ing 'double tap' thing being double click. I can't stand it. I've accidentally clicked on countless things over the past two days (I just got this laptop). Yet I can find no way to edit it. I'm about ready to chuck this thing out a window because it's so frustrating. I downloaded Synaptics, but it doesn't seem to help because I can't find the tapping options. Maybe I downloaded the wrong version of it. If Sypantics works, can some give me instructions to getting rid of double tap?

Aug 15, 2009i tried downloading puff the magic dragon for my brother using limewire. after the download was complete, i opened it with itunes, realized it was a virus, and i began getting popups of porn and the like. now about every 10 minutes or so, i get a blue screen, my computer crashes and restarts. ive tried to start in safe mode, and i had absolutely no internet connection. i also get a pop up everytime i sign on that says iexplore.exe is requesting permission to access my computer which i cancel everytime.

Mar 1, 2007another problem with this OS, it seems once an hour my Windows Explorer will completely kick the bucket. What happens is all the windows and tabs at the bottom of the screen stop working and kind of migrate to the bottom left all mashing together making everything practically useless. So I end up have to end explorer.exe and resterting it.

Jun 11, 2008I've been getting a lot of blue screen stop messages that halt mycomputer. About 2 weeks ago this was happening once a day. It became more frequent until yesterday it was happening every time I tried to boot up during the boot process. Last night, I finally copied off all of my files, formatted the hard drive, and installed a new copy of Vista Premium. Believe it or not, I still have the same problem - although now I can boot up and get some work done before a crash happens.
This is a Sony Vaio laptop with 1.25 gigs of ram and a 70 gig hard drive. The error messages are always different. I didn't write any of them down, but they are like "Subset not less than zero" and "Page fault in non-paging area" and "IQL server not found" (I'm sure these aren't right, but you get the idea). So, how could this be happening on a clean and formatted hard drive with a brand new operating system? Is the problem in the BIOS or the motherboard or somewhere else?
Stop User Account Control (UAC) Screen Flicker / Flash
Feb 19, 2007Every time I get one of those UAC prompts asking me to authorize an administrative action my LCD screen flashes when the box pops up. This is caused by the switch to the secure desktop, similar to what happens when you hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE. The only difference is that the background is a snapshot of your desktop that gives it the effect that it is just a pop up window. Although if you look carefully you will notice it is static since the clock does not change and anything else that was animated is now static. The secure desktop provides an extra level of security to UAC by making it immune to any application that may try to automate the click on the allow button bypassing the purpose of UAC.
This sounds like a great thing but it is really annoying to me. I hate that screen flicker. Rather than disable UAC, there is a better alternative. Instead, I can just disable the secure desktop switch that causes the flicker. I know this is not as secure but it is better than disabling UAC completely.

Aug 7, 2009Everytime I return to work after putting computer to sleep, the computer wakes up without no problem. But once I move the mouse, a shadowed box appeared. With the moment of the mouse, the size of that box enlarges or shrinks. If I click on the mouse, that box disappeared but then a window [View/Sort by/Refresh/NVIDIA Control Panel/New/Personalize] opens. I close this window, only to find the pointer of mouse stop working and the screen is frozen. For now I solve the problem by two ways described below, but it is very annoying to have to do it everytime I return to work from Sleep.
1.I open Task Manager, do nothing, and close it.
2.I right click the mouse on desktop, change the size of Icons. Repeat this action one more time.

Jun 29, 2009let me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........

Feb 6, 2009A client is using Windows Vista Business, sp1 and has been using Windows Fax & Scan module. Recently (though they don't know just when) the fax module stopped working. When it is opened, a notice on the Status Bar says "refreshing" which would imply it is trying to refresh the list of what is in the inbox data set I would assume. It never gets past this. If you try to manually generate a new fax, it goes through the motions but then doesn't "git 'er done".
The modem appears to be working normally. I though it could be a corruption issue with the MSFax folder or one of the subfolders or files in it. I tried moving it to a different location. No luck. I tried uninstalling the Windows Fax module, restarting, and reinstalling to no avail. I tried deleting the MSFax folder before uninstalling and after uninstalling so a whole new set of files and folders would be generated. No luck.
If you change down to the Scan portion of the module it seems to work fine. You can scan, view previous scans. ... But when you go back to the Fax portion of the module, there it sits, "refreshing". If you do anything like trying to generate a fax or change folders or whatever, it basically hangs and you have to get completely out and restart the system.
I saw one posting on the web that sounded like the same issue. Their resolve was to change the fax service to manual; restart the system and start it manually; change it back to automatic; restart the system and then all was fine. I tried this and that too yielded no resolve.
No Permission, Is Stuck!
Feb 7, 2010Last night I was trying to get rid of some of the virtual memory on my laptop.
It has 320 Gb and 260 Gb are occupied so since I only have 80 Gb on the HD, I was trying to fix the problem.Well instead to fix the problem I made a mess somehow I changed the users and Admin' options, and I changed all the permissions to the accounts two accounts!! I was trying to get control of the system like a TrustedInstaller.instead.the laptop works but I have no access to anything!
Right now I basically have no permission only reading NO ACCESS to the hard disk ...no access to most of the systems' folders .
In prompt I can not really do anything since it denies every my request.

Thats dumb, i think. i was wondering, how can i Take Ownership from my WHOLE computer and have the Full Permission from just everything. In a way to grant Acess to whole Notebook. How do i do it? I know its possible cause in a Modified Windows Version it was like that.

On my C: drive they're called windows.old.5 or windows.old.4 etc. They are taking up half the space on my hard drive! Any time I try to delete them it tells me that i need permission to perform this action, but I am the only person who uses the laptop as it is mine. What can I do? I have looked at other threatds with this problem, I have made myself administrator, tried taking ownership over the files, and they still won't delete.
