Any application like a game or a presentation wont use the entire monitor! It centers itself into a square and leaves a huge gap on each side. I cant take a screenshot so I will try to draw an example. Imagine the white is the application and the picture is my entire monitor. I dont know what else to do. I've updated the drivers and nothing seems to work! It's a HP Compaq 6710b, I haven't changed any display hardware. I've changed the RAM that's it.
I have a DOS application that cannot be converted to windows and it works fine on all versions of windows presently. I can run it on Vista and it works fine except that Vista won't let it run in a full screen mode. Anyone have an idea as to how this could be done?
i have had this for a while, and i have no idea what it is, just a little white square in top left corner of screen. doesnt appear in full screen apps or windows, only on desktop (even if i change pic) when i have no programs running the only thing in task manager - applications is ASUS ACPI Cneter could it be that? what is that? doesnt affect comp in any way just annoying seeing it there
That devious trick did not work for me. Here is what I did;
1. Create a pps ( many slides included ). 2. Open new ppt > Insert > Object > click Create from file >Browse and locate my pps > OK 3. Resize my pps to cover the whole screen, set Animations as Automatically after 3 seconds. 4. Save it as pps. When I tried to view, it only show the 1st slide and exited. What step did I missed
I have gotten used to keeping my Windows task bar at the top of the screen instead of the bottom. I find this more convenient because itis like the menus and is a shorter reach than when at the bottom. However, there are some applications that open at their old window coordinates, but goof it up by not "knowing" the task bar is using the top of the screen. It is as if the apps remember where they were in "visible" screen oordinates and then restore their location in full screen coordinates.
So the apps end up above the visible screen and have to be moved back by using the keyboard since the window controls are off screen. If the app is opened and closed a few times without bringing it back into the visible screen, the entire window can end up off screen. You would think that of all apps, MS apps would not have this bug. But Visio 2003 seems to have it.
The wendows defender stopped working. The antivirus I have is gone ( Kasparasky), The Admisistrative tools wendow is empty. I can't start the office any more. most of the start manue applications are gone includug the system restore. That happened just few hours ago, when the system showed me the blue screen telling me that the system is Halted by a memory problem. Can any one explain what happened. I have been using windows system for years and never had any problem like this. I have invisted a lot of money with this system to avaoid such problems
Why do I get black picture after I have pressed PrtSc button? Of course it shouldn't be black and it happens only when the screen is on full screen mode (for an example videos, games etc.). It also doesn't matters if I am using just PrtSc or Alt + PrtSc - the result is the same. It looks like this ---> http://img525.imageshack.us/i/blackba.jpg/ (and, no, I didn't painted it black).
On vista though you can't run dos in full screen So I really wanted to load a version of Windows 98 on to a new partition on my new computer. I created a new partition and a windows 98 startup cd and re started the computer. I ran fdisk and set the new partition active and attempted to load Win98. For some reason unknown to me 98 wouldn't install properly so I gave up. I restarted and deleted the partition through fdisk. I then set the Vista partiton active and now the computer won't load vista at all, only a black screen with a flashing cursor.
After completing a system recovery, I am unable to get a sharp full screen picture any more. I have a 20" lcd and the best I can do is about 8" before it starts to pixilate.
To get widescreen I have to zoom and that makes it even worse. I have an nvidia geforce 6150se card, and the tv card is a haupauge wintv hvr-1600, vista home premium ,computer is an HP pavilion m8000n.
I have downloaded all updates I can find but to no avail. The sample movies that come with media will not play any better. Can someone help. Miss my pc/vcr.

Up until 2 weeks ago when I was browsing and hit F11, the display would go full screen. No menus, no toolbars, no taskbars, nothing. Now when I hit F11, all of my tabs, the address bar, & the menu bar remain. I'd like them gone again. I've read a bit about auto-hide, but that seems to only work on the taskbar.
I do not get the full screen output on my TV when connected via HDMI. This is very frustrating. The TV itself works fine in full screen (1080p, 720p, 480p, etc). I DO get full screen output on any Linux o/s I test it with, via hdmi. However, I prefer to use Vista instead in order to use MCE and the plugins I have (Netflix, Joost, etc plus MCE remote). I duplicatedt this before and after upgrading to Vista SP1. I've duplicated this with many WHQL certified NVidia drivers as well. Literally at least 5-10 different driver versions for my 8400M GT card.
I cannot figure out why it is not showing full screen output, but I can confirm this happens in Vista only, not Linux (did not and will not test in XP). My index score in Vista is 5.0. It was actually 5.3 at one time, then dropped to 5.1 and 5.0 over few months span...........
Whether I am look at google maps, or I am at my home page (and this is just a couple), in different areas on my screen there are RED X's in squares of which I can not open. How can I get rid of these so that I can see everything.
Do you know if there is anyway i could play a game without the full screen feature? I want to do other jobs on the side without having to exit full screen so i save time.
it was working but stopped-when viewing on line video the full screen button when clicked takes me to full screen gray screen using media player 11 vista business I tried rebooting and making media player the default program
I’m running Vista x64 with a 24” wide screen HD monitor with 1920x1200 native resolution. (Check my System Specs for all my hardware.) However, I can only get full screen with 1280x720. Any higher and my screen shifts to the left and I lose about 1/3 to ½ of my available viewing area. Anything on the left side of my task bar is gone, including the Windows (start) button. If I go to my native 1920x1200 res the text is so small it’s virtually unreadable (along, again, with losing a third of my viewing area). What’s the purpose of having this monitor if I can’t get it to display the full screen with readable text? I’m guessing I must be doing something wrong.
When I open up a new window, it normally opens up at less than a full screen. Is there an option for having the new window open up as a full (maximize) screen?
Everytime i try to shutdown my VAIO it goes through the process and at the last moment i get a full blue screen it says dumping physical memory and automatically restarts. The only way i can switch it off is to force a shutdown by holding the power button. When i do this then every time i restart it, ittells me it wasn't shut down properly.
When i run full screen games, one minute im playing the next its minimized to the task bar, it does it.. maybe every 5-10 minutes ,Any solution to what's causing it to minimize? ive attached a dxdiag (ive hidden my name)
I've been trying to increase the full-screen resolution of 'visualize' without much success. I've openned up the the 64-bit version of WMP and changed the resolution in Tools - Plug-ins - Options - Visualization - Battery - Properties, but even in WMP that doesn't work and obviously doesn't work in VMC. Has anyone had an success in changing the resolution?
I programs, mainly my games, my full screen games, keep minimizing at random. Espically the sims 2. It hasn't ever happened before. I would start the game then the title front page would come up then it would disappear but my machine would still run as if it were there. It would never come up. My online mmorpg will continously minimize. I will click on them but they only maximize for a few seconds before minimizing again. I've tried everything i know: Running full scans on my computer with nothing showing up, getting rid of mulitiple virus protections. Ending some start up programs. Udating various thing. It's not a virus and it's not malware. I just don't know what it is anymore. I've tried googling the problem and seeing if i could find an answer that would help, it didn't. I have tried a tool made by microsoft to see if it could find the problem, it found nothing at all wrong with it. I don't know what else to do. It's never done it before. I heard that an eariler version of AVG (my virus protection) could cause it, but i uninstalled and reinstalled the latest version.
When I try and watch a utube video full screen...the screen just goes blank...how do I fix this? I have a inspiron 1720 and bought it to watch utube!!!! Please say it can be sorted!!
When trying to launch games that run in full-screen it starts up, then minimize itself, leading me back to the desktop. It still runs in the background apparently, but it will minimize right back down when I click it again. No error message at all. It used to work fine until about a month ago. I have no idea what caused this and how to fix it.
I've been using Vista x64 for about 4 months now and in that time I have been having this problem where Vista sometimes steels the focus from fullscreen apps such as games. I run a game, the screen goes black for a second (which it does in most games before the intro), then the game minimizes to the system tray and I'm back at the desktop. If i then try to bring the game back to fullscreen (using the mouse or ALT + TAB) it immedially minimizes to the system tray again, some games even crash. In the "micro second" that the game stays maximized I can see that the game has indeed loaded correctly, cos if I maximize the game a couple of times I see that the game is proceeding with the load. Sometimes a restart helps, at other times a reinstall is needed. Some games I just can't run at all, and some runs fine all the time.
All drivers, firmware and the BIOS are of the latest versions. I completely removed my Nvidia display driver using "CCleaner" restarted and installed the latest one. I tryed removing the "focus steel" ability from Vista using a reg file I found some where (I forget where).
i have both Vista and XP in my system with Vista in C drive and XP in D drive..i want to work in full screen mode of XP.. but in vista i cant do it...So each time i have to reboot my sytem and get into XP to do so..so if i can load already installed XP on my vista, it would be helpful...can anyone help me out..remember that i have installed XP and Vista already and i am not using any Virtual PC kind.
ForceWare 175.80 Full screen 3d gaming resets/ignores my gamma settings... Haven't had that problem in past with ATi x1900xtx card... Gamma settings will work if game is running in window mode, but it hurts the performance of the game, soo i'm looking for a solution... Games are: Counter-strike source and Team Fortress 2 OS: Vista x64
In order to watch HD video on my iPod Touch I have tried many HD video to iPod converters, but there are always errors (like the black frame). Recently I found a good way to convert HD video to iPod Touch with an iPod Touch video converter and the special parameters setting. If you also want to put your favorite videos on iPod Touch just follow these steps:
"Add" video files
Video Parameter Settings Use the data in the picture below to adjust parameters..........
1. When opening a message from the message list, the new window opens in "non full screen" mode. I have to then click on the maximize button. How do I default to full screen for new windows in general?
2. When I open a message and then hit the delete button, it takes me automatically to the next message, I want it to go back to the message list. I know in outlook where you can set these settings but can't find it with Windows mail.
I have just puchased my first Windows Vista computer - an HP laptop. I have purchased at leat five laptops since 2000 so I am familiar with setup and comfortable with installations etc. I have three questions here.
1. My last computer had Windows XP and an 80 gb hard drive with 70 gb full - After copying the data only (55 GB) to my new 250 gb hard drive I have only 107 GB remaining of the 222 GB C drive partition. I have not yet added many programs. That tells me that Vista must be using 50-60 GB or more of the drive. Can that be correct?
2. My new computer takes 5-6 minutes to start up. After two minutes I get the welcome screen. Then the monitor goes black for a full two minutes before continuing the startup process. Is this normal for Vista?
3. Occasionally the monitor goes dark for a few seconds and a window pops up saying the display driver has failed but is back. Is this normal?
I certainly gained no speed with this new computer. There are many things I like about Vista. Since I have no previous experience with owning it I am trying to sort out if this computer is a lemon that should be returned or if I should just put up with the downside.
