Aero Disappearing

I have Nvidia 8800Gt Up-to-date Drivers 1tb Hd Runnign Vista Ulti 32 and i just applied a crap load of patches last night and then Sp2 about a hour ago. And now Aero disappeared, Checked Services and all that jazz, everything is running. Already redid my score. Every time i try a Theme the uses Aero i get Windows Classic. Along with SP2 Windows Poweshell was installed, could that be messing it up? I dont have anything but updates recently installed. no incompatibility programs. I heard that sometimes when u apply Service patches ur Serial can mess up and might need re-activation? Cuz i remember before i bought a Ultimate Serial after the time limit i couldn't use Aero. I upgraded from Basic to Ulti. So yea, Checked the services, did the score, checked reg, checked processes, and tried most of things suggested on the forums.

I have a big problem with windows vista. I really want to get the aero theme working but I am failing at it. I have windows vista home premium 32bit. I also have 2 gb memory , 2.66 GHz, My resolution at the moment is 1024x768. I have a 19 inch widescreen (dell). Here are some pictures that might help you tell me what my problem is........

I've got an Sony VGN-BX197XP laptop that I've upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate. Since then I've encountered some strange display-related issues:
1) I could only boot into Aero about 50% of the time. The rest of the time I forced onto the Standard theme with no Aero option. Since installing Vista SP1 I can't get Aero at all.
2) When not running in Aero mode I can't get the Windows Media Player to play video files, nor get a Perfomance Index.
3) If I plug in an external monitor I can't get a picture on the laptop monitor but I *do* get a picture on the external monitor and it runs Aero 100% of the time. It will also play video files and give me a performance index.

I have tried rebuilding the Icon cache, but this didnt quite work for me.
Is it because im using 32 bit?
my icons are like disappearing and i have no idea what to do.

I have tried on two pcs (I only have vista pcs now) with two different user accounts but with no success the posts have never been downloaded or displayed or deleted, they just dont exist as far as mail is concerned I have downloaded thunderbird and the messages appear as they should. I dont like thunderbird, I find it difficult and unintuitive, but at least it works

I recently got a new computer that had a 70GB HD. I've been using it for a few months, adding pictures and downloading a few things periodically. Primarily it's been used for surfing the net and checking e-mail, light stuff. However, I'm down to about 27GBs and have not added nowhere near 43GBs worth ofmaterial to the PC. Any idea where the memory has gone and how I can get it back? I have checked the temp files and internet files as well and they are long gone

Since Saturday my emails that I have read and kept in my inbox have disappeared. In fact anything more than 3 days old is gone also. They are not in the deleted folder either.

Why is it I seem to now lose my passwords, every time I start up IE7 I have to log into programs or sites (like Yahoo or Google.) Never seen this before- did I check something by accident?

The problem now is that when he clicks on an mp3 or doc file (those are the ones I was able to check) when on the net with internet explorer 7 the download disappears. It pops up with the window to download the file. I removed the check in the "close window when complete" (or whatever it says). You can watch it download the file but when the download is finished the window closes. When you go to the appropriate folder nothing is there. I have even searched the computer with the file name and nothing. It doesn't even attempt to open media player (11) to play the file. He said both the mp3 and pdf issue started at the same time (don't know if that is coincidence or not) and was surprised when I pointed out the same thing with the doc file and no attempt made by computer to open Word. I did download firefox and clicked on an mp3 file and it played fine. Thinking we just needed to repair IE7 I went to M$ site and quickly learned that you cannot download ie7 if you already have it on your computer.

One day I was on the internet and when I closed it I noticed that my icons were gone. I was like wtf. I unclicked show icons and clicked it again and they call came up but in a different way than what I had them. So i spent some time arranging them the way they were. Now everytime I start up my computer they are gone. I do the same procedure but I dont have to rearrange them they are in the right spot. I have searched and came across a guy with the same problem but no one has helped him and it was asked like over a year ago. I did virus checks, updated my virus programs, reset icon cache, and refreshed it. None of the tips worked. I dont want to have to do this everytime I start my computer.

This has happenend several times: Vista; When I open my e-mail, some email just disappears, it's not in any folder, it's just gone. I''ve read other threads that say make sure you are are set to show all messages and I am. What next?

When I am in my email account I can look at an email and all of a sudden it is gone. I have checked the deleted and junk folders and it isn't in them. This has happened several times in the past two wookes. Where do I find them or how do I stop this from happening?

I was looking around at settings The change allowed me to look at several restored down windows back and forth simply by hovering the mouse overtop. That all works fine unless I have only one window open. As soon as the mouse moves off the page it disappears into the taskbar. It is difficult to get the window from the taskbar to the screen and get my mouse on it all at the same time to keep it there. I have looked though every setting on the Logitech/Setpoint download that came with my wireless mouse and can't find it there. I am not sure where else to look. I'm using Vista Home Premium 32 bit that came with my HP Pavilion dv 9000 laptop.

I have run into a problem, that is I can download zip files (i.e. I can see them coming across the network with device manager and see them building up in the download window and see the file name and part name in the destination directory) but when the download completes the part file disappears and the working file has zero bytes in it.

why any system restore point that I (or the system) create disappears as soon as my PC is restarted/rebooted? I'm not dual booting. I'm not using Norton (am using Kaspersky and restore is in the list of trusted applications). There is 300 gig spare on the HD. Restore is enabled on my HD. I couldn't see an answer in the "bertk" links posted on similar threads.

quick launch was working OK btu then yesterday suddenly my machien froze and the quick launch disappeared. I restarted my machine and yet it was still missing. the odd thing was all my logins and passwords were dleted as well. i went to the properties section and ticked quick launch hit apply nothing happened. it ok and still nothing happened. so i went back into properties and it was untick even though i had ticked it hit apply and ok. it seems it will not register the accpetance. i have restarted my machine several times
btu nothi seems to bring it back

I am absolutely going mad trying to fix this. I have purchased a laptop with Vista Home Premium installed ( I am a Vista novice BTW). Created a new profile for my partner ( mine is set up as the administrator) and transferred some pictures to the Desktop. Few days later I couldn't see the folder containing the pictures on the desktop; I tracked it back through the explorer. I transfer them to the documents folder ad The next time it is completely disappeared. Same happened with my pictures later on in my profile. I have searched the pictures everywhere, nothing and of course I have not deleted them, but they seem disappeared. I have tried a recovery software and nothing. Now, recoveing pictures would be good, but avoiding this happening again is my main concern.
I have also noticed that when downloading the software I use looses the link to the folder where the files are stored. it seems there is something wrong with the default folders set up in my profile (Documents, downloads, Pictures and so on).

I cannot download anything from the internet. I have tried all the suggestions I have found and still no luck. I have made sure that file download is on, I have tried unsuccessfully to system restore, I have turned off Windows fire wall and defender, I changed the user setting, I tried to uninstall windows defender, but Vista won't let me.I reset the internet settings. I am at my wit's end. This started happening right after I downloaded Norton. From what I can see from the different forums I've been to, no one seems sure if it is a Vista problem or a Norton problem. The only good thing so far is that my computer is a lot faster
now that Windows defender and fire wall is off. I can't even download Windows7.

I have a Gateway Desktop model GM563E with a Vista Home Premium operating system. After installing Vista update 938371 released 4/8/08, my mouse pointer disappeared (while keyboard functions still worked). Changing mouse settings and installing a new mouse did not remedy the problem. I needed to do a system restore and remove the Vista update to make the pointer work again. Has anyone else had this problem?

I find that when I have a message in the outbox and the message is no longer "unread," it disappears regardless of whether it was sent! I believe this is the cause for two current problems:
1. everytime I close Windows Mail, I receive the message "You have unsent messages in your Outbox. Do you want to send them now?" Of course I always click "yes," but the truth is there are no messages in my outbox, and even if I click yes, I will be given the same message if I open and close Windows Mail again. It is chronic!
2. I cannot be sure if a message was actually sent after it's been read and disappears from my outbox. Just this morning, I read a message in my outbox. It became "read," then it disappeared. When I hit send/receive, it successfully "sent" the message according to the action item, but then it failed to move the message from my outbox to the sent folder. So now the mail has disappeared and I have no record of it ever being in existence.

There's quite a lot about limited restore point history around, but just to add some more info of my own and to plead again for assistance! Since recently posting about how woefully few restore points I have I've been watching them... I think I racked up 5 or 6 (spanning a magnificent 4-5 days) and then all but one disappeared.Yesterday (27 Feb) 2 new restore points were created (between midnight and 1am) - one scheduled and then one as a result of a Windows Update. Then, between 03:20 and 05:00 I find 4 instance of volsnap helpfully reporting that "The oldest shadow copy of volume C: was deleted to keep disk space usage for shadow copies of volume C: below the user defined limit." - and then another two deletions at 16:45 and 23:28..............

Just two days ago my mail disappears on my screen from my inbox. I noticed that after the mailbox symbol appears open, the mail disappears until they are all gone. I searched for them and found them. I copied them all to my inbox so I could see them but then it did it again. Somewhere I saw that they are all there in my inbox, I just can't see them.

It had Vista Home Premium installed on it. She has been using the computer to store school-related documents; class notes, chapter reviews, etc. She turned the computer on this morning, and all of her desktop folders with the school-related documents were gone. I searched for the files and found them in her C drive, under her username and AppData. No matter what I do, I can't seem to pull those files out or view them. I tried ShadowExplorer and that did not
What I think happened is that in switching between two networks (one at home and one at school) her desktop files were relocated from her C drive to the school network. I don't know how that happened or if that is even possible. She often does not shutdown her computer when she leaves school. So, as I have seen in the past, her Dell cannot connect to the school network, but no errors come up as she edits documents and saves those changes. Is there anything I'm missing here? Could there be a simpler solution? Could some files have been corrupted and are those files lost for good?

Sometimes I can see the memory card installed on my HP printer and can access it through my desktop and notebook as a drive (Z:). Other times it just disappears and even if I type in the address it can not be found.

I have only been using Vista for 2 days, and am having trouble with received emails disappearing. I was checking my inbox, and watched 4 emails being received, then one of them just vanished. The message said 4 new messages. I have checked deleted items and junk e-mail. The current view is set to show all messages. I have McAfee Security Centre installed. Have checked the logs but nothing there either.

I've seen this problem posted a number of times, and either there's no fix for it or it was attributed to something that doesn't apply to my situation. Here's the description:
- With Firefox and Google Talk, any downloaded file cannot be opened by the program.
- IE8 and Chrome both work, and since I use Chrome for everything, I never noticed the issue in Firefox. File transfer in Google Talk has been screwed since I installed Vista.
- It happens when they're run in Administrator Mode as well
- The files do not appear in the specified Download directory (my UserDownload folder)
- A search shows that the files do not exist -anywhere- on any of my HDs
- The files aren't in AppDataTemp either
- I do NOT have AVG, nor have I ever had it installed on any of my HDs, ever
- The account I use is the original account I created on install, and has Administrator privileges
- I have already granted special permissions for all Users to Create/Modify files within the folder
- The User folders are not in their original location. They've been moved to a separate HD specifically for Docs/Downloads.
The most common answer I see is "Turn off UAC," but I see that as a last resort and would prefer a different solution. I'm tempted to just switch to 7 today and deal with the RC but I'm wary of the problem not being fixed there either.

I'm just about at wits end here. I've got an external HDD (Cavalry 2 X 500 GB = 1TB) that I usually plug in via e-SATA. It is currently setup in a SAFE33 configuration. It was working great on my old XP machine, and when I changed that machine to Vista Business (same everything, just plugged in a different boot disk and unplugged the old one) it continued to work great.
Then I did the following two things:
1) Tinkered with some permissions to allow only administrators access to some backups on the eHDD.
2) Went back to my old boot disk and tried to find the drive in XP.
When I did this the drive was not visible at all in XP. Now it is not visible in Vista either (not under Computer, Disk Management, or even BIOS). It is also not visible on my laptop (it had been previously). I have tried both e-SATA and USB connectors in multiple ports.
When I turn the drive on while either OS is running the machine freezes about 1 out of 5 times. Other times the eHDD turns on and I hear the disks spin up to speed, but the drive access LEDs never come on.
Don't know if this is related or not but I am also unable to load XP now, it stops on a driver called SPTD.sys.

Local Folders created to store mail messages such as, receipts for online payments, passwords, etc. have been disappearing. I did not delete them and can't find information related to saved folders or options related to saving email messages. Sending/receiving emails works fine and since the files were stored for many months without an issue, I have to conclude it is a problem with Windows Mail. Formerly I used XP/Outlook Express and had no issue with email saved in local folders. I would like to recover my local files.
