vista Ultimate Upgrade CD (32 bit). Now what I want to know is if I buy the $30 non liscensed Vista Ultimate (64 bit) CD, can I use my Ultimate (32 bit) Activation key to activate it? This would save me around $150. I talked to the Microsoft guys via chat but we just kept going around and around and they never really answered whether or not the Ultimate 64 bit would accept my Ultimate 32 bit upgrade key.

Need Upgrade VGA Card?

Dec 4, 2008

I have recently upgraded from XP SP2 to VISTA 32. Both Vista DVD Maker and AERO are not funtional and Vista tells me its due to using a NVIDIA Geforce4 MX4000 graphics card, so I need to replace it...Not knowing too much about this sort of stuff, I have found a AGP FX5500 in a local store and I wonder if it would be OK ? Or should I go for something with a little more 'grunt'? The PC is used mainly for photo editing and burning video to DVD, very little gaming, attached are my specs.

Win 7: Wireless LAN Drivers And The TV PVR Card

Nov 14, 2009

The system is a HP with AMD quad proc, COTS from BestBuy. Came with Vista Premium and is new, runs Vista OK after I turned off the power conservation sleep mode on the system. Turns out sleep/wake on Vista isn't always that reliable and messes up with Wireless LAN drivers and the TV PVR card. But setting the CPU to never sleep fixed all that.

I added a second disk, using a newer SATA disk, unpluging the primary existing disk as to preserve it. Using the recovery media I made earlier, I recovered the Vista OEM image to the new disk. Always like to know if those OEM recovery things really work. And I will say this, it is better than other vendors as it properly restores the recovery partion too.

Next to upgrade the system to Win 7 picking a clean install. I like clean installs as it doesn't carry the garbage forward including possible old driver issues. And it should give the OS a fair chance to run. Then installed drivers for the stuff Win 7 didn't recognize. Really it was just the keyboard and the PVR. Let the system settle in as Win 7/Vista have a propensity to do stuff in the background, waited until that seem to subside............

Best Wireless PCI Network Card?

Mar 29, 2009

let me pick everyone's brain here. Can you guys tell me what the best wireless network card is vista 64 compatible? I play a lot of FPS'es online and want to try to find the best one for me. I just moved and right now I am running a 50ft wire from the living to the second room of the house (so I'm basically 40ft away). Also, how bad will my lag be for games like COD5 with a wireless card? I've only ever hardwired my rig to the router and never gone wireless before. So I'm leary of this move in fear of completely destroying my online playing.

Wireless Card That 100% Works

1) find in a store
2) find the vista x64 drivers on the companies website
3) 100% guaranteed to work with drivers in x64 VISTA
It seems that there are so many out there and no one can 100% say if any work.

Belkin Wireless Card

Feb 26, 2009

I bought a computer from Velocity Micro. It has a Geforce 9500GT graphics card, a 500gb Hitachi hardrive, and 2 gig memory. It runs about 2.4 ghz. However, I have been having major issues with this computer. I get constant bsods. So far I have reinstalled the driver, replaced a bad memory stick with a replacement, and updated everything I basically have on my computer, including the mouse. However, I have done many tests which revealed that there is nothing wrong with the hardware. There was a problem with my belkin wireless card so i replaced it with a Ralink wireless LAN card. However, i am still getting bsods and the techs at velocity say that there might be a issue with this card too. Now i am just speculating but its too weird to have 2 internet cards which malfunction, one of them which is only a few months old. Can someone just tell me if it were the two so called "malfunctioning" cards or it might be something else.

Wireless Network Card(s) - Epic Fail

May 20, 2009

since building a new rig last christmas ive had endless problems with wireless networking.

specs:

asus p5q-se
intel e8400
4gb corsair dominator ram
palit hd4870 1gb
seagate sata II 500gb
corsair tx series 650w
vista ultimate 64 bit

wireless cards: d-link g510 rev C and Asus wl-138g v2

With the g510 i can get a connection to the internet but im getting only 1mbps despite 22mb internet, browsing and downloads are painfully slow.

With the wl-138g i can only get a local connection or connection with limited access.

Ive tried everything i can think of:

Wipe, reinstall and try new drivers,
tried all pc slots
removed second stick of ram
updated bios, cleared cmos
reinstalled vista

I've even installed xp on a spare hard drive and i get the exact same problems.

After all this, i thought i must have a faulty mobo so i returned it to the reseller, they told me they have "confirmed the fault" and sent me a new one.

Yesterday i put my pc back together without any cards, installed the asus drivers and put the card in, connected fine and got good speeds on the internet. I rejoiced and celebrated, thinking it was all over.

Then, this morning i booted up and i got no connection at all, after loads of tinkering im back to square one and both cards are operating like they did before the motherboard replacement.

Wireless Card Dissapears From Device Manager List

Feb 12, 2008

I have an HP dv9208nr laptop which has worked perfectly for me until recently. A few days ago after closing the computer and opening it back up i noticed that the wireless wasn't working. Obviously i checked the switch and the switch was on but the LED was orange indicating that wireless connectivity was turned off. I tried restarting and no luck; after a few other simple fixes didn't work; i went to the device manager and noticed that the wireless card wasn't in the list as it should have been. I tried updating the drivers; nothing. HP techs sent me a link to a service manual and instructed me to reseat the card manually, reset the BIOS, and reinstall the drivers. It didn't work. the next day the computer had found the card as new hardware and installed it. it worked fine for a day; then the same thing happened again.
