Not Recognize Router Connection
Dec 28, 2009
Just recently, I accidently ran 'rd /s /q c:'. You can imagine the chaos that insued. Anyways, I reformatted my computer. For some reason though, Vista won't recognize my router connection anymore. I have a LinksysWRT140EN router hooked up, but neither the Linksys installation CD or Vista will recognize the broadband connection.

I am having problems getting a wireless internet connection for a friend who has just bought a new laptop with Windows Vista. He connects through a Netgear, wireless router however the network connection on the laptop shows as local connection ok however there is limited access due to no internet connection. The adapter has a router assigned IP address of 192.168.0.3. The gateway, DNS server and DHCP server address all show the 192.168.0.1. I have connected to the admin console on the router and the router has been assigned a public address and DNS address from the ISP (AOL ADSL).
I disabled encryption and mac authentication incase for some reason this would be causing it but its still the same. He has a desktop PC hard wired to the router and this connects without any problems. The IPConfig of the adapter is much the same as the wireless adapter on the laptop with exception of the IP address which is 192.168.0.2. I can get a connection to the internet if I hard wire the laptop however when connecting wireless it once again gets a local intranet connection but no internet. I can ping the local network and the gateway but nothing beyond the gateway.
I have done the usual things in the way of power cycling the router/modem and disabling/repairing network connections etc. I recall having the same problem around 2 months ago for another friend. They were using a cable modem with an Actiontec router. I did as I did above and even tried 2 different routers with no change. My XP laptop connects fine.

I have the most basic of basic Netgear wireless routers (WGR614), yet I still can't set this dang thing up! I am trying to set up two computers that are literally side by side. I go through the set up, it acknowledges the internet connection, then it asks for the login/password for my connection. I don't have one via my provider ("Qwest) as I simply ran through their install disk and it's ready to roll, no sign in, etc.
I've read quite a bit about this, so I thought maybe it wasn't directed at my providers sign in, and instaed used the general sign in 'admin' and 'password' that work on virtually all Netgear units. No go. I also tried the login of '1234', which is used for older routers (which this is not), but that didn't work either. I am obviously using wires, as there is no need to go wireless. What am I doing wrong? All my wiring is correct.

I bought a Netgear wireless router today so I can hook up multiple computers in my home. Problem is that when I hook everything according to the -schematics it does not go as planned. I have a verizon dsl modem and before I hook up my router everything works (internet). But when I connect my router I cannot get a connection at all. Also after I disconnected the router and connect just the dsl modem the way it was before I cannot get a connection either. I tried reseting the dsl box and I unhooked all the phone cords and ethernet cords and restarted the computer and it is still a no go. I am so confused I cannot understand it.

I recently bought a new Linksys router ultra range plus. it can broadcast on n, g and b bands. My laptop has a "g" adapter. but after setting up the router i tried to connect to the router and only get "Local" connection. DHCP is enabled in my router but the "ipconfig /all" command on the laptop says it isnt. My room mates connect fine, one has a Mac and one has an HP running vista (not sure the version). When i connect via ethernet the internet works just fine. im leaning towards an adapter problem but im no pro in this field. iv updated the adapter drivers to the latest update (attempting to solve the problem).

My Home network setup consists of the following....
In one room. 1 x laptop running XP Home, connected to the internet via
a linksys wireless router, and modem.
In another room, I have this laptop, Acer Aspire, running Vista
Business, and has wireless.
When I connected up my router (given to me by a family member, no
software, just router, and mains adapter), and switched on my Acer
laptop in the other room, I was able to connect to my Linksys Router,
and gain access to the internet without any security whatsoever, no wep
key or anything.
Now i know most people with problems have issues with not being able to
connect to the internet because of a wep key lost or alike.
My issue is, i would like to add security to my network to stop other
people in my building gaining access, or using my connection without my
permission.
I can also connect my mobile phone to my home wireless network, and
again, no wep key is asked for, which is quite worrying.

As I've been enjoying Vista a LOT, I was looking in the Vista Tweaks section on Speedguide.net & found that MS Vista's new TCP IP stack has the ability to autotune broadband internet connections due to packet load and or router capabilities/defiencies (much like a "gamer" would be trying to do w/ proggies like TCP Optimizer) except that Vista can do this on the fly while you're surfing, playing MMOG's, etc. Speedguide noted that in Vista this is usually turned off by default but in Server 2008 this is turned on by default.
Now why would Redmond do that? I can understand why turning this on for server usage but I'm a big time online gamer & this ability caught my attention--do y'all know what it means to have a stable connection when you're in the middle of a big intense furball w/ a LOT of others trying to shoot you down? This kind of usage is very much like a server being pinged by LOTS of users trying to get their presentations, budgets, timesheets, projects, etc & IT checking the server as well because Joe can't get his presentation files to run off PowerPoint cause the server is too busy so they're in there checking for malicious "content" that may be using up needed resources....
So I went in & checked thru "elevated command prompt" & sure enough it was turned off. So I just went in & enabled it & set all up according to Speedguide's recommendations to see what Autotuning would do....All I can tell you is this:If you do a lot of online gaming you will WANT this on!Check it out at SpeedGuide.net :: Broadband · Cable · DSL · VoIP · Security · Network Tools I posted this here as I couldn't find any references to this tidbit here in this forum. Now if you just only surf the 'net & online shopping & such I really wouldn't bother w/ this as Vista's TCP IP stack in default configuration is more than enough.Hence why I posted this in the Gaming section.

My friends computer uses a Netgear router and his computer runs on XP to which I try to connect for internet access. When his computer is turned OFF, I can access the internet no problem. However, when his computer is ON, I can not connect!!
-Vista 64 bit, service pack 1 and is completely up-to-date
-All hardware drivers are up todate with no hardware problems
-DLink has good reception with 1.20 driver (D-Link WMA 510)
-Router computer is XP, up-to-date drivers. Computer uses Netgear router
why my wireless connection drops when the computer with the Router is turned on?

I have forgotten the Username and Password for the Login ID... and it is not the default (Username: *blank* Password: admin). I have heard you can hold the reset button on the back of the wireless router but will this reset my wireless network? By that i mean... will i be able to connect with my laptop still through that wireless network or will i have to set it up again?

I am having the worst problems connecting using a cable connection, which I need because as I am in Europe at the moment, many sites or private homes are not equipped with wireless. Now, when I connect with cable, everything seems to be working fine, the Toshiba connectivity doctor tells me I am connected, the diagnose program assures me that the problem has been resolved etc. etc. and yet whenever I try to connect (IE, Mozilla, Google, I have tried them all), I get an error screen. I have tried everything I could think of, checking my settings etc. Nothing works.
Let me emphasize that:
1) wireless connection works fine
2) it is a problem with my computer, not the host, since I have encountered
the same problem everywhere (libraries with password protected access,
private homes without password protected access etc.).

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and just installed a new Lexmark x4650 all-in-one. I can print perfectly when it is connected wirelessly (through the printer's internal connection to the network), but it won't recognize there is a scanner on it. If I connect it via USB, it works. I have tried disabling both the firewall (McAfee and Windows) and the wireless router. I can't see to find anyone who can print but not scan over the network.

I just updated from XP Media Center to Vista Media Center (via Home Premium), so I'm a tad new to the Vista version. ALL I want it for is to play music, I don't want pictures, TV, (I might want movies though), etc. Is there a way to remove menu items I don't want: i.e. Pictures, etc.. Also, what types of rips will MC recognize? mpg, avi, etc. The XP version seemed only to recognize .divx files.

I'm using Vista Ultimate with Fax and Scan. It won't recognize my Canone LIDE 30. All of my other programs that use the scanner do recognize it. I am looking for a sure thing ... a scanner that will work with Ultimate's Fax and Scan. I have heard that MS dropped TWAIN for this product and uses a different methodology.
I did have a network All In One but had nothing with problems using it with Vista. So now I'm thinking I'll just connect a scanner to the computer. I tried other software but I received a message that it couldn't access the modem because it was in use by another program ( not the case ).

I have a brand new HP laptop with running Vista Home Premium. USB devices I regularly use is my digital camera, my iPod, a bluetooth USB stick, my printer and my wireless mobile internet device. Every time I plug one of these in, I have to pray that it will be recognised. If it is a good day, and it is recognized, it does not show up in My Computer or in Windows Explorer and I cannot unplug it safely. With some of the devices, every time I plug it in, I get a pop-up which says it is updating the driver software, but it does not seem to make any difference.

How come this happens? I will be using Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium and it simply will not recognize any DVD that I put in the DVD drive. I hit restart and the same thing happens. Then I hit shut down and let it shut down and then restart it with the power button and the DVD-RW drive and any disc in it will be read perfectly. This seems odd and disconcerting.

what is the max amount of RAM that Vista 32 bit will recognize? I ask this because I have 3 gigs of RAM currently on my 32 bit computer and I want to go buy some more. I found a good stick for under 20 dollars that I don't mind spending on. If I make my RAM go from 3 gigs to 4 gigs, will it recognize the extra gig? I heard that it will not recognize 4 gigs but I also heard that it won't recognize anything more than 4 gigs.

this is my very last try to fix this problem! perhaps the solution is very simple, but i have no more ideas to solve it. i just want to use my usb-storages on my system. neither my 2,5''-usbhdd nor my sandisk cruzr usbstick is accesible. vista asks me to provide special drivers from the manufacturer. but there are no special usb-flash-drive-drivers. the mainboard is a asus p5k. the 64bit-system-drivers are installed. the joke: my very old 64mb-flashdrive works fine, as well as my digicam and the memorycard in my handy.

Would anybody know why Vista X64 SP1 does not recognize my EVGA 8800 GTX graphics card, I just got my EVGA X58 MB along with an Intel core i7 920 CPU and six gigs of corsair ddr3 dominator ram, I've installed Vista X64 SP1 and everything gets recognized except for the 8800 gtx graphics card. I've tried installing the 64 bit 182.06 nvidia drivers but without vista X64 recognizing the cards in the first place it's pointless, i just keep crashing when i reboot until I go into safe mode and remove the drivers.

He moved over to Intel and installed all of this into another box for me, and i put vista on it. However now, i am only seeing 1 cpu no matter what program i use(task manager, cpuid, pcwizard, HWMonitor) and the ram is running at ddr2-800 (pc6400).I updated the bios to beta version 0601, was running 0301(initial release).
