System Doesn't Recognize Graphics Card

Jun 16, 2009

My GeForce 9800 GTX is no longer recognized by my computer. As a result it doesn't recognize my monitor specifics either. When I look under Device Manager it doesn't have a listing for display adapters at all. There is a new entry under "Other devices" labeled "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)". When I reboot or "scan for new hardware" it trys to download drivers but fails. When I try to manually update the driver I get a message:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+

The system cannot find the filed specified."

I've tried everything including updating my BIOS, updating my mainboard drivers, downloading current WQHL certified graphics drivers, uninstalling any and all drivers related to NVIDIA, etc with no luck. I have a feeling there is something simple that I'm not doing but I have no idea what it is.I can't play any games because the system "Failed to find a suitable display device. Exiting program."

Does Not Boot If I Add The WinTV Card (or The PCTV Card)

Mar 23, 2008

Since I have upgraded the PC to Vista, I cannot use anymore WinTV-HVR-1300 (PCI) (Same issue with PCTV Dual hybrid - PCI-Express). Vista simply hangs while booting, the last driver loaded is crcdisck.sys. If I remove the WinTV card Vista works perfectly. With WinXP all was working fine. I tried to remove all the cards from the PC... the issue happens when I insert the WinTV or the PCTV card... Of course I also tried to change some settings in the BIOS without success.

Won't Recognize There Is A Scanner On It

Feb 6, 2009

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit and just installed a new Lexmark x4650 all-in-one. I can print perfectly when it is connected wirelessly (through the printer's internal connection to the network), but it won't recognize there is a scanner on it. If I connect it via USB, it works. I have tried disabling both the firewall (McAfee and Windows) and the wireless router. I can't see to find anyone who can print but not scan over the network.

Rips Will MC Recognize?

Jul 22, 2008

I just updated from XP Media Center to Vista Media Center (via Home Premium), so I'm a tad new to the Vista version. ALL I want it for is to play music, I don't want pictures, TV, (I might want movies though), etc. Is there a way to remove menu items I don't want: i.e. Pictures, etc.. Also, what types of rips will MC recognize? mpg, avi, etc. The XP version seemed only to recognize .divx files.

Fax & Scan Won't Recognize

Apr 14, 2008

I'm using Vista Ultimate with Fax and Scan. It won't recognize my Canone LIDE 30. All of my other programs that use the scanner do recognize it. I am looking for a sure thing ... a scanner that will work with Ultimate's Fax and Scan. I have heard that MS dropped TWAIN for this product and uses a different methodology.

I did have a network All In One but had nothing with problems using it with Vista. So now I'm thinking I'll just connect a scanner to the computer. I tried other software but I received a message that it couldn't access the modem because it was in use by another program ( not the case ).

OS Does Not Recognize USB Plug Ins

I have a brand new HP laptop with running Vista Home Premium. USB devices I regularly use is my digital camera, my iPod, a bluetooth USB stick, my printer and my wireless mobile internet device. Every time I plug one of these in, I have to pray that it will be recognised. If it is a good day, and it is recognized, it does not show up in My Computer or in Windows Explorer and I cannot unplug it safely. With some of the devices, every time I plug it in, I get a pop-up which says it is updating the driver software, but it does not seem to make any difference.

Max Amount Of RAM For 32bit, Recognize?

what is the max amount of RAM that Vista 32 bit will recognize? I ask this because I have 3 gigs of RAM currently on my 32 bit computer and I want to go buy some more. I found a good stick for under 20 dollars that I don't mind spending on. If I make my RAM go from 3 gigs to 4 gigs, will it recognize the extra gig? I heard that it will not recognize 4 gigs but I also heard that it won't recognize anything more than 4 gigs.

Would Not Recognize Desktop Network

Mar 23, 2008

I have recently purchased a laptop with Vista Home Premium, only to discover that it wouldn't recognize my desktop machine on the network. The desktop is Windows Media Center Edition (XP Pro). I've installed the Topical Link-Layer Discovery update on the XP machine, and about once out of every three visits to the "Network" through Explorer, my desktop will show up, but trying to access it (ever) will give an error that essentially says "Sorry, chump, I asked DNS about that PC, but there's no record of it existing." (Except, with a Brooklyn accent.)

I'm fairly tech-savvy, so I've done my googling. I've tried enabling the sharing options on the Vista machine, setting up accounts with the same user ID & password on both machines - the standard response to this problem. Unfortuneately, none of these things have solved this issue. I've got software (source code - I'm a programmer) and media on my desktop that I really need to get to from my laptop.
