I thought there is supposed to be an 'Enable Transparency' option in Personalize > Window Color and Appearance. I don't see one. Is there a setting elsewhere that would make this option disappear?

I have enabled "Allow hybrid sleep" in the advanced power settings and if i type 'powercfg -a' in command prompt i am told the following sleep states are available. Standby (S3) Hibernate Hybrid Sleep
Yet when i go to power options i get -
Do nothing
Sleep
Hibernate
I have read of loads of people who can't Hibernate because of Hybrid Sleep, i appear to have the opposite. How do i enable my computer to use Hybrid Sleep please.
I am running Norton Ghost 14.0 under Windows Vista Home Premium with the lovely SP1. There use to be an option when you right click a v2i file on the windows explorer, this option said Mount and I think there was a Open option too. The one I really need is the Mount one. Anyway, this option is gone, I am not sure if it is the SP1, I have tried context menu editors and viewers and the shell registry entry is there and it is not disable by the "legacy" entry option on the registry, I believe it has the right command too, attached is my registry entry and a screen shot of my context menu:...............
View 6 Replies View RelatedThis could start at any time apparently but once it does my whole computer freezes up for 9 seconds exactly, then it's fine for about 50 seconds or so, then frozen for 9 seconds, etc. This will repeat until I reboot the computer. I somehow manged to fix the problem and had completely forgotten about it until the other day.
I wanted to hibernate my computer but the options weren't there so I found this page and entered the commands into the Command Prompt: How to Re-enable Missing Hibernate Option in Windows Vista? - Tweaking with Vishal
It sort of fixed my hibernation, now the Start Menu power button would hibernate, but more importantly the 9 second freezes started up again. I quickly ran the Hibernation File Cleaner in Disk Cleanup which is apparently what removed the hibernation option in the first place, but no luck, hibernation was now gone and the freezes still continued....................
I just installed SP1 and now the "Search" option is missing from my Start Menu. I checked in the Taskbar and Start Menu settings in the control panel and the options are checked. I'm running Vista Home Premium on a Gateway GT5238E with dual processor and 2 gig RAM. Is anyone else having this problem?

Attached is a screenshot of my desktop. The windows transparency is great, but I'd like to get rid of some of the "smokey-ness" of the taskbar.
how can i get a full nice transparency? Because i HATE glass transparency, it's like i'm blind and see all wrong O_ò. So i disabled it, lol. I will better like a full transparency, is there any way to get it on a Vista Home Premium 32 bit?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIm new to vista but really like it alot except that my install does not have the thumbnails off the task bar or transparency. I have Vista Home Basic 32bit. I installed this the same time as a friend of mine we both bought the same version for vista (At a discount of course) His install has these options but mine does not. I have posted else where without any real answers to my questions, most everyone said make sure your video graphics drivers are installed which of course they are. I have of course Activated my install and ran all the nec. updates including SP1. Is there a way i can tweak this think to have these featurs that i like so much?

Windows and appearence is only showing Basic. If you can't get into Windows Colour and Appearence how can you Enable Transparency,? This means applications such as Dreamscene are unable to run.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows Vista Ultimate with "Aero" and I'd like to turn off the transparency of the taskbar and perhaps also change its color (currently two shades of gray) without disabling "Aero" and without changing the transparency or color effects of other windows. I notice that maximizing a window makes the taskbar appear opaque, but then I can't see the desktop. I'd like the taskbar to be opaque all the time. I also notice that using a background that's black at the bottom can make the taskbar appear opaque, but that prevents you from having fun with different backgrounds.

I'm wanting to put my computer in hibernate and I click on the start menue but the option is no longer there. I have the option to sleep, shut down, lock and so on but no longer have hibernate. Whats up with that ? Does anyone have a clue?

I have evn tried phoneing Microsoft but they want $80.00. 2 - Crap starts happening right after. what crap? Some programs such as tuneup utillites,psp video converter cannot work. Programs that can speed up the system such as programs (that disable some programs to start during pc startup) CRASH now.
3 - Decides to turn on the UAC on again. When you right click on a program you get the box that opens giving you all kinds of options; run as administrator, scan with, etc. What do you call that box? I am running Vista, but a friend is running XP. She used to have listed in that box the option to scan with her anti virus program, but she no longer does. Is there a way, in XP, to add this to that box?

One option I did hear about is buying a computer with VISTA installed and with the option of downgrading (free) to Windows XP Pro.
The file Send E-Mail option is not present from the Office Button in Excel, is not available from the Office Button in Word, and is present and functional from the Office Button in PowerPoint. I use Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, Windows Mail and the MS-Office Home & Student 2007 suite.

If I try and open the file, it says, unable to open, wrong kind of file. I saw someone elses post that said to go into start, all programs, accesories, run. View 7 Replies View RelatedSuddenly, my computer freezed (just like it has been doing for some time now). When I restarted it, the computer asked for the Vista DVD, so that it could repair some files (I couldn't even boot into Safe Mode). I put the DVD inside the drive, and choose the "Repair your computer" option, but it reports that no Vista installation is found...
I then boot into the Rescue and Recovery environment (that is a Thinkpad suite, located in another partition of the disk) to see what's going on. The System Information detects everything except the Hard Drive (it reports "Not Available" for the fields "Hard disk free space" and "Hard disk capacity"). I also can't see the harddisk in the option to backup the files to a pen (the pen is recognized, though). Just to be sure, I run PC Doctor and my hard disk passes all tests.
I'm new to the Forum so I hope I'm doing this correctly. Anyway, initially I was trying to create a mailing group, but could not see a choice for that option in my Contacts folder. Turns out it was set on "Pictures and Videos" and I read, in this Forum, how to fix that so it would show my list of contacts, and would therefore show the choice for setting up a group. That worked fine. My problem is - my changes don't seem to want to stay! For instance, today I was working in my picture folders, and then when I went back into Windows Mail and clicked on Contacts, it was back to showing "Pictures and Videos!" Why won't it stay on Contacts after I configure the folder? I do click "Apply" and then "OK," but that doesn't seem to make a difference. It keeps changing back.
