I have a 64x vista labtop (os) and today there was a 64x update. So I updated and bout 4mins or less blue screen, tested again, got blue screen. Did this multiple times. I decided to test if something just went wrong so I went into safe mode and uninstalled those 3 updates.

So, I see that part (if not all) of the problem is bad drivers. Why is this so and how can I fix it? I have a Gateway M-Series laptop (about 10 months old).
Vista told me on Monday that my computer had new updates available. So, being the normal computer guy I am, I looked to see what they were. Mostly Security stuff for the system. So, I said sure lets update. Well, in the process, Vista turned off my system restore, and now takes about 10 min to come up after a reboot or shutdown. When I try to run or load programs, the system hangs up, and task manager has it at 100pct CPU use. Now I am going to do a total format and reinstall. My printer does not even work correctly now and it is only 3 months old. It ran great when I first got it. I think I am going to load up vista again and totally turn off the updates so it does not even temp me. OMGosh I don't want to but only thing I can do. TY Microsoft for wasting yet another weekend on redoing my computer.

I have gone to hidden updates and was able to download an update that was about 2 months old with no problem.I have Malwarebytes and VIPRE security so I normally have Windows Defender turned off,but on two seperate ocaisions I have turned Windows Defender back on and Windows Update searched and found updates and I had no problem downloading and installing them.It even found the update for the newer Windows Update that I agreed to and insalled.
My computer is a VISTA Ultimate 64xbit and is kept up to date as much as possible.
When I try to install updates with Windows Update, I get a message that it's failed and an error code 80070002 (unknown error). I have deleted files in the Windows downloads folders as suggested

However when i tried following those steps, i got to step 6 and the Windows AIK Command Prompt said it "cannot find the path specified." I'm pretty sure i have the same error as that one though, meaning a corrupted GlobalInstallOrder.xml file. I don't think it can find that file because I'm using a 64-bit system. I can get the good old Windows Update interface back, somehow the interface as changed for something that is less usefull and easy to find what update I need to do or not.

However, I did not get its IE8 since it was optional and I didn't want it yet. It does not offer me a SP2. Why is that? I read it can be picky on drivers and stuff, but which ones? Do I really have to get every driver and updates from Acer.com? I know I can get the stand alone SP2, but I would like to know why Windows Update is refusing to give me SP2.

A few sites are reporting that MS has released another beta of SP2 to the public. Unfortunately, all the links provided by those sites point to older versions. Does anyone have a link to the x86 version of the latest SP2 Beta? It would have to be higher than v.285.

According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... When SP1 became available, it immediately appeared in the Available Updates list (in fact as the only one until I installed it, then others were re-listed again), but only on one of the two computers. On the other one, I continue to see all other updates but not SP1. It's not in the Updates History and the Help|About still shows version 6.0 (no Build 6001 or Service Pack 1 indicated). I read in MS articles that it is advisable to isntall SP1 from the Available Updates window rather than force download and install from the MS website. Is there an explanation for this or should I just give up and explicitly get it from the MS website?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a laptop last Christmas and it had various pre-installed stuff that I did not want and uninstalled them. A few weeks later and I have been trying use the windows media center remote to watch tv on my Toshiba Qosimio G40.
So far I have'nt found it and I think I may of unintentionally uninstalled it. I have been to Microsoft web page and have been looking to try and download the package or drivers for Windows Media Center. Unfortunately I have not found it on their web site. I could just reinstalled the recovery disc that I came with the laptop but that would be inconvienient as I have a load of sofware and files I would have to reinstall ect after the recovery. Does any one know how I can get Windows Media Center back on my laptop without having to use the recovery cd? Is there somewhere where I can download the package again?
I am running Windows Vista 64bit edition on an Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard, Intel Q9540 2.66gz Quadcore processor with 4gb RAM. My system has been running fine for the last year and just last night (27th June 2009) windows told me there were 3 updates that should be installed. I only noticed one of the update names which was Internet Explorer 8, the other 2 were security updates or something - really not sure though. The total of the downloaded updates was around 280mb.
Anyway... So I started installing the updates and walked away. When I came back there was a Terms & Agreement box for Internet Explorer 8 which I agreed to. Once that finished it came back to my desktop and said "windows needs to restart to configure the updates, please restart now."..........

When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. I am updating my computer and I thought it was finish but my computer restarts and I encountered the death blue screen. I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. It will just turn to blank screen with space at the upper left after if i will insert the installation disc.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition Dutch Version, updated with SP1 and all the patches/updates until today. However, I have encountered two problems lately, that might be related. During one of the last Windows update sessions, one of the recommended updates was KB940157: Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista for x64-systems (11,8MB).
The update downloaded succesfully, created a restore point, but then during installation of Search 4.0, windows update stops and announces an update fail error:
Failed: 1 update
Errorcode: 800F0900
I've been googling this particular error code in combination with KB940157, but it doesn't bring up any entries. Then later on, I discovered that when I go into the Windows Components window (via Control Panel, Add/remove software), the entire windows stays blank (first it says "Wait a few moments..."). This only lasts a few seconds then shows a complete empty window.
The last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.
The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.
