I have tried repeatedly to fix my screensaver. It will not even turn on manually by clicking preview. All I get is a black screen for a few seconds and then back to the display options. I have tried different screen savers and none of them work.
I use vista basic, I've recently had my computer took right back to factory settings as I've been havingso many problems with my lap top, then the registry was sorted out, I know I've not got any virus on the lap top, each time my computer is turned on, I'm told that defender is switched off and I've got to turn it on, I've even tried to start scanning, to see if that would stop it, but it still happens ...
I'm really at the end of my tether with this issue - have a laptop which has windows Vista installed. Whenever I boot up the Windows Firewall is turned on. However, towards the end of the boot process, the Windows Firewall turns itself off, almost as if when a program loads it knocks it out. Is there anyway I can do a walk thru' of the boot up process so I can see if I can capture which program or process is doing it? At my wits end.
Using the windows Aero theme with all visual effects on. My computer scores 5.9 across the board (except 5.7 in cpu and hard drive...) in Vista Experince so I should be able to handle everything Vista throws at me. My problem is that Vista turns off the Min/Max animation occasionally and I have no idea why. I can go back in to performance>visual effects and see that its still checked. Clicking apply again will restore the animations.
I recently installed SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.2 and now when I go into Vista and click the hibernate feature, my screen turns off for about a minute, lights stay on, then my log on screen comes, just as it would if I turned my computer on after hibernation. Also, when GRUB boot loader gives me the OS Choices, how can I set "Windows" as default? Right now, SLED is default.
It has windows vista, It just beeps and the monitor show this message: VGA Input: no input signal and turn black and then show this message: Monitor going to sleep and turns black. I can't do anything. I am not able to access anything at all. I restarted the pc so many times and while it's rebooting I press f8 f11 etc and not getting anywhere. I don't know waht to do next. My son thinks that he left the pc on sleep mode.
i have problem with vista sidebar when i open it.. just turns on.. and off.. in a moment ( the same is.. when i turn on the computer) I succeeded to get screenshot..
I just bought a Dell studio XPS 1640 about a week ago. It ran perfectly until 2 days ago. Now when I turn on the computer it takes forever. When it finally gets running the HDD light on the case is always on and it runs very slowly. If the computer has been on for several hours the light turns off and it runs fine. But when I restart it does the same thing over again. I thought it might be indexing or something along those lines but didnt know how to find out.
For about 1-2 years my computer ran fine until recently. Now, whenever I start up my computer it boots all the way to the Vista loading screen, seems as if it loads all the way, then shuts down with no warning. This happens at the same point every time. I tried putting in the Vista DVD and starting that up in an attempt to reinstall or repair Vista, but I get the same results on the same loading screen. The computer is custom built by myself.
Whenever I go into safe mode or run the memory diagnostic, after a few minutes it just turns off by itself. When I go to normal mode it works fine (as in I can have it on for as long as I want and it doesn't turn off). I don't know why it keeps turning off in safe mode.
I can put the pc to sleep with either the sleep button on the keyboard or the on-screen sleep button but when the pc goes to sleep the keyboard and mouse USB connections go to sleep too. leaving me with no way to wake up the pc! I have tried using Vista 64's built in drivers for the mouse & keyboard and also tried downloading and installing the Microsoft software for the keyboard & mouse. Same problem. the light on the keyboard and mouse both turn off when sleep is utilized. I've tried changing the settings in the Power Options to enable the power button on the pc to turn on sleep instead of shut down. It does put the pc to sleep but when I try to wake the pc from sleep with the power button the pc acts like it was completely shutdown and tries to do a full boot which then results in the windows screen saying it didn't shut down right, "start normally"?
The pc then starts as normal but how do fix the sleep problem? I have no problem with another pc with Vista Ultimate and 2 other pcs with MCE2005 and the sleep status. The problem pc has all the latest Window updates, current bios, latest ATI 64 bit drivers for the graphics card. One possibility might be that the graphics card is designed for the new PCIe 2.0 but the board is the older PCIe standard. The graphics card is supposed to be "backwards compatible" with older PCIe slots but now I wonder if that could be the problem?
my processor is a core 2 duo E4600 @ 2.4Ghz.The problem is that sometimes when i switch my pc on the beeping overheat sound comes and my pc turns off. sometimes when i do manage to turn it on, i use coretemp and speedfan for the temp. reading and in the beginning it reads at 83 degrees celcius! then it cools down and the temp. remains betwwen 65c - 70c. yesterday the nomal temp was between 40c-45c. the sudden increase in its normal temp scared me. this increase happenned after i cleaned and dusted the insides of my pc. while dusting it i didnt do anything near the processor. i have 3 8mm fans in the pc. 1 blowing on the processor and 2 sucking air out-one from the back and one at the side.
i have been trying to put itunes onto my pc and everytime i install and run the itunes program it runs but the whole window is black so you cant see anything. i have tried install 32 bit version and 64 bit version into different program files ie the program (x86) folder and the normal program files folder, neither one works as they both bring up the same problem.
I noticed that recently the little speaker icon for the Realtek HD Audio Manager (on the taskbar next to the clock) seems to completely disappear at times. One minute it's there, and then Poof! it's gone. It started a few weeks ago. I would restart the computer, and it would be back, but then later disappear. (I checked everything I could think of, enabling the notification, checking all the boxes in the control panel and in the realtek control panel, making sure it wasn't a "hidden" icon, etc.)
Now it's back, but instead of being white, it's red. I used to be able to right-click on it and the volume slider would appear and I could adjust the volume easily. Now when I right-click on the red icon, I get a list--> Sound Manager, Audio Devices, System Sound Events, etc. but no volume slider like before.
The sound itself works fine--no problem with the speakers--but I just can't figure out what has caused the problem with the icon disappearing and now re-appearing but with a red color.
apparently for some reason the dvd stops reading...
when i enter "my computer" and try to go into drive d(my dvd) it just crashes,
then i have to wait from a range of 5 mins to 1.5 hours for windows explorer to restart...
and the game installation crashes too...
that happens with other dvds and cds too.
i have changed various dvd drives from various companies and i have updated all of their drivers...the problem is consistent.
im tired of buying new dvd drives and throwing them away for nothing.
obviously its a vista issue cause on my old pc everything works just fine(i have xp on that one).
most of the games i just copy the dvds files on my portable harddrive using my old pc and then do the installations through that harddrive on my current pc...
but this game is a "steam" game and that wont work...
any ideas?
ps:its not a hardware issue, its definately a windows vista issue.
So whenever I turn on the system, after I run a few light aplications, like Internet Explorer or PC Wizard for example, the screen turns dark for 2 seconds, and the error message: "igfx display driver has stopped responding and was successfully recovered" pops up. This may happen once every 30 minutes or even around 5 times in 20 Seconds, resulting in a blue screen of death. The latest driver which is currently installed for the Intel chipset is 15.13.6.64.1908 (7.15.10.1908) which seems to be causing the problems. This driver is also unsigned by microsoft, but is the most current driver to date (pcd5srvc_x64.pkms, igfxcoin_v1908.dll, and igdkmd64.sys comes up as unsigned in sigverif.exe). I uninstall this driver through Hardware Manager, but the current driver then goes down to (6.0.6001.18000). Even though this old driver is stable, my resolution is horrible and websites with picture intensive pages lag and flash like crazy. I've been searching the internet all night with this problem, and this is my last resort for an answer. I don't know what else to do. I can't even find a lower driver version for this chipset on Intel's support page.
I have got a nasty bug on my vista laptop. I have tried just about everything to clean it up but with no luck. When the bug hits, it turns off the shell extension on AVG, disables all the shortcuts on my desktop. ( Turns the icons to a blank page as well as not letting them execute) When I click on the start menu all the "most used" programs are gone. It also disable the shut down option arrow from the start menu. I have avast, AVG, SypBot, SuperAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall and Hijackthis all have found problems but have not fixed the major issue.
I am running Vista Home Premium x64 with a Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard combo. Back in Feb 2008 I downloaded the optional "HID Non-user Input data filter" update and installed it. This fixed my screensaver not working issue. Then, 4 days ago my screensaver stopped working again. In my system I see that the update is still installed. The only thing that changed is I upgraded my Norton Antivirus 2008 to 2009, and installed one of the standard "Automatic Updates" for Microsoft Windows. Does anyone have any clue as to why or how to fix it again?
This question has been asked by many people, but somehow no solutions have been offered. It's about the screensaver not working anymore. My os is home premium 32 bit. I checked the Preview which is working, I checked the settings which is 5 min., and I checked the power settings which is 15 min.on battery and 30 min. on plug-in. I have it on Performance Setting. My laptop is 4 months old. I have over 65 GB left on C: and 5.6 GB left on my D: drive.
Just got a new PC with Vista and my screensaver does not work. A previous thread indicated that it could be caused by a wireless mouse. I have a MS Intellipoint 4.1. Is this the cause of the problem?
Got a totally different screensaver problem than found by searching the forum.
I got my screensaver to engage after 15 minutes without any mouse movement.
The thing is, if I am watching a movie, the screensaver will start after the 15 minutes into the movie. Even if I leave a game in the pause mode to get something like food, the screensaver will engage after the 15 minutes. No matter what screensave I use, it still happens.
I have a Dell Inspiron running Vista. Had no problems until recently when the screensaver started to refuse to work. Even when I go to screen saver settings and select preview the screensaver just comes on for less than a second and goes off again.
I have got a wireless mouse but have always used it, I have tried unplugging it, but to no avail. I have also tried a selective startup with only microsoft programs on startup, but still no joy.
I accidentally deleted some .scr files from the system32 folder and now i can't install any screen savers nor use the ones i didn't delete. (it just shows "none" on the change screens saver menu). I remember deleting a small (5kb or so) .scr file which i assume caused the problem.
I updated and downloaded the patch and it started to work instantly, But later that same night after running a handful of other applications it stopped working and the screensaver won't start. I can go and preview it but it won't start once I am idle. I know that this is a ridiculus issue but my wife loves to see all our family photos as the screensaver.
This is my first post. I tried to post before but I can't locate it so I will try again.Plaese bear with me. I have a new Dell Inspiron 531S that I have connected to my old ViewSonic VA720 monitor. I am running Vista Home Premium. My problem is that i cannnot get Screensaver to work. No matter which dispaly or time I choose Nothing happens. It's more agrivating than anything else but I would like to be able to egt it to work.
I somehow have managed to delete my default vista screensaver , u know the one that says windows vista and does that aero animation, i was wondering if someone could tell me how to install it back from the dvd or maybe download it from somewhere, coz i have searched in my windows folder and it is not there, and i really like that screensaver the basic one.
