Change ALL 2003.doc Files To 2007 .docx?
Nov 17, 2009
What is the easiest way to change all of my (thousands of) MS Office 97-2003 .doc files to .docx format? When I first bought my HP dv5t laptop a year ago, I also had an older desktop that didn't have Word 2007 on it --- it still had Word 2003, so in order to work back and forth, I saved everything in 97-2003, so I could do that. Now, I'm not using the older desktop anymore, and I can't think of any reason not to save in 2007 .docx format. So, is there some PAINLESS way to convert all of my older 97-2003 .doc files to docx files? I have many thousands of files, so I can't do it individually -- is there some way to do it globally?

I had three MS Word 2007 docx files on my hard drive. I deleted them and emptied the trash. I immediately used some File Recovery programs to try to recover them. The programs were unable to find them. That seems very strange to me. Is it possibly because they are docx files? This is a relatively new file type by Microsoft, right? I am using MS Word with Vista Home Premium.
I should probably add that the programs cannot find files with the names of the files I deleted. Are the names changed when they are deleted and the Recycle Bin emptied? I have heard that files are not wiped clean from your drive. Only the directories are changes, but the data is still there until it is written over..................

With Windows running any Office program besides 07, one cannot -- without downloading an update -- read .docx files. With the new Ubuntu and Open Office, you can and no downloads or updates required.

Originally, I had Office 2003 installed in my computer, & a trial version of 2007 that had already expired.
Today I installed a full version of Microsoft Office 2007, without removing any of the other two versions from my computer. I realized that it seemed to automatically remove the older version. I`m not bother about it not being there, as I got the new version, but I wonder if this is an automatic uninstalling that Office does, or if the version is still there but I can`t see it, as I would like to remove it properly if it`s still somewhere in my computer.
I checked in Control Panel & the only thing I can see is "Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007", the full version I just installed, & everything that come with it. No 2003 anywhere.

I know you can do this document-by-document by opening each document individually and clicking "Upgrade" or whatever, but is there a way to convert all your Office documents at once?

Is there a way to change to a more robust virtual video card in VirtualPC 2007? I would like to experiance the full functionality of Aero in Vista. I'm running Ultimate64 w/ Ultimate32 on the virtual PC. At a minimum I would like to have some control some of the settings the "card" would use and such. Or am I just dreaming? I've googled, and visited many forums but none of the posts seem to address this head on.

I have recently bought a new laptop which runs Vista Business, the problem I am getting is with Access. With my work I use Access databases which have the following files (please be aware I am an absolute novice when it comes to Access I literally fill in the blanks) "rpt.mdb" and "rpt_be.mdb". To start the database I double click rpt.mdb to bring up the front end of my report writing software. When I do this now the screen I usually get isn't complete and I can't access any data or input anything. The files were originally created in Access 2003 and they don't seemed to have converted over well.

I bought a new computer running Vista Home Prem x64 SP1 and installed Outlook 2007. My older computer (XP x32 SP2) has Outlook 2003. Both computers are connected in a home network. All my emails and address book are in Outlook 2003 outlook.pst file. How do I bring that outlook.pst (2003) into Outlook 2007, so that I could have all my emails and address book in Outlook 2007? Right now in my Outlook 2007 my address book is practically blank.

I have a problem within Outlook 2007 when ever I try and search through my emails. Whenever I perform a search of any of my mail folders, I get no results and a message saying 'Search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed. Click here for more details'. When I click for more details, I receive a message saying 'Outlook is currently indexing your items'. And telling me that 7695 items are reminaing in personal folders, and 17987 items are remaining across all open mailboxes. The problem is that this number never goes down, and has been like this ever since I started using the program. Could it be that the indexing is stuck
somehow?

I cannot change any details of all mp3 files such as the name of artist, album, genre and the title on the mp3 file itself. I mean when I right click on a mp3 file and go properties-->details, I cannot change anything here. When I open that file via Tag&Rename, I can see all details of that mp3 file. But on windows I cannot. One week ago there was no proplem. I used CCleaner to clean my registry and afterwards some problems arised.

I recently upgraded from XP to Vista and for the most I really like the improvements. One thing that is annoying me is that if your folder view is details and you have your mouse set to select when you hover your cursor over a file it will select the file even if you hover over the size column or the type column etc. In XP it would only select if you hovered over the name of the file. Is there anyway to change this setting?

I have seen the replies about MSWMM files and understand that I have to change the file extension to something like .WMV. But how do I do this? I have tried various things but none seem to work. The tinyurl references published in other answers don't help, and the Microsoft reference is utterly useless. Why do I get an .MSWMM ext. anyway? SHouldn't Vista automatically supply a useable file extension, or is it something to do with a pre-installed program in my Sony Vaio laptop??? Grateful for advice.

I have been emailing back and forth with a microsoft support technician for the past few days, and they want to reinstall vista with a recovery disc and delete certain program files. They assure me it will not change any of my configurations or files, but I still want to be safe and create a full restore point. I'm not computer savvy at all, and from what I have been reading about restore points, it seems like it will only save your user settings and configuration, but not files.
Long question short, is there any way to create a system restore and save it to a (big) disc to where it saves EVERYTHING on my computer as it is right now? Like as in if something goes wrong I can bring it completely back to what it was before?

Changing the visual style of Windows is something that has become very popular over the years with Windows XP. In Windows Vista, this is just starting to gain momentum with the release of a few cool hacked visual styles. These alternative visual styles are replacements for the default Aero glass style and offer slight tweaks on the design. Over time there will be more and more higher quality visual styles released for Windows Vista.
If you want to get started, you will need to download the hacked visual style skinning engine files from Rafael Rivera’s site. Rafael has both x86 and x64 versions available. These modified system files remove the requirement for visual style files to be digitally signed by Microsoft. If you need help replacing the system files with the modified files, check out my article on working with system files in Windows Vista.
UPDATE: There is now an automated utility that allows you to patch your visual style skinning engine files with just one click. Click here to check it out.
Make sure you replace all three hacked system files:...

I'm just setting up my Outlook now to pull in email from my various accounts and it's being a bear. I finally get it to connect with my AOL inbox, only instead of true inbox titles I'm getting all my deleted mail. To make matters worse, the deleted mail won't allow itself to be moved to the appropriate folder. It tells me: "Can't move the items. Unable to download item contents. You must be online to perform this operation." What the heck? How is it I'm not online when I open up my mailbox?
