View 9 RepliesIm not really good with hardware and those stuff, so I just wanted to know..this programs like " Hide my IP " Does they really work? Have anyone of you guys tried them? (with a router/without) Can there be any consequences, etc?
and I have a router, wireless, Will these be a problem for me too hide my IP or change it with this applications. I know there is an tutorial but thats not what im looking for. Btw, if I change / hide my IP can I go in too websites that I was banned from ?
In XP I could use TweakUI to hide a disk drive from the kids and was still
able to use the hidden drive.
There is no TweakUI for Vista and I've tried to hide a drive with registry
tweaks(HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer)
and via command prompt (using diskpart). The problem is that both ways leave
hidden drives that are not usable. It's as if they truely do not exist.
I've run across a couple of applications (Avira Premium Security Suite, Spyware Terminator) that, despite choosing the "Always Hide" option for their tray icon, every time the computer reboots, they default back to "Hide When Inactive." Sure, it's a minor issue to set them back to "Always Hide" when I reboot, but is there some sort of tweak somewhere that will force these applications to remember the "Always Hide" setting, instead of defaulting back to "Hide When Inactive?"

I googled and found a solution that concerned with the registry [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows NT CurrentVersion Winlogon SpecialAccounts UserList]. I added the usernames[DWORD32:0] under the key, but the username still appears on WelCome Screen

Members must provide valid e-mail addresses and nobody is to send messages to the group without membership and valid acknowledged address. So, my question is, how did this happen ? How did the message get through, and how did the sender use faked address and still be able to send the message out? We want to stop this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running a new Sony Vaio laptop with Vista Home Premium installed (no SP1 offered to me as yet). My question is not one for the Outlook newsgroup (I reckon) but simply as to the path in Windows Vista leading to the Outlook Address Book. I ask because it was my custom to back up Outlook Express daily on to an external hard drive by drag and drop. I would transfer to related address book in a similar manner. Having upgraded to Outlook, I am able to back up that folder daily in a similar manner. But when I find the new address book, in .csv format, it does not relate directly to the new address book that I have edited in Outlook format. My question is, put simply, is there a proper address book lurking away in the background that is invisible to me?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am picking up a conversation that has been developing in a thread on another topic because I think it is signifacant and should get its own thread. Jawade of Kolibrie Software has been saying that his boot manager can effectively prevent XP volsnap.sys from erasing Vista's shadowcopies in a multiboot scenario. He has been trying a few things to verify this and hopefully he will join this thread and supply some info about it. So far he has verified that restore points and previous versions survive a reboot into XP and a reboot back into Vista.
During the Vista beta program several testers tried some well-known boot managers that were supposed to be able to hide a volume and either they did not function correctly with Vista or they did not hide a Vista volume at a low enough level to prevent XP from damaging Vista files.
I've recently got this problem where my taskbar will no longer stay hidden. Once I boot up it will auto-hide for a short time then it just stops working as if my mouse is always hoovering over the taskbar. I can then disable and then re-enable the feature and it will then hide until I put my mouse over it and then it will no longer hide. The only new thing that was done before this happened was installing Vipre Antivirus software. I've tried disabling that to see if that was the problem but it still remains. Does nayone have any ideas what would cause this and more importantly how to fix it?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows Vista Home Basic and I accidently performed a hard shut down earlier today. Now when I boot up my computer, it will boot up and then it will completely shutdown and restart again. When it shuts down, it gives me a blue screen and then says "Windows has been shut down to prevernt damage to your computer. bad_pool_reader". I can boot up in safe mode, but if I try to boot it up regularly, then this cycle happens all over again. What do I need to do to fix the problem (preferabbly without having to reinstall Windows/deleting all of my information on the computer)?
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently, after an unsuccessful attempt to upgrade to Windows 7, my reinstalled Vista Home Premium 64bit, after operating normally for a while, lost sound completely. I cannot pinpoint the event that prompted this malfunction and instead of trying to toubleshoot the onboard Realtek High Definition Audio, I installed a Diamond Xreme Sound 5.1 card running a C-Media Electronic driver ver. 6.12.8.1737, which is the latest for this sound card. The sound card worked fine, after a restart, producing rich sound via Logitech's X-210 2-speaker-plus subwoofer system. As long as I kept the system on Sleep, the sound worked fine. As soon as I turned the computer off for the night last night, the system reloaded with no sound playing whatsoever.
I have disabled the onboard Realtek High Definition Audio under Device Manager as well as the ATI High Definition Audio Device that appeared after I installed a Gigabyte HD 5770 graphics card BEFORE I installed the sound card. The only active audio devices now are the C-Media PCI Audio Device (Diamond sound card) and the Logitech Mic QuickCam S7500. Under Sound in the Control Panel, the only playback device is Speakers that are checked and are reported OK by the system as part of the Diamond sound card. Under Recording, the following devices appear: C-Media Microphone currently unavailable Line-In C-Media Audio Device (speakers) checked and working C-Media Aux device currently unavailable C-Media CD player currently unavailable C-Media Stereo Mix currently unavailable C-Media Wave currently unavailable Logitech Mic Working Under Sounds Play Windows Startup sound is checked. After installing the latest C-Media driver and restarting the computer, I receive faint sound from one of the Logitech speakers with volume turned to 100 pc. But no stereo, strong sound....!
I want to be able to stop users being able to change the auto-hide setting of the taskbar on a windows vista machine. Anyone any ideas how to do this? I want it to be set to always auto-hide so the solution either wants to stop the user being able to change this or maybe as a second solution if they do change it then i want it to be reset when the machine is rebooted.
View 5 Replies View RelatedQouted for various sources on the internet and re-wrote in my own words "If there is only 1 account on your vista rig, and you loose the password for the account, you have to run out, buy a new installation disc for a few hundred and reinstall"
Is this true?
One night while my grilfriend was sick as heck, she decided to change her password. not really smart cause when she woke up the next morning, she didn't remember anything from that day. so now she has no password. now, if this was XP i'd be able to open it up in safe mode, jump into the administer account and and make the password something simple. but since it's vista, the powers that be decided that it would be best if the administer account was not enabled by default. so i cannot go through in safe mod to change the windows password. i tried the reset password technique, but to do that you need a password reset disc such as a floppy disc,(no port) or flash drive that somehow has the windows install on it. right. i've tryed password cracking softwear. that worked on my home XP, and it got my password, and my brothers. but when i tried the Vista versions on her Piece of C, it came up with no password set.
we're all relitivly poor and cant afford $200 for XP or Vista just to loose all the stuff she had on her computer. please. prove me wrong. tell me how to get passed the password on her computer so that we can get all of our pictures and crap off.
I'm still using XP and I always use the classic style.
Recently, I've been thinking about switching to Vista 64 someday, but I've got a question about the classic theme:
I know that the theme is available, but does it give me complete access to all the functions available? I think I heard somewhere that some things won't work properly because Vista's GUI just differs very much from the older ones, and so there are functions that are not accessible anymore.
Is that true? Can the use of the classic theme really narrow my set of functionalities?

So I have been testing Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1 for a week now to see if Vista is ready for primetime. I almost ironed out all bugs that was holding me back from switching from winxp. All except one. I can't make Vista shut down completely. It seems to turn off, but all fans keep spinning. No matter how long I wait. I'm not a novice computer user so please don't tell me I might have mistaken sleep, hibernate with SHUT DOWN.

Running Vista Home Prem 32BIT I deleted a file, it was in a Folder I had created that was located on my desktop. I realize when you delete a File, the File Pointer is the only thing erased, the file data remains on the drive. This is a sensitive file and I would like to know if there is away to completely erase the file so its not recoverable (I don't want to Reformat my drive....just want to remove the Erased file)
