I currently have a whole heap of avi files and I want edit the file descriptions in order to include details like, year, comments, director etc. However when I try to access them the regular way Right click>Properties>Details the only details listed are relating to the actual video data properties. All of the details pane is locked and it wont allow me to change them. For my mp3 files i have no problem putting in the settings I want.

This does not work in Vista x64 or Server 2008 x64 and I have found no explanation on the Internet as of yet. I have not tested in x86 installs of the same OS. Yes, I am running it as administrator while testing, if I do not, I receive Access Denied.

The object is being created just fine. I can use other methods on the object successfully like GetText_. I have found no documentation that says Put_ shouldn't work.
that is an accurate description of my computer. my computer crashes, hangs, restarts without warning, games stop working while playing them(this includes freecell and inkball, different sections if vista stop working and restart. 37 of my problem reports are windows related and none have a solution and the ones that it says have a solution don't make difference(i have 3 of these)and relate to graphics card. i would of least thought that a year after it was released there would be only small or minor problems by now. yes i have all updates of all my computer components including optional updates.

Some of them I can can by deleteing and then re-creating the shortcut, other I can't. I tried the systems restore feature but it failed. It there some easy way to fix this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedVista Basic spa. I have a dvd/cd rw. Although software did come with the drive I don't have it installed at this time because I'm not sure if it has the features I require. The more I look to the internet to try to find out what software I need the worse my headache gets. I'll list the things I want to accomplish and hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction. I'm not sure of some of the terminology either but I'll attempt to explain the best I can
1) I want to be able play regular DVDs on my commuter.
2) While playing the dvd I want to be able to pause and clip the still and save it as a jpg.
3) I want to be able to rip a portion of the DVD and save it to a video file (mpeg, avi...)
4) Then I'd like to be able to rip 5 to 20 seconds of AUDIO of the ripped video (or from the original DVD if that's possible) and save it as a wav file.
5) Create DVDs playable on my DVD player from several video file formats like one can do with Windows DVD Maker but isn't included in Vista Basic. I would prefer a suite with all these feature if possible.
If you are frustrated with any version of Windows you are running or are tired of rebooting your machine frequently or are fed up with the antivirus and security crap or are tired for paying for all of this software or find that Windows Genuine Disadvantage is a nuisance you might want to consider a dual boot machine for a while.
You can dual boot any of the Linux distros fairly easy. Ubuntu is the easiest to use. That is what I did. Soon after I found that going to Windows was very infrequent. The only time I now use Windows is if I do some application development or maybe for some way out photo editing to do some way out task. Even before I know that Linux was a better OS but after using it I am finding out how much better........

I'm trying to install an image editing software called PhotoPlus X2, which claims to be Vista compatible. However, when I run the setup.exe I get a Windows installer error 1619. I'm running Vista Business SP1 x86 and I'm logging in to the desktop with an admin account. Updating the Windows installer to version 4.5 didn't.

As far as I can tell both offer about the same burning / editing options and seems kind of silly to install both if I really only need one or the other.

New Dell computer running that crappy Windows Vista system. After editing any JPEG in Windows Photo Gallery, I get a pop up that "changes to this picture cannot be saved because Photo Gallery has experienced a problem".
These are regular JPEG's that are on my desktop. They are not locked or funny file names, or any of the other obvious problems. Anybody out there able to help a cpu novice on this one? My wife is ready to throw this brand new computer away because of the problems running anything on Vista.BTW,pretty ironic, it is trying to block me out of this site, that it recommends .I go to with problems.
I've been running Vista for about a year. At various times I will open something and it seems that there are "boxes" with red x's and a description. I imagine it is a security thing. Is there someway to shut it off or am I better off leaving it alone. As an example, if I hit the start button and then "help and support" I will get these x's.

I think someone has gained remote access of some kind to my computer, and retrieved a file. Originally based on what i heard through the very thin floor of my room. I.e. i think my housemates got at it and i would like to know for definite as it contains rather sensitive and personal information.
I am not an expert with IT but i will try to explain a little, and will try to answer any further questions to get to the bottom of it. Around 2 months back i noticed a small brown or red icon on my toolbar at the bottom of the screen (perhaps someone might be able to recognise a method from this scrappy description?), this read something along the lines of "connected to -PC",? being the name of a housemate. I terminated the link and confronted them but they deny this. Secondly i have noticed that windows remote access has been enabled, and after some reading up i have found that this is not enabled by default, and as i know very little about software, and know i havent touched it, then this cant be me?

When I type a long article in Notepad & paste into WindowsMail line breaks become messed up, forcing me to go back to editing "business" and click/delete redundant line breaks as often as there're lines in a document, if it's 1000 lines, go ahead and spend time clicking for an hour! This make plain text editor unworkable In Vista +WindowsMail environment, due to weird linebreaks handling. Why do I claim it to be weird? BECAUSE IT WAS PERFECT IN WindowsXP. I could create a simple ad/artcile in Notepad, copy/paste into OutloookExpress --> Newsgroup posting or Email, and no linebreaks stupidity. Another hemorrhoid in Vista, sometimes I have a forbidden thought: If WinXP could live for another 10 years albeit with security updates & new hardware drivers that would be nice. When I hear "Vista" it causes heartburn.

View 6 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

For example, if I want to search my C drive for all PDF files or all photos, the search function won't work without entering text from a file name (which doesn't work, because all files of a particular type don't necessarily share letters or characteristics in their names). Has anyone else experienced this problem, or am I missing something?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhenever I request a "File|Open" or "File|Save" from any application, the mini-Windows-Explorer dialog box that opens freezes and hangs the entire application. Happens with almost all applications. Not limited to just Microsoft programs. It does not matter if I like change the download folder or if I rt click always the same.
Back when it was under warranty Hp tells me to just restore to original settings. I hate to do that. But I am about to see that this might be the only fix for it. (But I am hoping not.) I think it started a long time ago when I was changing the USB ports I used for my external Hard drive and it changed drive letter. (maybe maybe not.. just seems I remember that being something that had happened when I first recall things hanging...) anyway I have all drives in the place I want them now and this issue still happens even if I dont have that external drive plugged in.
When I open a folder with a list of files for all View Options, the files are not listed in proper ascending sequence. I indexed the files to make sure that indexing may not be the factor in the Sort By Name not working properly. After the files were indexed, clicked the Sort By Name item in the View menu item, and the files are stilled not sorted porperly. Has anyone encountered this similar problem ? I suspect this may be a bug in Windows Vista File System. The folder had 87 files in it.

If I switch the View to medium or extra large file icons they appear normal and when I switch the view back to large, they again appear normal. But it created a file on my desktop which is corrupted and the original file is corrupted (neither will open). I cannot delete this file from my desktop or other location now and it has seemed to slow down my PC. When I try to delete, I get a popup box that says "Recycling 1 item... from Desktop, Discovered 0 items (0 bytes)" and it just stays in an neverending do loop. After looking on internet, I have seen that Vista has issues deleting or even moving files.

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy elderly Mother's Vista PC isn't working, and as she relies on this for shopping etc I need to get it working (I am several hundred miles from her). The PC tried to install the latest Vista updates (20/2/2008) but upon restart she gets the message "Windows failed to restart - a recent hardware/software change may be the cause - File windowssystem32winload.exe "The selected file could not be loaded". She doesn't have a start in "normal mode" option. I have walked her through trying system repair/restore using the Vista installation Cd, but after trying to restore she gets the message; "system restore failed due to an unspecified error; "cannot create a file when that file already exists" (0x800700b7) We have tried 3 different restore points with the same result.
