I have several programs that must be given permission each time I start them. One example, is the utility program called CCleaner. Is there a way to give it permanent permission to avoid granting permission on each invocation?
View 5 RepliesIf I use winrar or 7zip or whatever, Vista won't extract the files. Winrar says I don't have the rights to do so and won't let me tell it to do anything. 7zip acts as if it is working but the file never extracts. If I open up the folder to extract to and drag the files from the zipper program it asks for permission and will complete the task. how to tell Vista to allow extractions from winrar or 7zip

I upgraded it to Vista Home Premium using a Vista Express Upgrade Disc sent to me from Sony. this included all the relevant updated drivers and applications. A few weeks ago the HDD died and had to be replaced. I've reinstalled XP from my recovery disc, then upgraded again to Vista using Vista Express Disc. However I can't activate Vista as it says its already in use and I require another license. How can I activate it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have vista home premium and am experiencing the following problems: a) Internet explorer 8 suddenly disconnecting. this is happening frequently b) Slow PC- poor navigation response times. I have attempted to speed things up by doing a win disk clean and disk defrag. Also downloaded ccclean to clean up my system. All this improved PC speed marginally (say 5-10%) but my internet explorer disconnection issue continues. I am considering purchasing a registry cleaner to resolve my main 2 issues.

I have always un-ticked Indexing in XP Pro (to speed up overall system performance) and search/find worked by actually searching the hard drive/folder. But in Vista when I turn off Indexing, search does not work at all. It doesn't list any search results at all, it doesn't even attempt to search through the drive/folder. Is that normal?

View 6 Replies View RelatedIve been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

I intend to buy Windows 7 when it becomes available and wish to minimize my system upgrade problems as much as possible. Based on my understanding I would have to do a complete harddrive erase to install Win 7 and then reinstall all my applications. If possible and practical I'd like to upgrade XP to Vista and then Vista to Windows 7. My question am I likely to have problems going from a current up to date version of XP to a 2+ year old version of Vista which would require many updates to bring up to the current level?.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i go to start, all programs, all my folders/programs show up, but then i noticed that theres a "programs" folder within the list, and when i click that, it shows all the same folders/programs that are in the "all programs" list. but then some of the folders within the ones in the 'all programs" list, they are empty, but they show up in the programs folder in the list. i dont know how this happened and i just wanted to know how to fix this issue.

It has 320 Gb and 260 Gb are occupied so since I only have 80 Gb on the HD, I was trying to fix the problem.Well instead to fix the problem I made a mess somehow I changed the users and Admin' options, and I changed all the permissions to the accounts two accounts!! I was trying to get control of the system like a TrustedInstaller.instead.the laptop works but I have no access to anything!
Right now I basically have no permission only reading NO ACCESS to the hard disk ...no access to most of the systems' folders .
In prompt I can not really do anything since it denies every my request.
I am SO bored, because everything in Vista must Allow or Deny. And even though i ALLOW, ME, the ADMINISTRATOR, THE OWNER from the Computer has the acess Denied. Thats dumb, i think. i was wondering, how can i Take Ownership from my WHOLE computer and have the Full Permission from just everything. In a way to grant Acess to whole Notebook. How do i do it? I know its possible cause in a Modified Windows Version it was like that.

I used my IDE to USB 2.0 adapter and hooked up the HDD to my new Vista machine. Problem: While I can access, view, and copy all other files, I cannot access the My Documents folder because I don't have permissions. Well, let me clarify that - I can see the files, but I get the permissions error when I attempt to open or copy the files, individually, in groups, or by parent folder.Duh. Everytime I open them I get a little box that says "User account control" "A program needs your permission to continue". This is a real PIA. How do I eliminate this without turning UAC off?

On my C: drive they're called windows.old.5 or windows.old.4 etc. They are taking up half the space on my hard drive! Any time I try to delete them it tells me that i need permission to perform this action, but I am the only person who uses the laptop as it is mine. What can I do? I have looked at other threatds with this problem, I have made myself administrator, tried taking ownership over the files, and they still won't delete.
