May take the plunge on setting up Vista 64 on a new drive. I have 8gb installed currently in this XP box (in anticipation of Vista 64), and so was wondering if it is critical to remove two modules before installing Vista 64. What do you know?

View 9 Replies View RelatedBoth pre and post SP1 whenever I install a game my memory usage starts to climb. It usually hovers around 30-33% at idle. While installing it eventually peaks @ 99-100% and will drop to about 95-97% after the install is finished. For the life of me I can't figure out whats causing it.
I just installed lost planet and had the same issue. It happened with COD4, Supreme commander, and Crysis too. I've added screnshots from during the install, post install and after I reboot (because the memory does not go back to normal until then).
I would like to check the memory for errors BEFORE I load/install Windows Vista Home Premium x64 to avoid install hang-ups. Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

I've looked at Western Digital My Book World Edition but it has problems with Vista x64 (drops the network several times a day. WD's support says they've never tested it with any 64-bit OS. Worked just fine before adding the Vista 64 client. Plus its data transfer rate was abysmal). I've looked at Buffalo LinkStation and Netgear and Iomega. All have reviews ranging from great to junk. Would anyone care to post their opinions?
what would you recommend me to buy? I really need some good ones, but not that expensive!

When I try to install additional 2Gb, I get a blue-screen every time I boot (some blue screens have an IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL, most have no error msg). Is there a way to determine if my installation of Vista already has this installed? I've already checked the Control Panel/Windows Update/Review Update History, it's not in there, I thought it may be in the core install on the DVD?

I am trying to install the disk on my laptop and at the end of the install I get this message: "1. Failed to install ISKernal Files. Make sure you have appropriate privileges on this machine."
My machine is not networked. I am the only one who uses it. Sprint and Blackberry support do not have this error message and say it must be Microsoft. And of course I am a month beyond my 90-day free support.
Everytime i try and install sp1 for vista ulitmate 64 bit i allways get a white or black screen when it reaches installing stage 2 of 3.

View 5 Replies View RelatedVista told me on Monday that my computer had new updates available. So, being the normal computer guy I am, I looked to see what they were. Mostly Security stuff for the system. So, I said sure lets update. Well, in the process, Vista turned off my system restore, and now takes about 10 min to come up after a reboot or shutdown. When I try to run or load programs, the system hangs up, and task manager has it at 100pct CPU use. Now I am going to do a total format and reinstall. My printer does not even work correctly now and it is only 3 months old. It ran great when I first got it. I think I am going to load up vista again and totally turn off the updates so it does not even temp me. OMGosh I don't want to but only thing I can do. TY Microsoft for wasting yet another weekend on redoing my computer.

I have a 64x vista labtop (os) and today there was a 64x update. So I updated and bout 4mins or less blue screen, tested again, got blue screen. Did this multiple times. I decided to test if something just went wrong so I went into safe mode and uninstalled those 3 updates.

I asked and was told that only under 64 bit windows, will the available memory be 4GB. When I upgraded to windows 7, I chosed 64 bit, but the available memory shown in the system is still 3.3 GB. Why is this and is there a way to make the full 4GB available? It's possible that my video card is using RAM instead of its own RAM. I have noticed an svchost.eve process runs each time I reboot which seems to bloat constantly although when I close it down it only frees up about 800MB, what's happening to the rest of my 8GB??? When I launch Task Manager it says I'm only using 10% Memory but free RAM sits at 0?!?!
