I have a 16.000kbps ADSL2+ broadband, and a D-Link DIR-655 Wireless Router connected to it. Currently I have a laptop, a stationary computer, and my xbox 360 connected to it. All wireless. Everything is fine when I have only one connected at a time, but when I connect my stationary and my xbox 360 at the same time, it seems like I get a crash somewhere now and then, and I cant figure out what it is. When I logon COD4 to play, I get 'connection interrupted' every.. ~15-30min, wich causes me to go offline. When I download anything on my stationary, it seems like the internet connection 'goes down', or 'hangs' for ~20secs. That would be the same problem on both systems (x360 and PC). I have tried to lock an IP to their MAC-Adresses, so an IP-Conflict could not be possible. I have UPNP enabled, and all ports etc. Still this is happening.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am currently in the process of configuring a new Dell XPS 630. I want the system to be primarily for gaming. I have yet to use a PC with Vista, so needless to say I am not familiar with it, let alone the difference between Vista 32-bit and 64 bit systems. The price difference between the 32- and 64-bit systems that I am debating between is very small. Anyway, my questions and concerns are. Is there an advantage to having a 62-bit version over a 32-bit version of vista when it comes to gaming? Any performance problems/issues of one or the other?
If I get the 64-bit version, will 4GB of RAM be enough for gaming or do I need more? Which processor will be better... Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.40GHz,1066FSB) or Intel® Core™2 E8500 (6MB,3.16 GHz, 1333FSB)? How much hard drive space does the OS take up? Would a 500GB hard drive be a decent size. (assuming I plan to remove most games after they are completed)Here is the configuration Im looking at. Price with shipping comes to $1216 USD. Plus I have $550 worth of Dell gift cards I've been saving. Nice thing is 19in monitor is included.........
First system I've assembled with a computer savy friend.Asus P6T deluxe,i7 940,Corsair DDR3 Dominator 1600,Evga Gtx 280,PcPower and Cooling 860watt,Vista Home Premiun 64bit,Creative Xi-fi Fatl1ty sound card. My problem is playing Cod 5 Waw,I'm getting freeze screens.Always black horizon but lower graphics still showing. If I hit Cntrl,Alt,Delete out of the game then hit cancel in Vista.I can get back into game.If it lets me back in the game it will usually not crash again and work well.Other times I get disconnected. Other games I'm getting strange thin lines of color across screen.I've adjusted ram frequency to 1.65 using xmp in bios.Didn't solve problem.Did make it much smoother when it does work good.Using driver 180.48 I've updated evga driver and newer ones crash more.Do I need to adjust some other aspect of system to get total smoothness?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Vista Home Premium 32bit (OEM, sadly) and would like your advice. I am planning on building a new PC over the summer (as I can finally work for decent wages!) and I want to make it a beast. I'm not going to go completely crazy; I'll have a budget of around €1,500 to €2,000. For the most part, I have a good idea of what I'll be getting (X38 Intel mobo, E8xxx Core2 or Quad, R700 ATi or 9xxx nVidia etc) but when it comes to RAM I'm a bit stuck. Should I get 4GBs and a cheaper 32bit version of Vista or go for the 64bit? I know 64bit can theoreticly handle alot more RAM than 32bit, but with 4GB is it worth spending the extra cash on 64bit, or will 32bit handle it just fine? (And by "handle it" I mean utilise it fully. I dont want to find only 3GBs out of 4GB are actually being used...) Aslo, for the 64bit users out there: how is driver support? Are you encountering many problems with games/drivers/hardware?

I am looking for a new gaming mouse, but I have no idea what to get. So far I have narrowed it down to a Logitech G5 or a Microsoft Sidewinder. I currently have a Logitech G7, however to get a new one is out of my price range. ($50-$70 Canadian). Any other suggestions out there? View 9 Replies View RelatedOne game I tried recently was Callof Juarez. A friend brought it over to try and see if it would work after I told him I have trouble getting games to work. I can only find generic Aspire manuals online, nothing specific to my model.
I have tried to see what kind of video card is installed but in my device manager, under sound, audio controllers it only describes the audio cards, no mention of video card. I therefore assume it is a generic card that probably is not capable of gaming, BUT Acer did give me a nice screen saver that shows a clip on gaming, (b-astard-o's)...........

Just wondering if anyone has had any issues and/or problems since SP1 was released today.I know it may be too early to tell what with the manufacturers rushing to create drivers that will actually take advantage of the over 550 hotfixes incorperated into SP1, but so far for me at least I have seen at least a 20% increase in overall gaming performance and system response. One main thing I've seen that has not improved is any source games. It seems the source engine is either not a fan of vista, or the 8800 series cards. But as for games such as World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament III, all seem to have an increase in FPS and load times. If anyone has a positive or negative comments for SP1, please let me know; very curious to see what Microsoft has accomplished/screwed up.

The progression of software and gaming technology:
As times goes on, technology inevitably advances. Back in the 1980s, words like megabyte were considered to represent a large amount of space on a hard drive or in total system ram. In the mid 1990s, we began to see megabytes in mass numbers when it came to RAM. At present, we are in the midst of the first decade in the 21st century: Hard drives are just now begining to be meassured in terabytes and ram is being meassured in multiple gigs.
With the increase in horsepower and ranchspace that fuels PCs as they advance, software becomes hungrier and hungrier of these resources. If you try to run Windows XP on a PC built for Windows 95, you will note that the entire system may come to a hault. Likewise, if you attempt to run Windows Vista and DirectX10 games on a machine built for Windows XP, you will encounter similar results!
This means that with each new installment of Windows that there is a new set of standards for system requirements to run the operating system. Windows Vista is more hungry than Windows XP when it comes to your system's resources. Everything you run will run slower on Vista due to the simple fact that Vista uses more of your system, so, do not post your frame rates and ask us, "why are they lower!?".
Windows XP was designed to run with a reccomended 512mb of ram and an optimal 2gb of ram for gaming. If you disagree with me, try running Battlefield 2142 in Titan Game Mode on a 64 person server with maximum detail if you think windows XP doesn't want 2gb of ram for optimal performance. When converting to windows vista it is important to note, Vista uses more of your base system, so, your system should be proportionately stronger in order to strong the performance dip!..................
Basically im quite upset and angry at the fact i just bought a beautiful new machine, thinking ill be able to finally game propelly, to only find that.. I get these 2-5seconds where my gaming ( World of Warcraft ) freezes completely. Basically from what i've read its something to do with Vistas wireless that searches for a new and better connection every 60seconds. My computer is NOT connected to the router, it has a 3/5 signal strength and my ping is OK. Its just these lag spikes that are killing me. I've tried VISTA Anti-LAg and the WLAN optimizer. Nothing works at all. Anyone have ANY other suggestions as to what i can do to get rid of these 2-5second lag spike/freezes with my gaming? Im running VISTA Premium x64bit...

I found this forum while googling for my problem with no look. I recently upgraded from Windows XP Professional 64 to Windows Vista Ultimate 64 - and I love Vista!
What kills the whole experience is that I can't play my favorite game (Grand Theft Auto IV) cause it ALWAYS get a BSOD within 20 minutes of playing. I don't think i Have a hardware problem as everything worked just fine in XP. The BSODs came the same day as I installed Vista, but only in GTA IV. See BSOD message and screenshot below.
I don't know if this is a problem isolated to GTA IV, but it's the only time I've seen it happen. I've played World of Warcraft and Left 4 Dead for hours without any hangups at all.

The thing is, that it's not the wireless that is lagging, it's not my internet, it's the computer.

In internet games it's so disturbing because i cant pause the game for 60 seconds cause of the lag. So I really would like to hear some help because this is lame.
