Never Re-Activate After Installation. if you have to reinstall Windows XP you normally will have to reactivate too. Well not anymore. Just copy wpa.dbl after you activated the first time. It is located in the WINDOWSsystem32 folder. Now if you reinstall Windows XP just copy the file back and you're up and running again.
I read something on another forum about if you are using x86 and want to upgrade to x64 you can use the same key to activate both . Any truth in that at all ? I have OEM and not boxed retail.
i have Windows Vista Ultimate. I activated it once. Now i am going to buy a new PC and i want to activate my Vista on this new PC. Is it possible, or i have to buy a new Vista for that?

I have one situation I cant seem to figure out. Ive followed all the steps for activating the hidden admin account on vista by going into the admin command prompt and putting in the command and then logging off, but when i log off, its still just my account on there..when i go under the list of user accounts it says mine and then one "unknown". Any ideas on how I can really activate the account?
Alright I bought a Toshiba Satellite A100/A105 Laptop. Well when I bought it, I tryed to get Windows onto my Laptop and did. So I could not Activate windows.

I had to reinstall Vista due to malware that I could not get off my computer. I could not do a repair, and now Vista is new on my system. The problem is that I now cannot activate it, and I get a notice that says that I need to enter a new number. I do not think that I need to, but I don't know how to reactivate. I called Microsoft, but the person (honestly) hung up on me.
I was using my purchased Vista Ultimate just fine on my first PC. But I just upgraded the motherboard and pretty much everything else. Now it's a new PC. So I took my Vista install CD, installed it on my new machine. Now I can't activate it. It won't let me saying it's already been activated. I recall someone told me that Vista activation is tied to the initial hardware you install it on. Is this really the case? If so, there has to be a resolution to this as Microsoft can't be that stupid to restrict you like this. I mean how am I supposed to upgrade my fing PC!? What do I do? I don't want to spend $60 on a support ticket. I tried to put in my PID which also now it's saying has expired!
So I just upgraded from Windows XP to Vista x64. Since I got the retail packaged upgrade, I have both the x64 and x32 DVDs. I think I know the answer already, but, I take it that licensing would not allow me to activate both the x32 and x64 versions on the same PC, or seperate PCs for that matter?

Any help would be appreciated in terms of getting around this or how to contact Microsoft to get this crap resolved for my home PC.
how to activate Windows Defender? I have tried all the assistance listed in this group and still cannot get Defender to work! One piece of advice was to log on to the C prompt as system administrator? I tried to right click on the prompt but there is nothing on the drop down menu that allows me to do this.
WARNING!! Vista Windows Genuine Activation (WGA) Problems: Genuine Microsoft Software Advantage. There is a problem with Microsoft's WGA servers and they are not allowing Vista to be activated as Genuine.
Do not do anything that would require you to reactivate or validate Vista. EX: Windows Updates, Hot Fixes, Activation, etc. Wait a week before trying again to give Microsoft a chance to sort through the problem. If you do not, you will be left with a Vista that is considered not Genuine. If your 30 day trial period is almost up, or you are already in Reduced Functionality Mode, then see: - Read Tutorial

the screensaver wont activate in vista basic on dell vostro laptop it was working before,it should come on after 5 min, have tried all the screen savers and as soon as i try to preview them they go on for a second and then go off i dont have any wireless devices connected i did have a keyboard and mouse but uninstalled them and went back to the usb wired ones ive tried getting the screen savers to work by leaving on the 'Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter update' and turning it off (it uninstalled when i got rid of mouse and keyboard, i tried disabling the touchpad, i disabled the hid thing in services msc, i also tried just using the turn off display in power options but that doesnt work either, i even tried reenabling everything in windows features, and i tried rolling back the graphics card driver, but none of these things work i am totally at a loss because the screen just stays on so i have to just shut down and restart the pc everytime i want to use it and this always brings up problems with modem and so on i also read somewhere that Dell Media Experience, Power DVD and ehtray.exe cause problems but i have none of these running at startup.

I have a wireless network in my home. I just purchased a Sony laptop with Vista Home business installed. When I try to get in Internet Explorer, many times I am unable. I am running two computers, both with vista ultimate. I installed/finished the 32 bit version just last week, and now i keep getting a pop up telling me I need to activate windows and change my cd key. I originally bought ultimate a year ago. how ever I do not want to go out and spend another 300$. the windows website tells me I can buy another key ( I assume for less) but everytime I plug in my CD key, I am told that the copy of windows i have is a server copy.
first enable the"Run" button in the start menu in the "Taskbar Properties" here's a work around to Activate Vista Build 5219,5231,5270,5308,(or earlier)and later maybe.. Start > Run > msconfig > Permit Folder "Services" uncheck the "Software Licensing Service" uncheck the "SL UI Notification Service" Apply Close Restart Your machine will then tell you, this machine is unlicensed.
I have a Sony Vaio VGC-LA1. Originally it was running Windows XP Media Centre 2005. I upgraded it to Vista Home Premium using a Vista Express Upgrade Disc sent to me from Sony. this included all the relevant updated drivers and applications. A few weeks ago the HDD died and had to be replaced. I've reinstalled XP from my recovery disc, then upgraded again to Vista using Vista Express Disc. However I can't activate Vista as it says its already in use and I require another license. How can I activate it?
I recently formatted my hard drive so I could set up a RAID array. Windows Vista is now asking me to activate it again, but it wont accept my product key because it says it is an upgrade edition. I already upgraded from Windows XP to Windows Vista, I don't know why it wont accept the key. Is there anything I can do?
I cant activate Vista ultimate 6.6000 build. when i am activating operating system it showing error 0xC004E003 and when i am trying changing product key it is also not working and trying phone but there no option for that
here's my problem I installed Vista 64 onto my computer and after it reboots it goes through bios and then nothing. I get a screen with a flickering dash - like that. Now Im thinking it is a HDD issue or driver issue. Bios detects it and my dvd burner. There both Sata and the HDD is a WD 250gb Sata. After Bios goes through its check I get no HDD activate the light doesn't flicker or anything. Now when I boot from the VISTA cd it detects the drive and also see the installation as well.
Ive also tried installing it another way with my old DVD Rom which is IDE because I heard if you do a fresh install that it has a hard time detecting with sata which is the HDD if you have 2 sata connected. Still the same thing i get the flicker. Also I did partion and formated the HDD as well. Im waiting for my friend to bring me the driver disk to install the Mobo drivers and hopefully that resolves it. Also I would like to add everything was working fine before I did this I just wanted to to a house cleaning and wipe my drive. . Bios is also been flashed and up to date....currently for space issues when I was tinkering with the Mobo I have a Gforce 6800GS in there but what I usually use is a His Radeon 4870 just to big to work around with.
im at the desktop and im trying to do the activation i get a error code 0xc004e003 iv tryed everthing and i even get the same error when im offline to i have dial-up as that i cant get hi-speed and theres no other way to. i have the keycode
