When I post a question on a newsgroup and get an email stating that I have a response and I click on the "read and rate the response" link I get a new Internet Explorer window that remains blank. It also has the word "Done" in the lower left corner. Does anyone know why? Is this a new problem in Vista? They seem to keep poping up.
View 7 RepliesFew days back, I was installing/uninstalling some programs. I don't know what went wrong, but I found the links in "Computer" are not working. When I open "My Computer" ("Computer" in Vista), all the links like "Device Manager", "Remote Settings" etc are not working. It says for "Device Manager" - "Windows cannot find '%SystemRoot%\system32devmgmt.msc". However, if I run the same command from a DOS window, it exists. This is same for all the other links.
My sound icon in the task bar is also marked a permanent red cross. If I open Volume Mixer, it says - No audio device found. But I can still hear sound.
I have always been able to hit a link in an email and get to another email from that link. Now I can't. Has something been corrupted or changed in my windows mail? I have gone to tools and don't see anything that pertains.

I checked the default program and it is set to windows mail, which is where i want it as I did not load outlook. Why does it not work?

View 9 Replies View RelatedThis has been happening for the past three days. I just recently bought a laptop, the Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898, with Intel® WiFi Link 5100. I would be just surfing on the internet and then the WiFi link would randomly just stop working. I would go to the available connections window, and the network i'm connected to would say 'Connected with limited connectivity', and then it would disconnect and then it would not be able to detect any networks, even though it previously did before. I know it's not a network problem because the same problem occured on two different networks I have set up in two different places. The device manager does not report anything wrong with it, and I did not randomly turn off the wifi for any reason. I would have to reset my laptop in order to fix the problem......

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently had a power failure whilst working on my PC - I restarted it - but started getting problems - I have put both C and D drives through the Check Disk Utility. To all intends iand purposes the Pc appears to be workin, except:
1. The Mouse pointer has the `working in the background`i.e.the revolving circle which goes on for 5 secs then off for 1 sec and back to 5 secs etc.I have tried changing the pointer but to no avail.
2. I can not delete anything in the C/ directorory Program Files.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate with Service Pack 1. I have Norton 360 installed as well as Windows Defender. Norton and Defender run at different times on different days. All of my e-mail is scanned before it is installed on my computer. There are no known viruses on my computer. A few days ago I noticed that my CPU would average nearly 80 to 90 percent. When I pressed ALT-CTRL-DELETE it would not respond. I ran taskmgr from the command line to see what processes were running. Nothing out of the ordinary was running.
I did see explorer.exe maxing at 50 percent at times. I read a few comments about this issue and one response was to delete ( I normally rename) vdmdbg.dll When I tried to do this I would get access denied. I did attempt to change the ownership but was unable to. I also changed my login process to require ctrl-alt-delete. When I did that it still would not accept it. I ran the login screen utility to allow me to enter the ctrl-alt-delete from the gui which did work.
My old PC ran Windows XP and Outlook Express. My new PC is Vista and Windows Mail. I moved all of my ISP settings from Outlooks Express to Windows Mail. I can compose and send mail. I can also receive mail. Anytime I try to response to mail, I get the following error message -

The subject in the error message is differnt depending on what I'm replying too, but the error code is always the same. I called support at my ISP and after about 2 hours of troubleshooting he told me the problem was with my mail client. I am running Trend Micro virus scan but I get the error message even when it's disabled. If I compose a message from scratch and send it, things work fine. It's only when replying to emails that I have the probem.
This problem have been bugging me for about a year now. Whenever I bring up a new window (where you can browse for files), when opening, saving or importing something into the applications, so when I rightclick anywhere (the space, the folders or files), it just hangs for a minute (sometimes longer), while I see an hourglass-mouse-cursor, and I can't do anything about that window. I can tab to other programs, though. Sometimes there is also the same delay, when I right-click an icon (of an application that does not exist) on my Quick Launch bar. I have tried different applications, like ShellX, ShellMenuView and ProcMon. I've also tried removing some keys in regedit, to get rid of the extra rightclick options (like Winrar).

I tried inserting a disk and it took ages to get a response, I chose to install something from the disk... and everything froze at that instant.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI need some assistance. I have a Dell Inspiron Laptop that runs Vista Home Edition. Whenver I boot up and try to open a program or application, it takes a really REALLY long time for it to open. For example, whenever I try to open Firefox or Internet Explorer or even my control panel, the window will open and will be blank. Then it will start to load but either take an enormous amount of time or, after I've become tired of waiting, I'll try to exit and it will say (Not Responding). Now eventually this goes away and the window does close, but like I said, it takes a ton of time trying to open and close these things up. If I do wait it out and I do get into my Internet Explorer or Mozilla, any links that I click or addresses that I type, it again, takes forever. I've run a deep system scan with my Anti-Virus software and came up with nothing. I did a system restore to a point where the problem was not happening and, again, nothing.

Either my connection seems normal or the link up then down alternating for hours. I'm running Vista 32 Using either my speedtouch 536v6 or Belkin G wireless router to access. Problem occurs with either. Have used filtered dsl line or not. Problem occurs with either. Have shut my comp. off. Problem occurs with either. ISP have visited twice, check the line, shrugged their shoulders and closed the ticket. And worse of all not consistent, so it's hard to locate the problem. It connection will work fine for an hour (like right now) then just stop working. I have reset both modem, reset user setting, obtained new ip, etc, etc.

I am using cross over USB cable and have installed drivers for same. I get message trying to access my XP from my Vista pc - "folder is not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network resource." "Not enough server storage to process this command". I have granted access on the XP to share this folder. Try as I might, following all the instructions I can find, I cannot link this new laptop. Should I just abandon the old network and start fresh?
I just installed Vista SP1 and am convinced that my never before seen printing problem is due to SP1 (can no longer print anything on my HP psc 1350v All-In-One printer). Ever since I use Vista and Windows Mail, people tell me that the link does not work. Either nothing happens when they click on the link or the error msg is that the link is out-of-date (Often I copy & paste the info from a message I have sitting in Draft, since I sent standard msgs to my customers).
