So far I have'nt found it and I think I may of unintentionally uninstalled it. I have been to Microsoft web page and have been looking to try and download the package or drivers for Windows Media Center. Unfortunately I have not found it on their web site. I could just reinstalled the recovery disc that I came with the laptop but that would be inconvienient as I have a load of sofware and files I would have to reinstall ect after the recovery. Does any one know how I can get Windows Media Center back on my laptop without having to use the recovery cd? Is there somewhere where I can download the package again?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm running windows Vista on an HP Pavilion. Recently, I went to use my DVD ROM and discovered the icon was missing from "My computer". This happened before with XP, and with XP I removed the appropriate Upper and Lower filters in the registry, restarted, and all was well. I tried this with vista and the upper and lower filters were not present. I ran a system profile and found my drive (HL DT ST DVD RAM GH IOL) was listed as uninstalled.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi have been trying to delete AVG on my computer for a long time, it began when i installed it, then uninstalled it but all files are left and i cant "uninstall" it again because when i look in Add or remove programs it dont appear on the list and when i run setup.exe it wants to install it but i cant install it either because i need a licensekey for it that i dont have. I used to have Unlocker but it dont work on x64 bit systems so i cant use it either. I cant delete the folder because the program is running like 5 progresses on my computer and when i finish any process they start again within seconds...i need space on my computer and the processes is taking much memory so .

View 7 Replies View RelatedRecently against my better judgement I installed iTunes on my computer so I could update my daughters iPod. Since that I have discovered programs like Bonjour and Safari which have been installed by the Apple Updater program. Some of these are in my startup group and as I use a lot of resources photo and video editing I decided to uninstall all of them. However in each case a message pops up saying "the computer administrator has set policies to prevent this installation" I have seen a lot of people complaining about
similar issues but most most of the solutions involve running programs which are not available in my version of Windows Vista, Home Premium 32-bit.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently experienced problems with the software for my Dell AIO 966 printer. On advice from the Dell NG's, I uninstalled all of my USB controllers, and rebooted in the expectation that Windows would detect and reinstall them. To a point, this was successful, but now whenever I boot my system, I get the windows "New hardware found"dialogue. Any, and I do mean ANY, mouse clicks in the dialog area at this point result in my mouse and keyboard being totally frozen.
Device Manager reports all the usual stuff, along with 2 "Unknown Device" entries. The only way I can boot my system now is to wait for the Hardware found diaalog, R-Click the taskbar, and kill the dialog from Task Manager. I usually have to kill it 3 times, at which point all is well. I've replaced the Dell printer that started this nonsense with an Epson Workforce 500, and have no printer problems. I'm obviously way over my head here folks.
When I click on "Start" there is a BitTorrent icon. When I first clicked on the icon there was an 'uninstall" optio which I ran, but the icon is still there. It said that BitTorrent was uninstalled but I still can't get rid of the icon. When I try to remove it, I get the "you need permission". When I go to control Panel> Add remove Programs, Bittorrent is not on the list, but how do I get rid iof the icon now??
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows Mail worked correctly for 1 year. I did not have the "password won't
save" problem at all.
McAfee Security Center was uninstalled and debris removal was performed
because I dislike McAfee (which came installed on the the computer.)
Avast Pro was installed because I like it.
Now, I have the Windows Mail "password won't save" problem. When I look at
the Account Properties, there's nothing in the password box. When I enter
the password and click Remember Password, check email, I get the popup
requesting username password. If I enter the info there, mail is received
and can be sent. Next time, it asks for username/pw again.
I have deleted the account, closed Windows Mail, recreated the account -
same problem.
I'm getting a com surrogate has stopped working message constantly, suddenly out of the blue today.
I do not have Nero
I uninstalled VLC
I upgraded (today) latest Vista Codec package + 64 bit components which I installed 3 days ago and never had an issue. I just started getting the error message today an hour ago out of the blue and I didn't even modify anything on the system nor install any software for a few days. I have Vista Ultimate 64bit with SP1 Refresh 2 (as of 3-4 days ago). I rebooted after uninstalling Divx, VLC and then installed the latest Vista codec pack. Still getting the same error message.
I installed a Yahoo game Big Kahuna Reef 2. Part of the install is a screen saver. The game was not working so I uninstalled it from PC. However when I click on desktop, screensaver and click on the drop down list the Big Kahuna Reef 2 screen saver is still there as a choice. If I click on it get a message that it can not load. I would expect this since I uninstalled the game. I can not get the name off the drop down list. I've tried to search for the .scr file, but infact can find no scr files anywhere on the hard drive.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi uninstalled "Fable Lost Chapters" because it was using up space on my drive. So i uninstalled the game, half way through the uninstallation the PC lagged so i used task manager to close the uninstaller. My first mistake was right there, after when i tried to uninstall it, it said i had finished but everything was clearly still there.
So i read around the forums, and i used a force uninstaller which worked fine, except the "fable lost chapters" icon was still in the "uninstall or change program" windows, with no stats, (ie how big it is, last altered ect). Game was gone but the value was still there. So i fished around the regeditor hoping to find it, but no luck there. I have also tried using "C CLeaner" to delete the entry but it gives me this error message "Cannot delete MSI installer" no idea what that means.
i have been having the BSFD for the past week i even uninstalled windows 7 and reinstalled vista, thsi is the dmp file.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIm using a HP Pavilion dv9700 notebook with vista 32bit OS installed. Note that when i did the following i was not connected to the internet: The problem only recently occured after i attempted ot remove Norton security centre from my computer. That uninstalled fine. I also installed tunup utilities 2009 and did a reboot. On reboot the Windows loading bar froze. This kept happening every time a did a restart. So i decided to do a system restore to resolve that problem. That resolved the freezing issue and i figured that i would have to remove internet security again and so tried to unistall it again only for it to say "The system cannot find the path specified." So Norton is now corrupt and i cant run it or uninstall it. But i decided to run registry scans and cleaned up the computer with Tuneup.
After i took the laptop back to where i can use the internet. I plugged in the Lan cable and tried to run firefox but it didnt connect. The only connection i can get is local only access. I live in University halls and i should be on the internet when i plug in the LAN cable. I have since tried a system restore to restore back to a couple of days ago but its no use. I still have the same problem. No internet and no chance of uninstalling Internet security for good. As my LAN network driver is Nvidia netwroking controller I can only assume that its the nvidia controller that is the problem. Even though windows claims there is nothing wrong with it. I have tried uninstalling the driver, but when i confirm it just closes the dialoge box and doesnt uninstall it at all. I cant rollback the driver as its not an option and although i downloaded an older version of the driver and installed it (it said that it installed?), it has no overrun the more up to date driver. I have been trying to fix this for around 6 hours now & its vital that i get back online with the computer as i have assignments due in for tuesday. (im using some one elses computer at the moment)
here’s one for the books!!! Shawn, I hope you’re there, I downloaded a GAOTD icon program called Desktop Icon Toy, but it didn’t work well for me, so I uninstalled it (using Programs + Features). Afterward, I did a search to see if there were any additional files left over, and there was one, (the system tray icon) which I also deleted. The icons on my Desktop reverted back to the way I originally had them, and I thought all was fine, until. . . later this evening I turned my laptop off and rebooted. Everything seemed fine except for the Desktop icons. This was something I’ve never seen before – each of the original icons had a generic icon laid over the top of it – like two layers of icons, and you could see the original icon a little bit around the edges of the generic one.
I tried right-clicking on Properties to change the icons back to what they were, but no dice. Couldn’t change them at all. Then I went to your Tutorial on deleting the icon cache, but it didn’t work. In fact, I did it twice and each time, the icon cache got larger! ( It went from 3,648kb, to 4,043kb, to 4,046kb.) I rebooted after each attempt and deleted the icon cache.db file from the Recycle Bin after each reboot. The last thing I tried was changing the Display color setting from 32 to 16 and back again. I saw the icons move slightly as the changes were occurring, but the problem didn’t get fixed. Now I’m really concerned. Have you ever heard of this happening Shawn? I have Vista 64 bit on an HP Pavillion dv5t.
Now I'm wondering if some of these apps./progs. that I know that I have uninstalled can be removed from this list? And if so how? Attachment 3121
View 9 Replies View RelatedIf you have installed Windows Mail on a Windows 7 computer, yesterday's update contains a KB978542 patch which changes msoe.dll so it won't run on Windows 7. I had warned about these types of issues when Win7 was first released. Microsoft claims it was done for security=20 reasons, see To get it working again, replace the new non-working copy of msoe.dll in Windows 7 with a copy of the new patched version of msoe.dll from a Vista machine.=20
Note: I ran into permissions issues when trying to delete the = non-working msoe.dll, so rather than fighting that, I renamed the Win7 Windows Mail directory to "Windows Mail-X", then I copied and pasted the Windows Mail directory from the Vista machine. I suspect that Windows Mail will = become less and less compatible with Win7 as time goes along.=20

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition Dutch Version, updated with SP1 and all the patches/updates until today. However, I have encountered two problems lately, that might be related. During one of the last Windows update sessions, one of the recommended updates was KB940157: Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista for x64-systems (11,8MB).
The update downloaded succesfully, created a restore point, but then during installation of Search 4.0, windows update stops and announces an update fail error:
Failed: 1 update
Errorcode: 800F0900
I've been googling this particular error code in combination with KB940157, but it doesn't bring up any entries. Then later on, I discovered that when I go into the Windows Components window (via Control Panel, Add/remove software), the entire windows stays blank (first it says "Wait a few moments..."). This only lasts a few seconds then shows a complete empty window.
There are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.
