Can't Install Anything Or Conect To Wireless
Jun 22, 2009
I cant connect to any wireless network using my laptop. On the network icon in the bottom left of the screen it says Connection status: unknown Access is denied It works fine using the wired connection but it still shows as disconnected! Also when trying to install a program it says The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance. This is all happening when using the main administrator account, when using the standard user account or guest account everything works fine

My thinkpad laptop runs Windows Vista. the wireless worked ok before I install Vista SP1. After installing SP1, I only can actually view my wireless connections, I see everything, but upon connecting I get the "Connection is taking longer than usual" crap. I reinstalled the drivers, but no go. When Vista does the diagnostics, it says "The network adapter 'wireless network connection' is not correctly configured to use the IP protocol'". Then, there are two options below. 1 is about hardware and driver issues, the other is about the internet protocol bindings and IPv4 and Ipv6 being installed (which they are).

I have had no trouble instaling it in the past. But all of a sudden one day I chose to freshly install vista. So using the standard installation procedures and when I went to install my netgear usb wireless adapter Which used to work failed to install. I thought it was the adapter so I upgraded to a very nice d-link usb adapter...and that too failed to install. So I installed a fresh copy of so on he same drive and reformatted it and that worked just fine.
So I tried reinstalling vista and of course it didn't work. So now I'm really confused and typing this on the only available Internet device which happens to be an iPod touch LOL. Does anyone have an idea as to what is going wrong? Btw I have an oem copy of vista ultimate x64 pre sp1. The netgear adapter was the wusb111 and the d-link adapter is the dwa 160.

On my Windows Vista Home Premium system am unable to install my MS Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 v.1.0. My MS Wireless Laser/Keyboard 6000 v.2.0 works fine. I receive a message from my system that Windows needs to install drivers for Microsoft Wireless Desktop Receiver 3.1. The instructions for the Receiver, Keyboard and Mouse, which came together as a package, makes reference to a Help screen, but I cannot find anything installed. I looked at KB940199, and attempted to install the named driver; but I received an error message that Windows encountered an error, 0X8007000d, the Data is invalid.

I cant get on the internet on that pc to check for drivers so im using my laptop but cant find any drivers,Ive also installed driver robot and that came up with a few drivers so i stuck them on a usb stick and installed but no luck.Ive gone into the device manager and under "other devices" the IEEE1394 controller is showing as a little question mark so ive gone into that and its saying no drivers are installed. I think its been like this from the second i installed vista but ive just noticed it when i tried to instal the wireless network card.Any ideas of how to fix this please ? and is it solveable ? I have forgotten the Username and Password for the Login ID... and it is not the default (Username: *blank* Password: admin). I have heard you can hold the reset button on the back of the wireless router but will this reset my wireless network? By that i mean... will i be able to connect with my laptop still through that wireless network or will i have to set it up again?

a friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

I am using a windows Vista 32 bit home premium notebook computer for which the wireless network detection has stopped working. I updated the driver for the built in wireless card with out any results. I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said was working properly and this did not work either. This leaves me to believe that something is wrong with the OS. I can get on the internet via dialup modem and also by the ethernet connection with a DSL modem. I have been to several hotspots that I know have wifi and no networks show up. All critical windows updates have been installed.

I was wondering, is there really much benefit to connecting via Wireless-N as opposed to Wireless-G? Will I notice the difference? I'm on a 10mbit connection, with a Draft-N router, but my desktop isn't Draft N-compatible, but.. I'm not sure if I'd see much of a difference if it was.
I'm considering NWD-170N Draft N (1.0) 300Mbps Laptop PC Card 91-005-159001B ZyXEL Overview ...

I am about to install Vista64 home premium on a new build with 8 megs of RAM. The disk is Vista64 SP1. I was wondering if it is still recommended to install Vista64 with only 1 stick of RAM first prior to installing all 8 megs? Or because the disk has SP1, is this no longer an issue?

I would like to check the memory for errors BEFORE I load/install Windows Vista Home Premium x64 to avoid install hang-ups. Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

I'm assuming a clean install with an upgrade license will be identical to a clean install with a 'full' copy, except that at some point during the process, it will ask for my key for Windows XP? I just want to confirm this is the case before I go buy an upgrade copy. one last question to tack on here - if I have a desktop and a laptop computer will it let me install the same copy and license key of Vista on both? I know some MS products in the past have allowed you to install on more than one computer because they realize a lot of people have more than one computer but they only work with one at a given time.

I've tried numerous times to Install Vista Sp1, but without success. The install appers to go well, reaching 100% at stage 3, but then the screen reports the SP did not successfully install, and proceeds to roll back. On Checking the message in Windows Update, the install failed with error 80004005. I've raised the issue directly with MS, but the advice to install the SP in Safe mode has not helped. I've also trawled various forums and cannot find any reference to the specific error code.
I own a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ1. A number of forums seem to suggest it might be a hardware issue, and I have tried disabling / uninstalling various devices to
see if this helps, but this also has not got me any further. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what this error code means? Is there a way to force the SP to install despite this error code (it does get to 100% at stage 3 after all, so maybe it does install, but one of the packages check routines is picking up an error which doesn't really exist???)

Is there something I'm missing with Vista and wireless, I have to different wireless networks and I now have a Vista laptop in each network that I can't connect to. All firmware/drivers is up to date on the laptop and the routers and I still can't get them to connect but I have no problem with the XP. Side note, I have had both laptops connected and surfing the Web and having access to network shares and what not but they have both since been dropped. I'd be happy to just focus on one of them.

I have a home network with a linksys wrt54gs router and 3 pc's running XP home. home and pro. I got a new Vista computer and inserted a linksys wmp54gs wireless adapter into it. I updated the router firmware a week before I got the new computer. I connected to the internet even though I had the wrong workgroup name. In attempting to find the other computers I fixed the workgroup name so it was the same and tried other things to no avail. I updated the adapter drivers because I found it had generic ones and yesterday I installed Vista SP1.
Now I can't get the internet anymore, much less file sharing. I disabled all firewalls for awhile. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON, Network set to Private, File Sharing: ON, Public Folder Sharing: ON, Password Protected: OFF, Media Sharing: OFF. I've run the repair wizard a number of different ways. I don't know enough to fool with Wireless Network Connection Properties unless someone holds my hand.
Here's what ipconfig says: Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : HPQuad
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
