Way To Set Autoplay For Multiple Files Or To Disable It
Jun 30, 2010
the default setting is "music files". Whenever I put a DVD in I have to manually change the setting to "DVD movies". When the DVD is done autoplay automatically returns to "music files". Is there a way to set autoplay for multiple files or to disable it so that my computer will play any media I insert?
I've installed the same version of windows on both HD drives. Then I did format for one of the drives since there was a problem, but when I start my computer he asks me to choose which windows I wish to enter while one doesn't even exist, so any idea how I disable it?
I can't open multiple files and folders, but my little registry hack Copy To, and Move To (info about it here: http://articles.techrepublic.com.com...1-6115665.html) opens up instead. I tried deleting those, but then nothing happens if I try to open multiple files or folders. I don't know when this happened, because I rarely open more than one file/folder simultaneosly.
I've been looking at some of the different processes currently running on my computer, and I recognize most of them. For those that I don't recognize, I usually Google them. Everything is fine, but I was just wondering if its normal to have multiple of the same process? For example, there are currently 5 SVCHOST.EXE's running, two in SYSTEM, two in NETWORK SERVICE, and one in LOCAL SERVICE.
Is it possible to select a large number of files and quickly organise them into folders say alphebetialy. eg Select>Send> aardvark.txt goes to folder named A ,zoo.mp3 goes to folder named z.
Opening Multiple files from Context Menu: Using Windows XP Home SP2, file Explorer, whenever I select multiple files (e.g. .doc, .xls, .jpg, or combinations, etc.), right click, and select the "open" command from the Context menu, for each file, before opening, it displays the "move items" dialog (which I cancel) and then a "copy items" dialog (which I cancel). These extra actions do not occur when I open a single file from the context menu. These extra actions do not occur when I select "preview" or any command other than "open". This problem seems related to "shell.dll", open ommand action settings, registry settings, or shell extension hooks. That is as far as I could get in researching this problem. open action settings, registry key changes, or shell extension hooks I should change using program ShellExView to solve this
I'm having a problem "finding" my music files after I moved some files around on the computer between users. My simple solution was to copy them to an external HD and the re-load them so I searched for all music files then selected all and attempted to copy them to the external HD, but I got an error message: "cannot copy file.cannot read from the source file or disk".
On my D: drive, I have several folders (500 something I think) containing mp3s that I have ripped from my CD collection. What I want to do is transfer all the mp3s contained in these folders to My Music (I have just upgraded to Windows xp media center edition). Rather than going through each folder manually, and going through the time consuming process of selecting, copying and pasting every mp3 in each folder, is there any way I can select all of the mp3s in all of the folders automatically, and have them copied over?
For some reason, windows explorer has started locking up when I open a folder with many video clips in it (pretty much any folder with more than 50).I have a feeling that this is a codec problem, but I've installed pretty much every codec I can find and I'm still getting the problem.
Windows XP Search can get slow if you have a lot of compressed files on your hard drive. Speed up your searches by disabling this. Open the Run command and type the following:
regsvr32 c:winnt\system32zipfldr.dll /u or regsvr32 c:windows\system32zipfldr.dll /u if installed in the windows directory To turn this feature back on: regsvr32 c:winnt\system32zipfldr.dll or regsvr32 c:windows\system32zipfldr.dll if installed in the windows directory
If I disable indexing services will that not allow me to search for files on my comp? Say wma's or mp3's or other file types. What will be the result of disabling it?
First off I am new to the forums and I really hope that someone can help me. I am not sure if I posted this in the right area but hopefully I did. Yesterday I relocated my girlfriends computer. I shut it down, disconnected everything and re-set it all up. Once everything was connected, I turned it on. I noticed that it took forever and that there were a ton of applications being opened upon start up. So I went to run and went to msconfig to disable them all. Afterwoods I restarted the computer. Once it rebooted, I did a disk cleanup as well as a defrag. All went fine. Then a window popped up saying that there was an update available and I agreed to update the computer. I remember it saying that it was a windows service pack 3. Anyway the update went through with no issues to my knowledge. Well this morning she went to use it an dnoticed that there were several problems. One the user account that was established no longer exhists, all of her photos, videos, and music is gone, and the computer is not reconizing the wireless card we have for the internet so she cannot connect. Naturally she is blaming me for all these problems cause I was that last person on the computer and I cannot see how I screwed this all up.
I have this notebook in which windows xp doesn't show the autoplay options any more everytime I put a CD or plug a digital camera or pendrive. Before it used to ask me what to do but now it doesn't do anything. The autoplay is on, and set to 'prompt me what to do' but it just doesn't. There's a service in charge of this (shell hardware detection), and it's running ok, started, automatic, everything is ok. Any suggestions? (besides reinstalling ).I'm not posting the specs for this notebook since I believe it doens't have anything to do with the hardware but if you need them just ask.
I have just installed XP Home SP2. I do not want autoplay. I have checked every box available to disable autoplay. If I insert a CD, it runs. With Win 98 SE, There was a single registry entry that could be changed from 0 (?) to 1 or the opposite.I have searched the various XP websites to no avail.
i recently recovered from a virus and after it my autoplay for any devices that i put in (cds, dvd's, usb) wont autoplay like they used to, i have Windows XP home edition SP2 , how can i fix this?
I am having an annoying problem. I even reformatted my pc to get rid of it and it still does it. Autoplay keeps trying to autoplay when nothing is in there to play. Thanks. Edited: Ok here is the link of what I mean. The autoplay box comes on all the time even when nothing is in any of the drives. I am not trying to run anything btw. Again thanks! http://img103.imageshack.us/img103/2072/examplekh5.jpg Ok guys here is a link that I follwed for turning off autoplay. let me know if this is the correct way of doing it. btw it is still do ing it. Havent rebooted it though. http://features.engadget.com/2004/06...un-on-windows/
Complaint was audio CDs won't play. Think problem is actually autoplay doesn't work. It is enabled for the drives/files. Tried Microsoft autoplay repair tool, Tweak, checked services. Music CDs just won't autoplay
I just got the problem on this month 1. The DVD-rom (mapped drive D:) doesn't autoplay at all, when u remove the disc from the drive, the icon just stays there, but its empty. The only refresh as you reboot the computer. 2. The USB drive (mapped drive F:)doesn't show up at my computer. It'd detected by Adobe reader, and the USB is readable, but it just won't show up in "My Computer" also the list of choice to open the USB from autorun won't show up either. That's pretty gay. What i did: 1. tried mapping drives 2. NOD32 result- virus count:0 unscannable count:4 3. Adaware SE personal: spyware count: 2 (cleaned) 4. ctrl+alt+del check the running stuff by Administrator seems nothing special
Autoplay was disabled by some antivirus program, I want to enable it again but it doesn't work. Both optical and virtual dvd drives have no autoplay. I tried tweakui, set all drives to enable autoplay, but it didn't work.
When you plug in a USB stick with some pictures on it (or you select Content Type: pictures in AutoPlay), you have the option to choose 'Copy pictures to a folder on my computer' when AutoPlay is enabled. Because I also have an external hard-drive, I have disabled AutoPlay. When I connected the external HD, it would always start to rowse/read the entire content of the HD (annoying pop-up I had to cancel) and then it would open the folder. As a consequence, I no longer have the option to choose 'Copy pictures to a folder on my computer', which would launch the Scanner and Camera wizard, when I plug in my USB stick with pictures on it. When I try to manually start the Scanner and Camera wizard (wiaacmgr.exe), I'm getting an error message indicating I don't have any scanners or camera's connected.
The settings for autoplay and cd recording can be tweaked by opening explorer or my computer, right click on the cd-rom drive, then click properties. While this usually works, sometimes it doesn't and you'll have to edit the registry.
You know when you plug your camera into your computer it brings up the picture transfer wizard. well my computer no longer does that and its kind of annoying. anyone know how to reactivate autoplay i guess? ive tried different usb ports and i even uninstalled usb root hubs and rebooted and let them reinstall themselves.
I was cleaning up a friend's PC that had become infected with a variety of trojans, malware and viruses. After cleaning all the pests, the OS (WIN XP Home SP1) remained corrupted. He was able to use the PC but there was no windows update functionality, no firewall, inability to execute certain setup files, no antivirus program and other little funny things going on. We could not execute any firewall or antivirus setup program. User accounts said that he had one user (user1) and a guest account that was turned off. User1 was the administrator. There was no password protection.
Currently whenever I am surfing and I open a new window, instead of the windows that are open appearing down in the task bar, they are appearing as tabs near the top of the screen. I am unable to view more than one window at a time. Or resize them so that I could put more than one at a time on the screen.Im running XP home SP3 IE 7

1---I have just WAYYYYY to many pop-ups about 6-8 an hour, even on idle computer. 2---It is so slow. When minimizing a page, I watch it close from the top of the screen to the bottom and that takes 15 seconds, and sometimes my icons are missing when it finally fully minimizes. 3---After booting up it takes me a good 5 minutes before the mouse's "time-sand" icon to dissappear, therefore not letting me do anything with the computer right away. 4--Sometimes when using websites like "google" or "yahoo" from internet explorer, there is a big delay from when I type in the words, and those words to appear on the screen. 5---Streaming movies from websites are rarely synchronized with the sound and the picture on the screen, something that none of my friends have. 6--I revently purchased an external hard drive, and ever since doing that a message comes up within seconds of turning on my computer that reads something along the lines of "Unkown Devise, hit any key" then it boots up normally (note: The slowness of the computer has happened way before the external harddrive, and purchased it with hopes that would cure some of the problems)
on my home pc I have 3 profiles for each user under documents and settings. the first is user name the second is username.compter name and the third is user name.computer name.000 I was told by someone this could be a virus. I ran macafee and no virus found also use spybot ad-aware and reg mech.
I have reinstalled windows for the 3th or 4th time and I am in the process of reinstalling all my programs, I have a few questions: 1) can I erase the directories the programs previously installed in the old version of windows? As you can see in the attachments, I have installed my windows under the partition D: , so can I just go and erase all the folders of the utilities of my previously installed windows in C: ? 2) just out of curiosity, I tried to run some utilities previously installed and some of them work, other dont work. what does this mean? 3) at the system startup, how can I erase the choice between the 4 windows? I just want to leave this present working version. 4) I noticed a general slowing down of the memory when I run an application, can it be because of this new installation? how can I improve this problem?
