Vista Ultimate (non SP1) on desktop PC approved to run Vista. Vista Business (non SP1) on laptop approved to run Vista. When desktop had XP and the laptop had Vista I had no trouble sharing files/folders. Right after Vista was installed on the desktop (before a random reboot) I could share files/folders between both Vista PCs. Now I can't share files/folders. I have enabled file and printer sharing on the desktop. I have added a user to the desktop with the same "name" as the user on the laptop. Both computers are part of the same Workgroup. I have set up several shares: Music, Video, Storage (docs & programs, etc.) and can't access them from the laptop through the network share, so I also can't map the drives. If memory serves me I also allowed 'Everyone' share permission also. And UAC is disabled on both machines. The The UPNP music and video files share fine. One more thing, I am fully updated up to SP1. Unless SP1 is known to resolve this issue (I've read about this before but can't seem to fix my problem with it) I won't be installing it.
I have aero turned on and the transparency works for all application windows but my taskbar is just black. it's not transparent or anything. i know that when a windows is maximized then it will turn black but i don't have any windows or anything open and it is still black.
Im new to vista but really like it alot except that my install does not have the thumbnails off the task bar or transparency. I have Vista Home Basic 32bit. I installed this the same time as a friend of mine we both bought the same version for vista (At a discount of course) His install has these options but mine does not. I have posted else where without any real answers to my questions, most everyone said make sure your video graphics drivers are installed which of course they are. I have of course Activated my install and ran all the nec. updates including SP1. Is there a way i can tweak this think to have these featurs that i like so much?
I thought there is supposed to be an 'Enable Transparency' option in Personalize > Window Color and Appearance. I don't see one. Is there a setting elsewhere that would make this option disappear?
Recently installed Ult 64 bit, all working great except Aero refuses to run. WE Index As you can see it should run. Personalise,.. Windows and appearence is only showing Basic. If you can't get into Windows Colour and Appearence how can you Enable Transparency,? This means applications such as Dreamscene are unable to run.
I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate with "Aero" and I'd like to turn off the transparency of the taskbar and perhaps also change its color (currently two shades of gray) without disabling "Aero" and without changing the transparency or color effects of other windows. Is this possible? Are there options within Windows or free 3rd party apps that can do this? I've seen this question posed before but with no satisfactory answer.
I notice that maximizing a window makes the taskbar appear opaque, but then I can't see the desktop. I'd like the taskbar to be opaque all the time. I also notice that using a background that's black at the bottom can make the taskbar appear opaque, but that prevents you from having fun with different backgrounds.
My C: drive is that full I am having problems backing up, etc..I have deleted as many programs as I feel comfortable with via "Programs & features" and directly thru the folders. I currently have 1.21 GB free of 314 GB on the C: drive and 118 GB of 203 GB on the D: drive.
Due to a very long and unsuccessful attempt to get Office Enterprise to work properly on a new ACER (VISTA Home Premium) computer that came c/w a pre-installed trial version of Office 2007 as per Office technical support I need to do a clean install of VISTA. My problem is that the only option I have is to re-install the ACER factory load c/w the trial version and all of the other useless stuff. I am contemplating buying either a full or oem version of VISTA Home Premium, Format C, get rid of the hidden partition and start from scratch. What is the difference between oem and full other than the price.. Advice will be appreciated, this is my fourth computer but I have never needed to do anything this drastic before.
1 month from purchase my C drive was full all 68GB ??? no music, no videos. I use disk clean-up and a miserly 3mb are cleared. I search the drive for every file >1kb giving the total of all files hidden and not as 16GB. I try the computer tools/storage to ascertain why it???s full, disk rescan. I try number of things but nothing. The next day I reboot the laptop and as if by magic I have 52GB space capacity. 1 month I am at the time point 1GB spare capacity, I use TreeSize that tells me I have files totally 17GB. Why is Vista telling me I have no space left?
I have Home Premium Vista, 64bit and 688GB hard drive(size when checking C: drive). I recently checked and it showed less than half full. Then a few days ago I tried saving a file and I got disk full message. I checked the c: drive again and it showed full- no space available, which should not be. I did a defrag, check disk and that did not work. I do remember seeing a warning around that time, but it vanished before I read it all. I think it said a file was not working or was corrupted and may have said something about "Catalyst". I found Catalyst Control Center on my computer, but that seems to be ATI card (graphics card?). I did delete a bunch of junk so it can now function, but latest check still shows only 72 MB available and that can't be.
I have a dual boot system with W7 on a second HDD. I am trying to make a full PC Backup without backing up my W7 disk (because it fails the backup). The second HDD is checked in the backup settings screen, but greyed out, so I cannot uncheck it. It is not checked for file backup.
How do I exclude this disk from the Full PC Backup?
Due to an Office Enterprise issue that can only be resolved with a clean re-install of Vista on an ACER computer rather than re-installing the ACER factory load I have bought a Full version of VISTA Home Preimum so that I can do a CLEAN install. I have 3 partitions on my HD C, D & hidden, the hidden contains the factory load. My plan is to run a full back up to D as well as copies of my files. I will also make copies of my files off computer. I do have the ACER recovery disks but I hope to never have to use them. When I am all backed up I would like to format C, get rid of the hidden partition, keep D, put the VISTA DVD into the drive and do a clean install of VISTA on C. I could be wrong but I think that it would be best to format before putting the VISTA disk into the drive so there is no confusion between product keys etc. this is not an upgrade it is the same version that ACER supplied.
my C drive went form 125gb free to completely full in about an hour. I did all the usual malware and virus scans nothing shows up. Where do I start? Vista premium home edition.
I am SO bored, because everything in Vista must Allow or Deny. And even though i ALLOW, ME, the ADMINISTRATOR, THE OWNER from the Computer has the acess Denied. Thats dumb, i think. i was wondering, how can i Take Ownership from my WHOLE computer and have the Full Permission from just everything. In a way to grant Acess to whole Notebook. How do i do it? I know its possible cause in a Modified Windows Version it was like that.
On vista though you can't run dos in full screen So I really wanted to load a version of Windows 98 on to a new partition on my new computer. I created a new partition and a windows 98 startup cd and re started the computer. I ran fdisk and set the new partition active and attempted to load Win98. For some reason unknown to me 98 wouldn't install properly so I gave up. I restarted and deleted the partition through fdisk. I then set the Vista partiton active and now the computer won't load vista at all, only a black screen with a flashing cursor.
I am trying to figure out what to do when my backup location can no longer accept new backups because it is full. I tried to do a search but the "full" just brings up references to the Full Backup you can do with Windows Vista Ultimate. Any one know where I could find out best practices for doing backups. For example, do I reformat the drive my backup is on so I can do another backup? Or do I buy a bigger drive, and continue doing this as the months go by? Do I swap for another drive to continue doing my backups, and just keep buying more drives as they get filled? Do I hope that Moore's Law also applies to hard drive storage?
I have an Acer laptop pretty new with windows 7 on it its a 32 bit version. When I go to look at my system it says to me that I have 4 gig of ram but in brackets it is also saying that I am able to use only 2.99 of it. I have done some research and apparently I need a 64 bit version of windows which I downloaded but my computer is X86 based so is there anyway round this? Aprogram that might change something or am I stuck with 32bit windows then?
My recycle bin is full!!! I didn't do it, I don't even know what some of the stuff is. A ton of stuff was put in it on June 19 and I wasn't even home then. In fact, there are a couple things in there that were in my documents (lists of medications, etc.) that I know I didn't put in there.
When I delete a file the icon of the bin doesn't show me that the bin is full, as it used to show. Also at the specific moment the "empty recycle bin" command is gray and doesn't give me the option to empty the bin. When I right click and "open" the bin, automatically the icon becomes full again!
I wonder why this is happening! It is the first time as a long time user that I face such a weird problem.
I have to tell that I checked my pc for virus, malware and ad-ware and it is clean.
I want to delete the full PC complete backup from my C: drive now that I have an external drive, but cannot find it. Where does Vista put the backups on C:? How do I delete it?
After completing a system recovery, I am unable to get a sharp full screen picture any more. I have a 20" lcd and the best I can do is about 8" before it starts to pixilate.
To get widescreen I have to zoom and that makes it even worse. I have an nvidia geforce 6150se card, and the tv card is a haupauge wintv hvr-1600, vista home premium ,computer is an HP pavilion m8000n.
I have downloaded all updates I can find but to no avail. The sample movies that come with media will not play any better. Can someone help. Miss my pc/vcr.
I have Vista Ultimate installed on one of three HD partitions of my laptop. I want to merge the partitions into 1 partition.
For this purpose, I will use the Complete PC Backup utility, delete the existing partitions, create a single partition, and restore the computer image created earlier.
Would this be the correct procedure, or the utility is going to recreate the three partitions and my work would be useless?
I have a DELL laptop running VISTA. I have noticed that my D (recovery ) drive is almost full. I have gone through the routine of trying to erase all unnecessary files several times. The drive is still almost completely full despite all my efforts. The wastebasket is empty, I have deleted all duplicated files from, nothing works. The computer seems to only use the D drive and the C drive is more than 70% free space.
Any application like a game or a presentation wont use the entire monitor! It centers itself into a square and leaves a huge gap on each side. I cant take a screenshot so I will try to draw an example. Imagine the white is the application and the picture is my entire monitor. I dont know what else to do. I've updated the drivers and nothing seems to work! It's a HP Compaq 6710b, I haven't changed any display hardware. I've changed the RAM that's it.
