Nov 28, 2008My computer freezes up while im gaming not a lot but enough to become annoying the sound still goes but it kind replays the same thing over.

Gaming: Make The Computer Run Fine With Vista-64
Dec 7, 2008Im upgrading my computer of 5 years within the next 2 weeks. I decided to build a sick machine (Intel i7, DDR3, GTX 280 all the goodies.) With doing so, im going to put 64 bit vista on it. Now as far as my use of the computer, well its simple, gaming. Im usually stuck to the World of Warcraft, FPSs, and RTS. I have no idea what im getting into with vista. With what I'm using the computer for, how should I go about doing stuff on windows to prepare the computer. By this I mean, what drivers do I need, what other software should I install. What do I basically need to make the computer run fine with Vista-64

Jun 9, 2008Ok, my computer is fairly new, about 2 1/2 weeks old. And past week or so, I been experiencing random and sudden freezing. The first time it happened was when I was playing BF2. Another time when it happened was when I was browsing the web and listen to iTunes. So far, my computer froze about 6 times. I know it froze because there is a repeating sound of either my game or the songs. And also the Num Lock light won't turn off or on and the mouse pointer is frozen. Hodling CTRL+ALT+Delete does not respond. Just now, while browsing this forum using the key "Page Down", it froze. It's like any sudden movement will freeze my computer.

Sep 13, 2009Recently purchased a Dell Studio 540, I'm running Vista Home Premium 64bit. All was good until i tried to install my wireless adapter (D-Link). System runs ok but then freezes up about 5mins after initial start up. I can take the d-Link adapter out and i don't have this problem so I was thinking the D-link was causing all the problems. I went and purchased an Edimax EW-7728ln wireless PCI Adapter. Installed but I'm still having the same problem, freezes up after initial start up

Apr 26, 2009Allow me to backtrack. A bit over a month ago, my video card started to show some pretty obvious signs of nearing demise. Graphical glitches in video games, random screen black-outs, and even more random total computer lock ups--but only when playing games. So, I replaced it. All was well. Until a couple of weeks ago. Now, all I'm getting is the lock-ups. These stopped when I first replaced the card, and only recently started happening. These locks are...different, though. For starters, they happen whether I'm playing a game or not. I don't have to be doing anything even remotely graphically intensive. Just staring at my desktop after startup will occasionally freeze. That said, it happens most often while I am playing games--but a counter to that would be that most of the time I'm on my computer, I'm doing that. So it's not exactly a reliable conclusion.
Something else strange about these freezes is that...they usually come to a slow halt, rather than slamming on the breaks. It's most noticeable when I'm typing. Letters will show up a split second late and within a few seconds, the computer is a brick until I manually reboot it. I've tried a few things. The video card is seated properly, the drivers are up to date. I cleaned out what little dust was in my computer. I defragmented. I tried to reinstall Vista. Tried to. I pop the disk in and it does its thing for what feels like forever, only to give me an error message and revert my system back to before it started. Honestly, I didn't write the error down though I know I should have. It was dawn, and I was too busy slamming my head against my desk.
Computer Starts Freezing
Jan 13, 2010My computer has been working fine for about a year and a half, then suddenly, this morning my computer starts freezing in a number of different scenarios. here we go... watching movies,,using the internet explorer?,loading savegames for pretty much any game my animated screen saver,,loading windows media player (sometimes it can manage it),any activity that seems to require even a little bit of graphics grunt. What happens in all situations is that the picture freezes and appears to go from 32 bit colour to like 256 colours, if there is sounds that freezes a few seconds later, and then stutters. Occassionaly the screen turns off or there is a blue screen with the windows error message, however it only stays for a few seconds and has considerable image noise.
this is what i have tested/tried so far
virus/spyware >>>> fine
graphics card fan >>>>> fine
system restore >>>>> did nothing
updated graphics drivers >>>> did nothing
I think that my graphics card has died, but I don't think this explains why internet explorer causes freezes or why the sound freezes.
Gaming And Windows (XP Vs. (32/64), OS Prefer For Hardcore Gaming
Mar 23, 2008I am getting a new gaming system and am wondering which OS people prefer for hardcore gaming. I will also be doing some DVD authoring as well. I have heard some bad things about Vista and gaming and was wondering if alot of the bugs have been fixed. Also, if you do recommed Vista over XP, which version do you recommend 32 or 64. Sep 25, 2009my computer started lagging and freezing on me to the point that i had to shut it off by holding the power button eventualy i got it running agin and an hour or two later it started lagging and freezeing again. I tryed to boot in safe mode (and i know it was a bad idea) it seemed like it forze agoin while loading the drivers and i had to manualy shut it off again now when ever it starts up all ican do is start windows normaly or lanuch startup repair. now i've tried both, when i try and start normaly a blue screen appeares too fast for me to read something about unable to move something and if i try launch startup repair all i get is a black screen and a mouse and im starting to panic a little bit

Aug 5, 2008the problem is what I start up Combat Arms, I get a brief period of everything on my computer freezing. When I try to goto options if I click any tap or press OK I get a period where my computer just freezes for about 10 mins. I can't Ctrl+Alt+Del or alt+f4 out of it. This also happens when I start a game, not join one but when the actually gameplay starts, and I also get it when die and respawn for about 1-2 mins.

Nov 12, 2009One game I tried recently was Callof Juarez. A friend brought it over to try and see if it would work after I told him I have trouble getting games to work. I can only find generic Aspire manuals online, nothing specific to my model.
I have tried to see what kind of video card is installed but in my device manager, under sound, audio controllers it only describes the audio cards, no mention of video card. I therefore assume it is a generic card that probably is not capable of gaming, BUT Acer did give me a nice screen saver that shows a clip on gaming, (b-astard-o's)...........

SP1 Gaming Performance
Mar 23, 2008Just wondering if anyone has had any issues and/or problems since SP1 was released today.I know it may be too early to tell what with the manufacturers rushing to create drivers that will actually take advantage of the over 550 hotfixes incorperated into SP1, but so far for me at least I have seen at least a 20% increase in overall gaming performance and system response. One main thing I've seen that has not improved is any source games. It seems the source engine is either not a fan of vista, or the 8800 series cards. But as for games such as World of Warcraft and Unreal Tournament III, all seem to have an increase in FPS and load times.If anyone has a positive or negative comments for SP1, please let me know; very curious to see what Microsoft has accomplished/screwed up.

As times goes on, technology inevitably advances. Back in the 1980s, words like megabyte were considered to represent a large amount of space on a hard drive or in total system ram. In the mid 1990s, we began to see megabytes in mass numbers when it came to RAM. At present, we are in the midst of the first decade in the 21st century: Hard drives are just now begining to be meassured in terabytes and ram is being meassured in multiple gigs.
With the increase in horsepower and ranchspace that fuels PCs as they advance, software becomes hungrier and hungrier of these resources. If you try to run Windows XP on a PC built for Windows 95, you will note that the entire system may come to a hault. Likewise, if you attempt to run Windows Vista and DirectX10 games on a machine built for Windows XP, you will encounter similar results!
This means that with each new installment of Windows that there is a new set of standards for system requirements to run the operating system. Windows Vista is more hungry than Windows XP when it comes to your system's resources. Everything you run will run slower on Vista due to the simple fact that Vista uses more of your system, so, do not post your frame rates and ask us, "why are they lower!?".
Windows XP was designed to run with a reccomended 512mb of ram and an optimal 2gb of ram for gaming. If you disagree with me, try running Battlefield 2142 in Titan Game Mode on a 64 person server with maximum detail if you think windows XP doesn't want 2gb of ram for optimal performance. When converting to windows vista it is important to note, Vista uses more of your base system, so, your system should be proportionately stronger in order to strong the performance dip!..................
Wireless Lag Spikes And Gaming
Jul 25, 2008Basically im quite upset and angry at the fact i just bought a beautiful new machine, thinking ill be able to finally game propelly, to only find that.. I get these 2-5seconds where my gaming ( World of Warcraft ) freezes completely. Basically from what i've read its something to do with Vistas wireless that searches for a new and better connection every 60seconds. My computer is NOT connected to the router, it has a 3/5 signal strength and my ping is OK. Its just these lag spikes that are killing me. I've tried VISTA Anti-LAg and the WLAN optimizer. Nothing works at all. Anyone have ANY other suggestions as to what i can do to get rid of these 2-5second lag spike/freezes with my gaming? Im running VISTA Premium x64bit...

Jan 4, 2009I found this forum while googling for my problem with no look. I recently upgraded from Windows XP Professional 64 to Windows Vista Ultimate 64 - and I love Vista!
What kills the whole experience is that I can't play my favorite game (Grand Theft Auto IV) cause it ALWAYS get a BSOD within 20 minutes of playing. I don't think i Have a hardware problem as everything worked just fine in XP. The BSODs came the same day as I installed Vista, but only in GTA IV. See BSOD message and screenshot below.
I don't know if this is a problem isolated to GTA IV, but it's the only time I've seen it happen. I've played World of Warcraft and Left 4 Dead for hours without any hangups at all.

Lag Moments When Working/gaming
Oct 24, 2009i have been pissed off by something that almost every 60 seconds, my computer goes really slow, internet browser is hard to open, my games lag like hell, and stuff like that. And I have searched for help from all the internet, but all of them are saying that i should reboot my WLAN or something. The thing is, that it's not the wireless that is lagging, it's not my internet, it's the computer.
I have an awesome laptop that runs nearly every game perfectly, but every 60 secs, my laptop lags like hell and it's annoying to play. And even when i am playing singleplayer, it still lags. In internet games it's so disturbing because i cant pause the game for 60 seconds cause of the lag. So I really would like to hear some help because this is lame.
32 Bit:hardcore Not The Best Gaming Capabilities
Jan 16, 2008I'm new to this forum and I'm planning on buying a vista32 CPU in a few days that will solely be used for Internet and gaming...but not hardcore gotta be the best gaming capabilities. When it comes to gaming, does Vista32 bit have as many issues as 64 bit? Seeing how XP is 32 bit and games work fine on my old rig. Is that the issue here, that 64 bit is ahead of its time? May 21, 2009I play Online game Lineage2. For some reason a few days ago something started to happen with the interface of gaming windows. If I open a few windows the picture starts to go into the lag mode. And this is without even log in the game, just interface. I got Vista Ultimate 64, and I could open up to 10 windows of that game and be online in all of them at the same time, to just few days ago. I dont know what happen. May be something with ram, or CPU, or something else? Unfortunately I am not very klever will all the technical sides of the computer. I do know things, but not as much as you professionals.

I am an avid World of Warcraft and Counterstrike player. I want to improve the performance of my system. Frame rates stink when the graphics are maxed. This system should be performing a lot better. Sometime frame rates drop to 20FPS. Been reading a lot of stuff on-line about improving performance. First off when I run SLI mode games usually lock-up. Been told by Blizzard tech support that they don't support SLI. Ready to pull my hair out!

Feb 8, 2008I have been trying to install Vista for days now on my new gaming machine but it just won't work. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Rev 2.1 mobo, Gigabyte 8800GT graphics card, 2 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB drives in RAID 0 and 4GB of TEAM Xtreem Dark PC2-6400 CL4 ram. I have been into the BIOS and enabled RAID and setup a RAID array in RAID BIOS. I have also downloaded the correct RAID driver from the Gigabyte website and I load it when windows prompts me. Here is what's happening.
Everything good during windows install until it gets to completing installation part. Computer restarts as it says and then continues to install windows. Screen goes black and I lose power to mouse, keyboard and all usb ports. If it is my RAID array being incorrectly setup what would it be that I have done wrong? The BIOS seems very simple so I don't quite know how I would have made a mistake. The only thing I can think of is the stripe size part which I left at 128KB.
I have 4GB of ram in 4x1GB sticks which came in pairs. I put one pair in one colour slot and the other pair in the other colour slot. Could this be an issue? I haven't done anything with the ram in the BIOS. In the BIOS do I need SATA AHCI Mode enabled? It's currently disabled. I put my drives in the yellow SATAII0 and SATAII1 ports and my cd drive in the SATAII2 port. Is this correct?
