Mouse And Keyboard Freeze At Startup
Jul 29, 2009I have been running a Vista Ultimate 32 SP 1 with 4G RAM for a year now. 3 moths ago after a slew of updates from Vista, at start-up the Mose and Keyboard began freezing. It would happen at the initial boot almost every time. If I hard restarted the machine then it would boot normally and they would not freeze once the system is running though. I thought it may be the latest Nvidia graphic driver ( I have the GT9600 ) so I rolled back to the initial one which was working perfectly. I also updated to SP2.
Registry And Deleted The Item From The Startup Tab And Disabled Startup Tab
May 23, 2009I am running Vista 64 and installed a program which apparently had a virus or I got it using IE8. I found an entry in the start up tab that was causing a problem. I went into the registry and deleted the item from the startup tab and I also disabled it in the startup tab. The startup tab still shows the item even though it is disabled and deleted from the registry. Why does it still show in MSCONFIG and how do I delete it from the start up entry

Using External Monitor, Screen Pops
Dec 14, 2008Ever since I switched to Windows Vista Enterprise Edition 32 Bit I have been having some problems with my dual-monitor set up. My computer is a Fujitsu Tablet PC and is about 2 years old, and my external monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster941BW. For some reason once I go and use the intel display options and set up the extended desktop everything appears to be fine. However when the Windows Vista security screen pops up asking for you permission for a specified action it gets rid of my extended desktop and just kicks everything back to only my laptops display. This also happens when restarting the computer and doing "Ctrl + alt + delete" to open the task manager. It is extremely frustrating and I was wondering if anyone else had this problem? I am not sure if it is just a problem with vista or if I need a new driver since updating from xp, even though my computer says it is the latest driver for the monitor.

Jan 31, 2010when I try and move files between folders, or delete files from trashcan or even within file folders. The delete icons pops up but takes forever to complete and never goes away, yet the files transfer or delete within a few seconds just like they should. The only way I could get rid of them without a restart was to start task manager and remoeve them that way, and even that took a while. Attached is a screenshot of about 10 icons that were not closing. It seemed as if they would stay their forever if you would let them.

Dial-up Connection Dialogue Box Pops Up At Random
Jun 3, 2008I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium & connected via broadband with tiscali. Windows Mail randomly pops up the dial-up conection box but I can't get rid of this. I just click on the 'x' at top right and it goes, only to reappear at some random time. It's not a problem as such, just irritating.

Vista Startup: After Two Minutes I Get The Welcome Screen. Then The Monitor Goes Black For A Full Two Minutes Before Continuing The Startup Process
Mar 23, 2008I have just puchased my first Windows Vista computer - an HP laptop. I have purchased at leat five laptops since 2000 so I am familiar with setup and
comfortable with installations etc. I have three questions here.
1. My last computer had Windows XP and an 80 gb hard drive with 70 gb full - After copying the data only (55 GB) to my new 250 gb hard drive I have only 107 GB remaining of the 222 GB C drive partition. I have not yet added many programs. That tells me that Vista must be using 50-60 GB or more of the drive. Can that be correct?
2. My new computer takes 5-6 minutes to start up. After two minutes I get the welcome screen. Then the monitor goes black for a full two minutes before continuing the startup process. Is this normal for Vista?
3. Occasionally the monitor goes dark for a few seconds and a window pops up saying the display driver has failed but is back. Is this normal?
I certainly gained no speed with this new computer. There are many things I like about Vista. Since I have no previous experience with owning it I am trying to sort out if this computer is a lemon that should be returned or if I should just put up with the downside.
Startup Failure, Startup Recovery
Apr 27, 2008The last couple of days I had a few times a startup error. It said something like Windows couldn't start normally. Run Startup Recovery (Recommended) Start Windows Normally. I did the Startup Recovery and then it worked again but the next day or so the same thing, otherwise my system runs fine.

Aug 10, 2009while back I had a Windows XP PC but it got dumb and crashed. So I just got my new Tower Which is Windows Vista-x64(Home Premium.) On my old machine I had a game I new and loved called Rayman 2 that isn't compatible to Vista. So my only option was to install it under Microsoft VPC 2007. It did Install but It wouldn't play. Here is the issue: I go To play the game and an error pops up that said I need to install DirectX 6.0 so I did. It didnt matter tho cuz I still had the error. So then I realized the error as telling me to configure the Graphics so It had another error when I Opened The "GXSetup."
Which was this: error1.jpg It Didn't Really matter because it still let me open the exe. But HERE IS WHERE THE REAL PROBLEM STARTED. The program successfully opened! But This is what it contained: MajorError.jpg My only thought was what the f*ck I am going to scream. Because from what it looks like Virtual PC Wasn't Detecting Much or anything at all to do with Graphics (the dropdown arrows contain absolutely nothing).

Mar 23, 2008I just got a new laptop with vista a few months ago. Everything ran smoothly until recently when I went to turn it on and got an error message that???s repeated ever since. It shows the black 'vista' page, the screen turns black, and after a while a box pops up reading; 'window error recovery' A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It suggests I launch startup Repair. However when I do so it says "startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically."
I've tried going into system recovery options and using system restore to a date when it was working correctly, but it seemed to have no effect. I haven???t changed any hardware or software recently, and the only thing plugged into it was the power cord. I'm afraid I'm not very tech savvy, but I don't want to give up on a brand
new computer!
Window "Age Of Empires II Has Stopped Working." Pops Up
Apr 2, 2010I have read many previous forums about AoE II issues, but none seem to apply to my issue. Late last year I successfully installed AoE II on my computer and was able to play it in Windows 98 compatibility without any issues. More recently whenever I try to play it, the window "Age of Empires II has stopped working." pops up.
I have updated patches, I have tried using files from a flash drive, I've tried installing and reinstalling, disabling graphics card, and many of the other suggestions read on this forum, none of which worked for me. I also installed the Trial version, and ironically, it works perfectly fine.

Feb 11, 2010The computer has worked fine since then, I've used the internet at wi-fi hotspots around my city, with never a single problem...until last night. While I was on-line at home, I was checking a website that I have always checked before without issue when my Windows Defender suddenly popped open and said that my computer was under threat and blocked Internet Explorer from me and started running a diagnosic. Well apparently it said that I had like 26 infections in my computer. That I had worms, spyware, adware, that someone was watching my key logs, etc, etc, and it gave me the option to click on the remove all. So I clicked on it, but instead of doing anything, another message box appeared saying that my Windows Defender is not the full version and that I must either purchase the full version or enter my key code for it. I don't have a key code since I never bought this program, was pre-installed.
Anyways, now whenever I try to open Internet Explorer, the Windows Defender pops up and says that my IE is infected and asks if I would like to purchase the full Windows Defender. I have clicked on both options. If I say "no", the computer blocks my IE, if I say yes, it opens my IE, but instead of taking me to a Windows website, it takes me to www.antivirus-care.com, which my browser says does not exist and instead takes me to another page with a listing of anti-virus program sites to buy from. Well, all this seems fishy to me because I can't do anything with the Windows Defender program. I can't turn it off, I can't change its settings, or even look at other options it has. Instead whenever I try the message window of "would I like to buy the full version now?" appears and keeps appearing.

trying to email and letters sometimes dont appear or get stuck.i'll look up from typing long sentence and its missing bits. does that make sense?
pressing the keys feels the same as normal,nothing sticky yet when writing it 'sticks'. or i have to type very very slowly to get a letter out.sometimes it works ,sometimes it wont but then will give me many of the same letter in a row ie repeating it depending on how many times i've pressed..
i phoned Dell and they suggested i turn off computer and restart-no good.
and then said try a different keyboard so we can work out whether its that or a software program.
i dont know what to do now cos my old keyboard is wireless so i obviously cant plug it in like the current one.
how do i do this?
i am only a beginner so please can you only give really simple answers with detailed explanation/directions. its not my computer but my husbands so i dont know how any of it was set up.
