While installing programs on Vista Home Premium, I note that several programs are similar in function, but when listed alphabetically, they are not organized the way I would like them. How do I move Program Folders D, L, Q and R into the Program A folder? Say, one at a time for starters.

I'm pretty sure it's possible and all I have to do is modify a system file or some ****, but where would I go about doing such a thing?
Above picture isn't mine, due to my print screen not working, but I have near all of the right panes contents off (via Start Menu Properties), thus why I'm wanting to put my own custom shortcuts there.
I must say I'm very impressed with speech recognition. I'm proud to be one of the stubborn first users to insist to use speech recognition even though I've made my computer use extremely comfortable using either the mouse or the keyboard (hopefully soon I can add or speech recognition).
Am I the only using speech recognition? I'm interested to know if there others using speech recognition, and how they're using it. The entire writing of this post, including opening Firefox, opening my password manager, logging in to and navigating through Vista forums, setting cookie options, editing and posting this thread was done solely using Windows speech recognition without mouse or keyboard (in a record breaking 40 minutes!).
You know when you make a standard account, it creates a load of folders on the C: drive. I have more than a tera byte because of the volume of files on the drive. Way too many to even consider using C: for anything more than the absolute minimum required OS.
I think back to my C=3D 64/128 and the GEOS OS. Even though it was all on the same drive, it was arranged more like an office, than any windows OS I've ever seen or used. Is there a way to take the 'pictures, music, documents, personal, etc..' and convert those folders to shortcuts to my actual pictures, documents, music, etc. that ALL programs can see and access?
I've recently helped a friend set up his laptop with 64-bit Vista Home Premium. Since the Programs menu (classic start menu setup) looks like an overflowing junk room after everything gets installed, I made it tidier by getting rid of some shortcuts that weren't needed and organizing others in easy to manage category folders. I was able to create all the folders I needed in ...All Users...Start MenuPrograms, but a folder named "Programs" doesn't show up among the other folders when I go to Start > Programs. Since I've never had any problems before with a sub folder by the same name as the folder above it in hierarchy, I'm thinking this might be a bug. When I check with Windows Explorer, the ...All Users...Start MenuProgramsPrograms folder is there along with all the shortcuts that have been put in it, but it's just not showing up on the Start menu. All the other folders I created such as Utilities, Graphics, Multimedia and Internet do show in Start > Programs along with all the shortcuts I put in them.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIve been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i go to start, all programs, all my folders/programs show up, but then i noticed that theres a "programs" folder within the list, and when i click that, it shows all the same folders/programs that are in the "all programs" list. but then some of the folders within the ones in the 'all programs" list, they are empty, but they show up in the programs folder in the list. i dont know how this happened and i just wanted to know how to fix this issue.

A local retailer tells me that Windows 7 doesn't have the programs divided into these two sections, and doesn't know what 'X86' means. View 4 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if anyone knows what is wrong with my laptop.. Recently my roommates and I got Left 4 Dead, and while playing it would constantly crash to my desktop. It wasn't that big a deal because I could just get back on, but when I shut my computer off, it seemed to have corrupted something, as now I can't do anything on it. One of my roommates had the same thing, where after a restart his screen was messed up, but he was able to clear the problem by installing new graphics drivers. I uninstalled mine and reinstalled new ones, but that didn't fix the problem. I tried it again, but I couldn't get on the internet to get new drivers, so it's using the crappy basic ones. I don't know if this is the right place, and you probably need more info, so feel free to ask me more....I have tried to run a chkdsk, but it will not run at startup (just goes straight to logon). I have been following tutorials around this site, but to no avail. I think I'll give it a few hours then try again and check back here,
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a virus a couple of weeks ago and had it removed, but since the removal my computer won't open up any programs without going through default programs. If I click an icon on my desktop default programs pops up and I have to find the right program to open the programs with. I was reading some other posts and saw one that suggested that I download PC Medkit, I did it and it did not work. So now I'm out $40 and my computer still isn't functioning properly. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful.

I've just re-installed Windows Vista because I was having start-up issues. I can see all the old programs I had in the Windows.old folder and I'd like to have all those programs on the new install. Is there an easy way to do this, or do i have to manually transfer all the files and then re-install them?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy IP which is Windstream (formerly Alltel) is where I 'go' to 1st check my email so that I 'use THEIR servers' protection to weed out virus, etc.; Windstream says once I 'open' the program, it immediately 'dumps' it into my email program. However, it is sending it to IncrediMail (and NOT to Microsoft Office Outlook 2007). Do I HAVE to 'uninstall' "IncrediMail"? I like some of its 'features', but it gets slow. The 'gold pearl' button that 'shows up in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 is gone...so apparently I do NOT get my email 'dumped' there and I think I'd rather have it there. Using VISTA Business on a 64x2 dual core processor w/3GB of memory. View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently had someone load VMware Workstation 6 on my new Dell desktop, which uses a Vista 64-bit platform. I now have the capability to run a Vista 32-bit platform by clicking on a desktop icon (situated on the 64-bit platform). I need occasionally to run dBase III programs in a 32-bit environment, which obviously a 64-bit environment will not tolerate. I connect to the Internet on a wireless basis, using a RangeMax Wireless-N USB 2.0 Adapter. This Internet connection works fine on the 64-bit platform. In the 32-bit environment, I am able to make a local network connection, but I am not able to connect to the Internet. When in Windows Explorer (32-bit platform), I do not see any USB ports enabled. The individual who installed the VMware said that I should not need a USB port in the 32-bit setup to connect to the Internet. Has anyone had any experience using VMware and establishing Internet connections from other than the base platform?

I am planning on some multimedia work recording music and video. I know that I need a second hard drive. One for the OS and one to record to. The model of PC that I am considering has a RAID configuration using two hard drives. How would these drives appear to me in Vista 64 bit? As one drive? As two? If it is one drive, can I set a partition to have the two drives I need? If so, are partitions difficult to setup?
