SupportSoft sprtcm
HD Audio Control Panel
Google Toolbar Notifier
That would leave only Microsoft Windows Operating System and Trend Micro Internet Security as the 2 items checked for Startup.
Uninstalled Game Can't Name Off Drop Down List
Jun 16, 2009I installed a Yahoo game Big Kahuna Reef 2. Part of the install is a screen saver. The game was not working so I uninstalled it from PC. However when I click on desktop, screensaver and click on the drop down list the Big Kahuna Reef 2 screen saver is still there as a choice. If I click on it get a message that it can not load. I would expect this since I uninstalled the game. I can not get the name off the drop down list. I've tried to search for the .scr file, but infact can find no scr files anywhere on the hard drive.

System Configuration Question
Jun 18, 2008With Windows XP, when you ran msconfig, and rebooted, you got that box with the message about how your settings have changed, and at the bottom there was a checkbox that said something to the extent of "Do not show this message at startup".
With Vista, when you run msconfig and reboot, Windows Defender comes up and gives you a message something to the extent of "Some programs have been blocked, click here to see which programs or choose to unblock them".
But now there's no easy, evident way to not make that message seen at startup.
System Configuration : Delete The Statrup Tab
Jun 22, 2009When I go into system configuration into the 'Startup' tab, it shows programs that are not on my computer anymore (at least I think). Is there anyway to get rid of these? I follow the file link and can't find them so I believe they are removed. Just wondering how to delete them from the Startup tab.

Oct 19, 2008Had an incomplete install of a program...computer otherwise working fine...did a system restore to try to go back to preinstall...in the system restore shutdown and restart, now hung up in a update configuation loop that is in third step up to 99% that shuts down only to do the same thing over and over again. So my system never gets to the mainscreen acknowledging system was restored.
I tried F8 going to safe mode, but configuation step 3 takes over again, goes to 99% and shuts down to restart.
I tried the vista 64 sp1 disc...cannot acccess another restore point since it says the system is already in restore mode....just never gets there with the endless 3rd step update configuration loop.
The disc also does not offer the repair/update mode as an option...only full install.
I do have norton ghost 14 on the system...so there is a complete backup file on another internal drive...but no way to get to it to initiate a recovery ...

Feb 7, 2009i installed sp2 several times. First time it worked fine until we had a power outage and it unregistered my windows installation and cited security breach as the reason why it could not rereg the os. so I reinstalled the OS. after about a week i installed sp2 and again it worked fine for about 3 days Then it unregistered the os again. This time i uninstalled the SP and all was fine. went to reinstall the sp and it would make it to the 100% mark and back out the whole installation.
AFter reading forums til my eyeballs bled i found i could "rearm" the system. I did this and SP2 reinstalled fine. The next day updates told me i had 1 important update and it was a sp2 uninstallation tool. I clicked ok and d/l it when the system rebooted it promptly removed sp2. I reinstalled sp2 it reinstalled fine. The next day new definitions for defender came in and when it rebooted it removed sp2 again>??? Any ideas this round robin installation system seems to be stuck in a loop and im stuck with something just not sure what.
Rid Of The "Recent Items" List From The Startup
May 15, 2010I was trying to get rid of the "Recent Items" list from the startup (found the option to allow it or not, so that's not a problem anymore) but while doing so, I went to the source (/appdata/roaming/microsoft/windows) and dragged the icon to my desktop to see if that would work. What happened was I created another "Recent Items" icon on my desktop, which I can't move or delete. Plus, I still have the original one which I also can't move or delete. I don't want the one on my desktop anymore, is there any way to get rid of it?

I saw that message about the missing os loader so I grabbed my father in laws XP PRO cd (which i just realized won't freaking work) and tried to install that.... Got the blue screen of death. I tried changing my hd setting in the bios from AHCI to IDE still no success. The BSOD error message was this: STOP: 0x0000007B (0XF78D22524, 0XC0000034, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)
System Trying To Repair The Startup
May 23, 2008I restart it and it doesn't want to start up and it just keeps trying to repair the startup. This then stopped, for the next couple of days all it was doing was going past the BIOS then a black screen with a blinking cursor would appear and it would never boot. Im pretty much sure that it came with Vista preinstalled on it so I dont have a vista CD, I tried the recovery Cd.
Now everytime i restart it it gives me options for safe mode etc I have picked them all and it loads fr a bit then the screen goes to a page with text saying reinstall windows and the registry is corrupt. Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt. Now I cant get into any of the safe modes at all and I dont have a vista CD as it was preinstalled.
System Power Off By Itself At Startup
Jun 4, 2009My laptop always automatically power off by itself. Means that it won't have the shutdown interface but automatically power off. Like we close our power on a CPU. When i power on, it will power off by itself at startup, window progress bar and the window interface. Sometime it went well until i shutdown. There are no blue screen. I have done scandisk but seem like no bad sector.

Feb 11, 2009I have an Acer 9410 laptop with Windows Vista and I had taken it to computer techs to fix some mouse pad problems as well as some startup freezing problems. They said it passed their PC check so didn't appear as anything was wrong. They said I could try to do system recovery to restore it back to its factory settings. Well, when I initially tried it, it didn't work so then, not thinking this through and not being as familiar with this as I would like to have been, I accidentally rand the Anytime Upgrade CD thinking it was also the recovery CD.
Of course, I found out after the fact that it was just that, so it reinstalled another version of Vista on my computer which then completely wiped everything including the Acer emPowering Technology software which contains the software to do the system Recovery. But it also removed some of my original drives like the memory card drivers, microphone, and maybe the webcam. In the process it saved a bunch of old Windows files to my hard drive. Are those still useful and is there any way
I can recover those drivers besides getting the recovery CD's which I can purchase from Acer or the store where I bought it from for around $40.
System Repair On Startup Mode
Oct 18, 2009I am currently running vista home premium 32 bit. Every time I put my computer in sleep mode for the night, the next morning it goes right into the system repair on startup mode. After startup, I notice that a lot of my downloads and files from days before have been lost. I want to know if there's a way to solve this problem.

Aug 21, 2009when I start up my PC (running Vista64 sp2 OS) my sidebar has a white background instead of the usual translucent one. If I close the side bar, the white background remains with holes in it where the Gadget icons were. Logging off of Windows Vista and then back on again fixes the problem. Has anyone else had this specific problem? Is this a glitch with Vista OS and there is no cure?

Mar 23, 2008I'm getting a BSOD right when Vista gets to the login screen on startup. The system will boot to safe mode, but I have no idea how to fix it from there. This happened suddenly on a system that has been running stable for 6+ months. At first I thought that perhaps some of my RAM was bad, so I tried booting with just one stick in (I have 4x1gb), but it wouldn't boot on any of them. My other suspicion was that I had installed drivers for a new keyboard that night before (as that was the only recent change to my system configuration), so I deleted those, but that didn't help either. I'm thinking my next move is to flash my BIOS, but I'm running out of ideas......

Aug 14, 2008When I boot up my PC it goes all the way to the loading screen (the progress bar) and then monitor goes blank and system reboots. I choose to start in safe mode (from the selection), it starts all good. Then I restart the PC and it boots well without any problems. However, next time I shut down, I have to go through the whole process again. Sometimes I see "dumping physical memory" with a blue screen, sometimes I don't. I THINK it has something to do with my video drivers, but I updated to the latest catalyst drivers and still same thing.

Oct 7, 2009A friend had issues with his laptop, the system (Vista Home Premium)came with lots of preinstalled acer software, he had tried getting rid of them but had no luck, anyhow, he ended up turning off all the startup programs in system config, upon rebooting, he had the error no os found, i have since managed to get passed htis, however i cannot get any further.
The HD is recognised in Bios. The repair from a disc was completed Now it will boot into windows but nothing, no user, no task bar, nothing just an arrow on the screen with a background. I have tried removing memory and starting up repair for a second time bootsect via cmd nothing, i cant boot into safe mode, it just loops back to normal boot, it has no restore points.
I only have vista basic and vista business discs, and he does not have a disc, it came with a partition, i have tried recovery but it tells me there is not backup, yet i can get the task manager up and into cmd, this shows me all the files, so i know there is no issue there. I am assuming that the boot file in boot.ini is up the duff. Is there any way i can get this thing to boot up with his user and all back to normal?
