Did Not Make Any Partitions System Drive
May 14, 2009I just got my new build up and running late last night and during Vista installation, I did not make any partitions to my main system drive. I would like to make a couple, maybe one for Windows and programs and one for dedicated swap space. My main question is do you think it would be best just to reinstall windows and do it from there? Or just as good to use Disk Management to do it?

The evaluation period has long since expired and I am no longer using Vista. However, all the files are still present on my second partition, and every time I start my pc, the boot menu will come up. What do I need to do to completely remove all the files that belong to Windows Vista and make sure that my system boots straight into Windows XP,without stopping for the boot menu?

Apr 11, 2008I have a recent problem installing Windows updates on Vista Ultimate as the update process stays on 'creating restore point' forever. I've let it run as long as 7 hours in this state, with no change. It looks like the system is unable to make a restore point sucessfully. I know it has worked in the past, as I'm fairly up-to-date on Windows updates. Reading some other threads, I've tried using Disk Clean-up to remove all by the most recent restore points, and then try to disable/re-enable system restore - this part without success. When I check the system properties for System Restore, the System Restore button is greyed out. I've attached a screenshot of the screen for reference. I've checked the group policies to verify the System Restore is not disabled there.

so laptop speed is 54mps desktops is 100mps i downloaded an appplication on my laptop download speed was max 450kbps i downloaded an application (same one) on my desktop piddly 87kbs and the desktop is supposed to be way faster
also why are all wired coonection on status bar in vist maximum 100mps but wireless they go up to 150mps?
USB Device Could Run Faster Warning
Aug 31, 2009I am receving a popup warning that a given device "could run faster" if plugged in to another USB port. I only have two external ports and have been using the same devices since day 1; Logitech receiver and iPhone cable. The only recent changes hardware wise is Dell installed a new motherboard. I have uninstalled the two USB composite devices and reinstalled them, no luck. I have check for updates and non are found.

Now, I plan in "some" foreseeable future to add another 2 GB of RAM but not now, and I don't mind reformatting and start from scratch at any time. Should I go 32 or 64 bit? All drivers are available for my stuff. Software too for the most part. I heard 32bit runs faster than 64, and sometimes the opposite. What should I do?

Sep 18, 2009I currently have a problem with running dreamscene, it slows my computer down when running it, as soon as I open up other windows. Also moving windows around the desktop is noticebly slower, along with the fact dreamscene stutters. I currently use a Nvidia Geforce 7300se which is intergrated graphics.
I was looking to upgrade to a cheap ATI HD3450 graphics card to solve this problem. Does anyone here know if the HD3450 will speed up dreamscene to its optimal level along with using and opening up windows without slow downs?
SP2 Fixes A Few Things
Jun 6, 2009Well I must admit, SP1 was a huge disappointment but SP2 was what the doctor ordered for my PC.
My 5+ year old XP system was 20 times faster at disk to disk copy and network to disk copy than was my Vista. Solaris and Linux were 30 times faster. Applied SP1, no change. Vista was still pig slow at moving big files.
But SP2 changed that, now have the same performance as XP, maybe even faster on disk to disk. M$ fixed something in this load. Don't know what, took them a long time but much welcomed fix!
Q6600, 8GB RAM, 500GB HD x 2, Vista Premium 64 bit.

Very rarely do I find little free apps that actually do anything useful, but this app closes down all 2000, xp and vista processes not needed during gaming. I got an extra 7fps in Far Cry2 small ranch very high benchmark. That's the same increase as overclocking from 3.16 to 3.8 on my Vista 64 x48 e8500 with gtx280. You probably all know about it already, but I only found it recently.

Yet sometimes it lets you log on, but when you log after 20 seconds it can freeze(but the arrow moves around the screen). I can get on safe mode perfectly(I am using now). I've been working on solutions that I have found on the internet and none seem to work. It does not seem to be limited to one thing as everything I download says that it is not a valid win32 program even .exe installers that I had used only days before. Now I can't even download things off of the internet. Anything I download just disappears from where the program has been saved too.

Dec 23, 2009I bought a new konica-minolta printer: Magicolor 4650 DN. It comes with lots of printer drivers. I use Windows 7 64 bit. I think the printer installed itself when I plugged it into the network router (linksys). Windows 7 found the printer and I added the printer and it seem to work, including settings / properties for duplex / grayscale / color / page layout / number of pages per sheet etc.
Question: This printer should support a lot of things and when I want to download software from the Konica minolta driver webpage, there are lots of things to download. Some of these have something to do with "ppd, pcl, xps" etc... I don't know what these things mean.

2. Let's say you bought a computer and it came with it all the necessary cds, which I think is the case with most computer purchases. Could you go as far as you can with formatting all the drives (C: drive, E: recovery drive, etc.) on the computer, and bring it back to normal with those cds (cds containing windows, dell software, etc.) of course disregarding other downloaded files like word docs, videos + music etc.?

May 3, 2009I Have a "Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium Laptop" I've had it for quite a while now and I have noticed programs seem to have stop responding! Example: I downloaded a Video editing software trial (My friend uses it on his pc) Called "Sony Vegas". You may have heard of this. When I Open it loads and then jumps into "Sony Vegas 9 Is Not Responding" And it basically forces me to close the program! This also happens on when i try to Save programs, documents, and even notepad has stopped responding! Or when i try to save a file on google sketch up it freezes and i loose all my data. this is such an annoying problem so if anyone has a solution please note back to me ASAP
