Connecting A Sony Vaio To Wireless Network: Switch On Wireless Adaptor Capability

Mar 23, 2008

a friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

Wireless Not Working. Wireless Network Detection Has Stopped Working

Apr 11, 2009

I am using a windows Vista 32 bit home premium notebook computer for which the wireless network detection has stopped working. I updated the driver for the built in wireless card with out any results. I also tried a plug in wireless card which windows detected and said was working properly and this did not work either. This leaves me to believe that something is wrong with the OS. I can get on the internet via dialup modem and also by the ethernet connection with a DSL modem. I have been to several hotspots that I know have wifi and no networks show up. All critical windows updates have been installed.

Wireless Draft-N Vs Wireless-G

May 15, 2010

I was wondering, is there really much benefit to connecting via Wireless-N as opposed to Wireless-G? Will I notice the difference? I'm on a 10mbit connection, with a Draft-N router, but my desktop isn't Draft N-compatible, but.. I'm not sure if I'd see much of a difference if it was.

I'm considering NWD-170N Draft N (1.0) 300Mbps Laptop PC Card 91-005-159001B ZyXEL Overview ...

Can't Connect To Wireless

Mar 27, 2008

Is there something I'm missing with Vista and wireless, I have to different wireless networks and I now have a Vista laptop in each network that I can't connect to. All firmware/drivers is up to date on the laptop and the routers and I still can't get them to connect but I have no problem with the XP. Side note, I have had both laptops connected and surfing the Web and having access to network shares and what not but they have both since been dropped. I'd be happy to just focus on one of them.

Wireless Is Not Connecting

Mar 23, 2008

I have a home network with a linksys wrt54gs router and 3 pc's running XP home. home and pro. I got a new Vista computer and inserted a linksys wmp54gs wireless adapter into it. I updated the router firmware a week before I got the new computer. I connected to the internet even though I had the wrong workgroup name. In attempting to find the other computers I fixed the workgroup name so it was the same and tried other things to no avail. I updated the adapter drivers because I found it had generic ones and yesterday I installed Vista SP1.

Now I can't get the internet anymore, much less file sharing. I disabled all firewalls for awhile. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON, Network set to Private, File Sharing: ON, Public Folder Sharing: ON, Password Protected: OFF, Media Sharing: OFF. I've run the repair wizard a number of different ways. I don't know enough to fool with Wireless Network Connection Properties unless someone holds my hand.
Here's what ipconfig says: Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : HPQuad

Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :

Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid

IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No...........

Wireless Not Working After New HD

I have problem with connecting to a network through wireless. I think I got it because I installed a new hd and vista, so my laptop is essentially new. But for some reason, I seem to not be getting any wireless connectivity to the internet. It used to work before my hd broke down, and now, my "new" laptop doesn't seem to know that I have wireless.

The only way I can connect through the internet is by using ethernet and connecting the laptop with my dsl modem.

Wireless Can't Connected

Apr 14, 2009

I'm re-posting this because it is only visible online at the MS website, not on NewsReaders so.... (I'll try again)...I just installed a D-Link DIR-625 router, before, we had a Linksys router with no issues whatsoever. (This is in secure WPA mode, there is no problem in "unsecure" mode) My sons PC has Vista installed. He has a D-Link wireless usb adaptor. Before, with the Linksys router, hookup was as would be expected, find the SSID, click, a prompt for passphrase, sweet. Now what happens is this... I right click the network icon in the taskbar and select "Connect to a network" a list of available networks shows.( as usual) I click our SSID and a different message appears than before, instead of getting the usual prompt for a simple passphrase, I get a "Windows needs more credentials to connect to this network", I click it and then a window appears prompting for...

Username
Password
Domain pass

this is not an option suitable for the usual WPA Personal encryption, first off there is no user name, no domain, its just WPA personal, TKIP,passphrase... what can I do? like I said it connects fine if no encryption is used. and it worked fine Lo these last 2 years with a Linksys WRT54G I'm not very familiar with Vista, I'm an XP man myself (I and my wife have XP, router installed on mine)(My wife has windows XP with a Linksys adaptor and it works fine so I know it is a Vista conflict)

Can't Connect Wireless

u3yy9oJHA.5468@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl> Brand new Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 laptop. Wireless switch at front is on and LED lit but cannot connect wirelessly to 3Com modem/router. Hard wiring via ethernet cable it works but very slow in comparison to XP PC's on same router. Fn + F8 indicates both Wi-fi and Bluetooth are on.Device Manager indicates a problem with Other Devices/Network Controller saying there's no drivers. Network troubleshooting tells me there's no wireless adapter.Updating drivers from Device Manager does nothing. Downloaded Vista drivers from Toshiba gives the same result. Very tempted to put it back in the box and send it back for refund, not another Toshiba, but thought I'd give the groups a try first.

Wireless Zero Configuration Still Not Fixed In SP1

Mar 23, 2008

This message is in regards to the Wireless Zero Configuration not being fixed in SP1. This is a serious issue for multiplayer gaming enthusiasts who play wirelessly. This system causes a lag spike in games that lasts between 1-3 seconds and reoccurs EVERY 60 SECONDS. This is unacceptable! This makes playing games over a wireless connection completely unbearable!

The problem goes like this. Every 60 seconds, via Wlan autoconfig (WZC), my computer (and ANY computer using Vista and wireless connection) attempts to find the best connection. During this time period, if you're doing something intensive with your connection such as playing a game, the connection spikes and causes an intermission between your game and the server you're playing on because your connection is being temporarily interrupted. There are no options to stop WZC from doing this. Manually disabling Wlan autoconfig causes you to be shut out from connecting to the internet at all........

Wireless Adapter Keeps Disconnecting

Mar 23, 2008

I recenctly bought a new machine that has Vista Basic installed on it. I installed the latest drivers for my Netgear wireless adapter which are supposed to be Vista compatible. However, although I can get connected, I often have to mess around with the networking settings first and then the connection will only last around 15 minutes before the adapters led stops flashing. I then have to reboot to get a connection again. I tried the adapter back n my old XP machine and it is fine. As soon as the XP machine boots, the led indicator starts flashing and it doesn't stop until you shut down. With the Vista machine, the adapter often doesn't start flashing until you actually connect and then it will just stop after a short while. I've been messing around with this for weeks now and got nowhere. I would have suspected the adapter drivers, but it seems as though there are a lot of other people with the same problem on different adapters.

This laptop runs on windows Vista Basic and was working fine this morning but as of this afternoon cannot connect to internet or email.

I have tried to re-connect but I keep on receivibg the error page stating that " windows cannot find any networks "

When I click on the link below this message which is " diagnose why windows cant find any networks" a window named windows network diagnostics appears stating " this computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured "

Does anyone have any solutions to this problem as it was working fine ( wireless ) this morning and now not?
