everytime i put my laptop on it tells me that my windows firewall is off etc etc and i have to turn it on manually everytime.
i have vista and avg antivirus and registry mechanic and spybot
a member of my family has onecare installed, and it keeps telling him that windows firewall is turned off, even though he did nothing

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm really at the end of my tether with this issue - have a laptop which has windows Vista installed. Whenever I boot up the Windows Firewall is turned on. However, towards the end of the boot process, the Windows Firewall turns itself off, almost as if when a program loads it knocks it out. Is there anyway I can do a walk thru' of the boot up process so I can see if I can capture which program or process is doing it? At my wits end.

I click the button to turn it on and then a screen pops up that says "Security Center cannot turn on Windows Firewall." I then click on "Turn on Windows Firewall manually." In fact, it is hidden so well that many users may think that the two-way firewall was yet another feature that was pulled from the final product. While that is true for other features the two-way firewall made it into the final product, you just need to know how to find it.
To get started, just click on the Start Button and key in wf.msc and hit Enter. This will bring up the comprehensive Windows Firewall with Advanced Security management interface. Here you will be able to configure rules for incoming as well as outgoing connections.
Make sure that you set the default action for outbound connections from allow to block. Otherwise the outbound firewall will be useless because it will allow all connections. This can be done from the Windows Firewall Properties link found on the main screen of the management interface.
all of a sudden my windows firewall has gone off and I cannot put it back on manually or auto. I have scanned my system with 3 virus programs and spyware programs and all is clear. I do not have any Norton software on my pc but the only thing I have done recently is put a new netgear wireless router on my system. running vista home premium all up to date

The only way to turn the display back on is to close and then open the lid. This disconnets me from AOL, so I have to sign back on again, and if I was emailing, I might lose my current email. Under Power Options, I have 'Turn off the display' set to Never for both On Battery and Plugged in. Under 'Put the computer to sleep' I have both On battery and Plugged in set to never. Nonetheless, the display still shuts off while I am working. What do I need to do to prevent the display from turning off at odd intervals?

Now after doing a vista update it seems to have enable the WF and a GPO and I cannot turn them off and nor can I connect to the networks ( no lan drive/proter/internet) NOTHING. I pressed Turn User Account Control on or off > Continue and find that it is not ticked and UAC is NOT on. I keep ticking the box and going OK but it just doesn't turn on.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion dv6700 or DV6810 as HP refers it to and it won't turn on anymore! My system has 3 gigs of RAM and is an AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 GHz. I was originally using Windows Vista 32-bit Home Premium System Pack 1 (what it came with the system) and I had upgraded to Vista 64-bit. I am not sure if my problem was caused by my upgrade of Vista or my system being too warm (as I have been using it a lot and it has been getting hot and making loud noises); but after I upgraded to the 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium System Pack 2, I was then going to the upgrade directly from the Windows to the Vista Ultimate which I had purchased earlier (and not got around to update any of it with my schedule)....and after I did this, it asked for me to restart my computer and as soon as I did....poof! It shut off and won't turn back on.

But, in Security Center it shows my 3rd party firewall being On but Windows Firewall being off. Also, in Administrative Tools---Windows Firewall with Advanced Security is showing Windows Firewall being on in Domain Profile. Is this normal?
