I've got a curious problem which I can not solve myself. I want to install a new PDF printer and a normal laserprinter-driver, both have driver for Vista. Setup ends with success, but no printer is added to the list of printers. I tried installing with UAC on and off, antivius is off while installing, installing as admin. Has somebody an advice for me?
View 4 RepliesThe desktop PC runs XP Home SP2 and the laptop runs Vista Home. The XP system has two printer attached and both are shared. The XP system shares two folders and the Vista system can access the shared folders. When I try to add the shared printers on the Vista system the printers are listed in the Windows Printer Installation dialog. However, when I select a printer and click Next and error dialog opens with the message "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied". This happens for both printers..........
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell with Windows Vista Business installed. I set it up to connect to the network printers and everything was fully operational. I was printing fine on 2/15/08. I came into work this morning 2/19/08 and when I try to print I get a message saying unable to print. I get the same message with 2 different canon printers and 1 hp laserjet printer. I tried removing the printer and reinstalling it and there was no change. I installed it locally and there was no change. I stopped and restarted the print spooler and there was no change. I cannot even print a test page.

You might not have permission to use the network resource.The specific network name is no longer available.They are all set to be Private networks and the workgroup name is the same on all computers.
I had some problems with printing to the Vista Ultimate (32 bit) Fax, so I deleted the fax icon from the printer menu in the control panel. I cannot add it now. I get this error message: " The printer corresponding to the selected acct. is not existing. Fax printer is required to render the fax content. Click yes to add the printer now...." I click yes and it gives me this message: "could not add the fax printer. An error has occurred." This all started after I the OS wouldn't start, and I booted from the disk and did a system fix.

I have 3 hp printers installed, as I need a printer in various work locations ... all of the printers have worked fine for 6 months. Now, all of the sudden, with no error messages/popups/etc. they have all quit working. My USB ports are functioning with all other devices and the printers work fine with any other pc. The printers will read "ready" and the file will show as printing, but nothing happens. When I initially plug the printers into the usb, I get an error sound, but no pop-up. I have tried deleting one of the printers, but I got no usb printer recognition to re-install it, so I restored to a point before the printer issues and the printer is back in the printers folder, but still doing nothing.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just installed a TrendNet TE100-P21 Print server to handle a few printers on a small home network. It's a mix of XP and a Vista (Business) machine. The XP machines communicate with the printers fine. However I have a problem with the Vitas machine.
After reading many reports here is as far as I get:-
Add a local printer, first click on "Add a Network,wireless etc. printer". This gets Vista to list/register the print server ports. Cancel, then go to "Add a local printer", Use an existing port, On the dropdown menu the Print server and ports are listed.

I am currently running Vista Home Premium x64. I have a HP PSC 1610 and a Samsung ML-4600 printer, both of which were working ok with vista until recently. When switching either of the printers on, vista prompted that it was installing new devices, even through they had been previously installed and working ok. Each time vista says that it cannot find the drivers and prompts me to use the drivers that were supplied. I have downloaded the latest vista compatible drivers from the manufacturers website, but it still does not recognise the printer and says installation failed. Both printers have now disappeared from the printers control panel.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAccording to Canon Tech Support--spoke to the manager -- no Canon Printer is compatible with XP Pro's and Vista Business's Remote Desktop. Since their printer drivers are made in Japan, the manager of inkjet support told me all he could do was forward my request to the highest level here in America with the suggestion of supporting the Remote desktop.
I even tried Black Ice's Print2XP (the cost is over $100 and no phone support) which is supposed to create a virtual printer days ago but cannot get it to work --their email tech support has not answered in 4 days.
Does anyone know a way to get my PC at work which uses Vista Business to list my Canon Printer so I am able to print documents that are on my work machine and on my Novell Network of which I am the Admin? My home machine has XP Pro. When I had the Epson 980 Printer, using Windows 2000 at home and XP Pro at work, the printer was recognized on my work PC and I had no problems printing.
I'm at my wits' end and don't know what to do next --I have Vista Home Premium on a 36-bit computer. I unstalled a local USB Dell printer and it was working fine. Then it started printing tiny letters, then stopped printing at all and printer icons disappeared from the Control Panel. I used Windows Update and installed Service Pack 1. The printer icons are back, but there are now multiple copies of the printer which I'm unable to delete. At restart, the printer prints the same page each time. I went into Services, stopped and restarted the spooler to no effect.
Would appreciate any thoughts on how to fix this.
On Win XP there was a tick box under folder options view tab to enable/disable automatic searching for network folders and printers. I cannot find the equivalent for this in Vista Business or Vista Ultimate. Does anyone know how to do this in Vista?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was trying to set up a print server to my HP 4000. I created several printers with various different IP address (the print server is going thru my router). When all that failed, I called tech support for the print server. We ended up changing the IP address to match the router -- this was the problem and now I can print. However, when I try to delete those other printers...it won't let me. Just gives me an error to make sure its connected to the network. If I double click on the printer that says "deleting.....offline" I get an error message 0x00000709. I've made sure there are no print jobs spooling. What else can I do?? Furthermore...when I go to regedit and look under print/printers....only the correct ones are there. I'm at a loss...

I had a copy of Windows XP Pro, and I created all my partitions in that, when I upgraded I just formatted my drive C and installed Vista. I was told that I should not partition any drives that have partitions created in XP or earlier systems because it will cause the data to corrupt, due to the way Vista deals with the sectors of the hard drive. Is there any truth to this?

I fact I so none after 1/31 except for an uninstall I did. I have plenty of free disk space (100 gb free of 149 gb). It includes written and thoughts to remove physical, written and scribbled contaminants. Its objective is to produce a waste stream (or treated effluent) and a solid waste or sludge suitable for discharge or reuse back into the environment. This material is often inadvertently contaminated with many toxic organic and inorganic compounds.
Sewage is created by Adam Albright. It can be treated close to where it is created (in chat rooms, vista groups or other forums and computer systems), or collected and transported via a network of pipes and pump stations to a computer treatment plant (see sewerage and pipes and Ubuntu infrastructure). Sewage collection and treatment is typically subject to local, state and federal regulations and standards (regulation and controls). Industrial sources of Adam Albright waste writings often require specialized treatment processes (see written waste writing treatment).
Typically, sewage treatment involves three stages, called primary, secondary and tertiary treatment. First, the solids that Adam Albright has written are separated from the Vista stream. Then dissolved written matter is progressively converted into a solid mass by using indigenous, linux born microorganisms. Finally, the written solids are neutralized then disposed of or re-used, and the treated writings may be disinfected chemically or physically (for example by lagoons and micro-filtration). The final effluent can be discharged into a stream, river, bay, lagoon or wetland, or it can be used sent to Ubuntu for the contamination of Linux systems. I created a CD that I want to boot with. I thought that all you need to do is create an autorun.inf file, with the file to load pointed to. It did'nt work. Do you know what I did wrong?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to move my Pictures/Music/Documents folders to a new location via Properties|Location|Move. It asks me if I want to move all my files from the old location to the new location. In my case, the new location is simply on another drive, D:My Pictures (just another partition on the same computer - no networking or anything). The dialog box says:"We recommend moving all of the files or you will see two 'Pictures' folders inside the 'Rhizomorph' folder in Windows Explorer" Fine, so I choose the option to move all my files.
but I still get duplicate folders!!!! The prompt specifically states that by moving all my files I will avoid creating duplicate folders, but it does it anyway. What the heck? When I try to delete the new folder that is created (which now has a regular yellow folder icon) it won't let me, despite having ownership of it. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I just bought a new PC. I went with the 64 bit vista, 8mb ram, good nvidia video card. When I install th eflight simulator X. It outo launches. I choose to create a desktop icon but it is not created. AFter I close the sim for the 1st time, I can not find it anywhere, not in program files, etc.

A similar issue happened with VuePrint, the photo editing/managing software that I use. If I move something to an existing folder I can find the file. If I create a file with VuePrint then it and its contents remain hidden.
View 4 Replies View Relatedevery time my computer reboots, a weird folder is created on the c drive. this folder has a random alpha-numeric name and contains a bunch of windows update stuff. when i reboot, another folder is created with the exact same contents but with a different folder name...now i have ~15 of these weird folders. i think it's related to updates because the folders contains files such as:
WUClient-SelfUpdate-ActiveX.cab
WUClient-SelfUpdate-Aux-TopLevel.cab
wusetup.exe
i'm having trouble deleting the folders due to permissions and "folder is being used"...but i'm not concerned about deleting them right now. what i'm really concerned with is stopping their creation! another odd thing is that if i connect an external usb drive, the new folders will be created on the external drive instead of the c drive. i'm runnning vista ultimate x64 with SP2 on an HP machine with RAID 1 mirroring my hard drive.
I am running Vista Home Premium x64. Everytime I bootup, the Language Pack removal service runs (as it is supposed to, apparently).
However, Vista seems to treat this as a significant system event, which triggers a restore point to be created. The restore point creation is slowing down access to my hard disk everytime I reboot.
When I look at the list of restore points that Vista has created, a restore point is created at every bootup due to the event “Uninstall: Language Pack Removal”. I can see the list by running “System Restore”, then selecting “choose another restore point” and clicking Next.
Any idea how to stop the restore point being created at every bootup? I assume there’s a good reason Vista runs the Language Pack removal service at every bootup, so I’d rather keep that running.
I also want a restore point created when there is a software install/uninstall, so want to keep the system restore service running, too.
About a year ago, I changed my main user account from "Jaime" to "Roggie" on a whim, and everything worked fine. This past weekend, I restarted my computer and when it came back up it had created a new user profile in c:/users/. All my files are still in
"c:/users/jaime/", but now everything loads from "c:/users/roggie". Is there any way to switch it back or am I going to have to recreate all my system settings? And why would it change over a year after I switched the names?
I've already tried createing a second user account called "Jaime" and renaming the current account back to "Jaime" - both resulted in a new folder called "Jaime_02" instead of going back.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I'm running Home Basic 32bit if thats any use at all.
I know there's a way to turn off hibernate and stop this file from being created. I did a new install and now can't figure it out. I already have my power plan, advanced, sleep, never on all sleep options. I tried to manually delete the file and it won't let me. I don't think I had this problem before and don't know what's different this time around. I have admin privileges. There have been more than 1 funky things happened since the new install. It's almost like a different OS. I have admin rights, but sometimes it's as if I don't. I can't see for example a hidden folder in program data. I have selected for folder views to show hidden files and unchecked hide system files etc. I installed IconViewer which I used before. It worked great. It adds an extra tab to file properties named icons (If the file type has icons associated with it) and allows you to change it. I have installed, uninstalled, installed. It just doesn't work. It's a really basic program/add-on.

I made a mistake and created a RAID0 of my 2 drives. Since the drives were not the same size I lost disk space on the larger one. Can I make a full system backup, remove the RAID0 defenitions from the drives in BOIS and do a full system restore and that way get rid of the RAID0, or will the restore process require RAID0 again?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis has been asked in many ways in many places, but I've yet to see a solution to this... when using Windows Explorer to display folder contents, and to then sort the files displayed by date (created, accessed, or modified, the problem is the same), the files are sorted first by month, then by day, then by year. The result is that all "January" date appear first, then all days within January, then all years for January dates, and THEN all February dates, etc. This is not how a sort by date is done.
Any first year programming student knows that when sorting by date, the result HAS to be chronological. Why doesn't Microsoft know this? Fields in a sort need to be handled by TYPE. Date fields are NOT the same as numerical fields. When an ascending sort of "1/15/2007, 1/14/2009" produces the results of "1/14/2009, 1/15/2007", that is a BUG, and Microsoft should fix it.
I have read the turtorial " How to create a hibernate shortcut" ; I did follow the instruction and successfully. I never use the hibernate function before so my question is: when I click on that icon,my laptop shutdown, should I have to wait for a little bit ? How can I turn on my laptop again?
