Close WMP: Mp3 Or Video Continues To Play
Feb 22, 2009Whenever I am playing an mp3 or video, and I click the x to close wmp the program closes, but the mp3 or video continues to play. How can I correct this?

Feb 26, 2009i just reinstalled vista ultimate x64 on my machine after replacing the motherboard. while in the process of the setting up the system, i found that my video card would work correctly unless i had downloaded the latest drivers [drivers on the disc did not work correctly]. that issue is resolved but thought it might be relevant to this current issue.
if i open ie7 [no add-ons, straight off a fresh install] my computer freezes completely and a reboot is needed. this same issue happens when i try to play a .avi in wmp11. the first time it froze i thought maybe it was the lack of codecs, so i downloaded the cccp. after this was installed, the same issue happened. i then uninstalled cccp and installed vlc, froze just like wmp11 both times before when trying to open video file. i loaded picassa3 on my machine to manage photos, when this begins to search for media, it too freezes just as previously described. i can play videos from hulu.com and Internet no problem......
IE 7 Crashes When Play Video
Jun 11, 2008I have a dell notebook with Vista Home Basic SP1. AVG Anti virus. Starting some point in time (maybe after installing SP1 ??? but I can not guarantee) I can not play video at certain sites. When trying to do that IE crushes. I have tried to remove all IE add-ons and get them back, updated java, Flash Player and directx but no luck until now. Not sure if it relates but I got a suggestion in another forum to specifically set IE as the default web browser instead of: ???Use my current web browser??? (Start-> Default Programs-> Set Program Access and computer defaults -> Custom). But the problem here is that this configuration it is not kept. Meaning: After setting this (and actually any other setting there) and entering this configuration again ??? you can see this configuration remained as it was in the beginning.

Mar 23, 2008i recently had to reinstall my Windows Vista Home Premium. I am not the best with computers, so I am very stuck on this issue. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 M GS video card installed. When I went to put on a screensaver and use the photo option, it said "this computer's video card cannot play themes." I am very confused because before i had to reinstall windows, this option worked perfectly fine.

AVI Video's That Played In XP Wont Play In Vista - Workaround
Mar 23, 2008Apparently Microsoft has "disabled" older codec's which prevents certain AVI's from playing in Vista. If you have Indeo 3.1x AVI's this hack might be useful. Ironically, Microsoft shipped with Vista all three dll's (the codec) needed to play Indeo 3.1x AVI's, so only this registry key is required to enable them. Intel Indeo was sold to Ligos. Ligos states the following:
"the 3.x video codec is no longer available nor supported"
Microsoft recommends that you convert older AVI's and not use this "deprecated" codec.
WARNING: this is a HACK and involves making a single REG_SZ string.If you do not know what the consequences of editing the registry are you should not attempt this. Use this HACK at your own risk and peril.

Dec 27, 2009When I try to play video or audio files on Media Center through the TV via HDMI, the video and audio is very laggy. It also sounds sort of static like. When I play CD's or DVD's the problem is resolved. Also, when I unplug the HDMI, the problem is resolved. Also, when I minimize Media Center, the problem is resolved. It only happens when the HDMI is plugged in and Media Center is Maximized. I have searched all over and have not been able to find a solution to this problem. I have tried changing the HDMI cords and changing the HDMI input on the TV. I've also tried to use a different TV and no luck.

No Video On 64 Startup, Change Video Settings
Apr 19, 2008I have a quad-boot Intel CoreDuo machine with 4 GB of memory and an ATI AIW X1900 Radeon (multi-booting courtesy of EasyBCD). To put the matter as quickly as possible, all four systems (Vista 32, Vista 64, XP, and Ubuntu) have been happily coexisting for a long time. I haven't used Vista 64 for about 10 days and went in to do some work on it this morning. To my surprise, the video disappeared immediately after the green startup wait indicator. Eventually, after about the usual amount of time and hard disk activity, the startup sound came on but absolutely no video. I restored my full backup of the Vista 64 partition from last Sunday=97 same problem!
I went in on safe mode but it is impossible to change video settings or install new drivers in safe mode so that was a dead end. I tried the repair utility that comes with Vista but it could find no problem with startup. My working hypothesis is that something has gone wrong with the video drivers although that may not be the case. Even if it were, I can think of no way of fixing it short of completely rebuilding the Vista 64 system checked desperately do not want to do

Video Streaming Has Pauses In Video And Sound
Jun 28, 2008I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and when I stream videos from websites like Gametrailers.com as either a Windows Media or a Quicktime file the video is choppy and has sound issues. If I download the same video there is no choppyness and once the stream is no longer on HTTP and is on CACHE it is fine. I know i have enough bandwidth for the video and under statistics I does not show any errors .I have all the latest drivers and service packs. I have reinstalled Vista as both 32 bit and 64 bit to see if there was some difference. I also have this same issue on my Laptop running Vista.

IE8 Slow To Close
May 15, 2010I searched for "IE8" and it said no results...find that a little hard to believe
Anyways, odd problem to have. After being logged into Winders for a little while, doing some surfing, etc., I'll go to close IE8, click the red x, and it'll just sit there for 5-6 seconds, and then finally close. If I log off and log back on, it'll behave properly, but sooner or later will start to act up again.
Anyone else run into this? I'm running IE7Pro, but I've been running that for a while now and this has only recently popped up.
Can't Close Anything Open
Mar 29, 2009I can't close anything I open, only through task bar, but the X (close ) minimise maximise etc are disabled plus right click context on the windows only... (I can right click on start taskbar etc)... this is after i installede bootskin (which had an error whilst installing.. about somethign.. then uninstalled it but still foooked vista).. if i cant fix this i need to reinstall never come across this problem before sigh.

so, i think i can turn on windows by sliding the power button anytime - even the lid is closed.
but it is not like that. i can turn on windows when i open the lid only.
i connect my laptop to TV (as dock, via HDMI port) to work and see movies at home.
now, i change the power setting to do nothing when i closing the lid.
its work out, but i still mess up when i thought that i need to open a lid, turn on, and close the lid again!

Jul 28, 2008I'm running Vista x64 Ultimate on a new Dell XPS 1330. I have set the laptop lid power option to "do nothing" (as I've always done). Whenever I close the laptop lid, however, it looks like the machine attempts to suspend, then it reboots and comes back with the "Windows has recovered from a mighty serious error" message. I've searched and searched and not found any answer to this. All my drivers are up to date, I've WindowsUpdated, and I have no oddball hardware etc.

IE 7 Will Close Down If I Type In The Search Bar
Apr 4, 2010I cannot pinpoint the exact date this first started happening, mainly because I use Firefox for most of my browsing. There are however some sites out there that still do not like Firefox.So on the rare occasion I am forced to use IE, I click on the icon IE opens, the second I try and type in the search bar it shuts down. I have tried upgrading to IE 8 and the same problem still exists.I have run my anti virus and also superANTIspyware, to make sure no nasties have made there way in. They both come up clean.Also if I get an email, that has a URL attached, I can click it open (IE is still mydefault browser), and it will take me to the page.But once again the second I try and type something into the search bar wham its gone. and if I try to use ctrl it disappears also.It never used to do this, I have to date tried :-

Close The Lid The System Reboots
Jan 29, 2009About a week ago a strange new problem started. I have a Toshiba laptop with Vista Home and dual core processor. Lately on SOME occasions the computer reboots itself when I close the lid. It does not do it every time and will shut down fine every time normally. But on some shut downs, when I close the lid the system reboots. It might do this a couple of times in a row and it might not do it for 3 or 4 shut downs. I use the shut down from the start menu. I have changed all of the setting for power settings and what to do when the lid is shut to either never or do nothing and it does not affect it. This computer is only about 4 months old. I have done a restore point before this started but no help.

Mar 23, 2008when I send an e-mail it goes directly into my outbox without being sent. I click on Send/Receive but nothing happens. If I then close down windows mail, as I re-open it the mail then gets sent as normal. I have no problem receiving messages.
I have downloaded the 32-bit version update and tried the 64-bit version (says not applicable to my system) but this has made no difference. I am using PC Tools firewall plus and avast anti-virus protection.
Computer Restarts Whenever Close The Lid
Mar 15, 2009I set my power settings to go to sleep upon closing the lid of my laptop, but for some reason over the past few weeks it has decided to randomly restart the computer instead of just going to sleep. This doesn't happen all the time, but with relative frequency. Another problem with it is that every time it does this (meaning everytime it chooses to restart upon closing the lid, not every time I restart otherwise) is that it clears all of my cookies, as well.
