After running windows update i recieve the following message when booting my machine: "STOP: c0000135 {Unable To Locate Component}.This application has failed to start because GDI32.dll was not found. How long should it take to boot my computer? It seems slow to me, for a new computer (about 4 months old).Compaq Presario R3000 notebook, 256K, 80Gigs, P4 (I think), XP, using Norton Anti-Virus, wireless cable internet, sometimes using docking station sometimes not, peripherals are old HP printer/fax/copier/ scanner and occasonally wireless mouse.I'm not sure if I'm just being impatient or if I have some programs that are slowing down the booting process What is the average boot time?
XP boots in 100 seconds.... mines boots up from the time i hit the power button to were it asks me for my pass word in 30 seconds... why would his boot a minute and 10 secs slower then mine? and is 30 seconds a average, good, or bad boot up time? My xp is sp2 x64 quad core processor @ 2.3 w/ 4MB of l2 and l3 and 4 gigs of ram is that good?
Problems have been.#1.would only start in safe mode.#2.if try to start normal hangs up on logo screen.#3.tried to do chkdsk and restarted...after restart wouldnt even go in safe mode(hung up at system32/drivers/agp4440.sys)(also some other files were missing at other times).#4.Could not not access cd rom to burn files(tried to backup drivers and could only send to floppy, which worked ).#5. I erased 1 harddrive with system suite6 professional(only one because windows told me the 2nd one was not formatted)and now i am trying to install windows xp and at first had a hang up at setup on an ntfs file, retried and got "corrupted file sym_hi.sys message".found out online it could be do to bios settings or actual physical sdram memory problems,so i fiddled with bios setttings and got windows to install and restart now it has taken about an hour and a half to finish and finalize.my question is...does anyone know what all this means??is it an old piece of crap?,do the bios settings need changed?
I changed my boot option using msconfig to safe mode. But I didn't realize I needed a local username/ password to login. So now I don't know a local username password and pressing F8 and specifying Normal mode still boots in safe mode.
We have a HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop on Windows XP Pro that is in a crashing cycle of doom and despair. In normal boot it flashes a blue screen of death, but only for a flicker of a second, so you can't read what it's saying. then it reverts to the black screen that allows you to access the safe boot. we've tried the safe boot (it works) and reverting to old configurations, but we can't get the normal boot to work again.
Problem with my PC. It booting very slow-30 min and does not show any text and pictures. After completing booting it works fine. If I re-boot PC it booting normal in 30 sec. I did a lot of things but no result.
I am trying to clean up my hard-drive, and want to run my virus-scan program as well as ad-ware/spyware programs in the safe mode. My computer will bootup fine in normal mode, but will not bootup in any safe mode. It starts loading lines of sys files and stops at mup.sys pauses for about 3 seconds and reboots. It doesn't matter if I try safe mode, safe mode with network, or safe mode with command prompt. Any ideas how to get it to boot to safe mode? I have a new (P9MS)motherboard with a p4 2.8gig cpu 512 meg ram, GForce fx5200 video card, seagate 80 gig 7200 rpm drive.
I have a laptop running XP Sp2 which as of today failes to boot in Normal mode and in Safe Mode. Both modes fail with the same error dialog:mmc.exe Application Error.Unable to reference memory.I have also tried using Last Known good configuration boot option with the same result.I am currently running a chkdsk / p from the recovery console. No hardware or software was installed yesterday and the system was running successfully and then shut down normally without problems.
Very simple problem; my Win XP computer will get up to the Windows XP loading page (the black page with the blue bar moving in the middle), it then gets stuck for about 2/3 minutes and just restarts time and time over again.I do NOT have a virus of any kind, I know this for sure as Safe Mode works and I took an antivirus scan - no virus at all, so I need some help here.
I am working on a Dell Optiplex GX270 that will not boot past the splash screen in normal mode, nor will it go into safe mode. I'm not getting any errors, just a very faint splash screen. So far I've tried (with no success):
1) changing power supplies 2) put in a new video card 3) put in a different hard drive with a fresh Windows XP install 4) different memory
I have a machine running win xp home edition SP2 that will not load windows up unless I do it by way of safe mode. It goes to the black xp screen and hangs up there. I did a system restore to an earlier date in safe mode but when it resarted i got the same results. Is this a symtom of a bad CMOS battery? The system has been running good for 3 years and this just started today.
Recently, I accidentally clicked on a few bad google links. Soon after, my computer started acting weirdly. I started receiving windows notices saying that my computer was infected with spyware. I could tell that these were fake and started scanning my computer with avast anti-virus. It was acting weirdly and then I saw that a window popped up called "vista anti-virus" i then googled this and found that this was a fake anti-virus that would install more viruses on my computer. So, I panicked and manually shut down my computer with the power button and booted into safe mode.
I am working on a Dell GX280 which had issues with its heatsink. Also, at the same time the machine continues to not boot up. It freezes at the Windows XP logo screen. It will not go any further. We think that when the fan started racing the user got worried, pulled the power cord and maybe did damage. However Im still working on fixing it. I can boot up into safe mode, I have disabled all non microsoft items in services and all items in start up and I continue to have the same problem, freezing at start up.
I did a normal shutdown and when I rebooted, I am locked out of my computer. The message is "your account has been disabled, see your system administrator". Is there any way to get back in?
Could a virus do this? It just did this in the middle of a very important e chat and the monitor went off and said power save or whatever, and the computer restarted, its done this twice before.
I have a similar problem and I have no problem starting in safe mode but it won't start in normal mode. Just keeps restarting by it self. Behaves just as arwin describes.
Turn computer on and it log in and i can only go on the internet for 2 minutes but its very very slow, after the 2 minutes the internet stops working, i restart to safemode and everything is fine. I know its some kind of virus but i don't know what. Also when i restart from the normal mode a window comes up saying .neteventbroadcast has to shut down and it tries shutting it down.
My pc, a HP Pavillion running WINXP doesn't shut down properly and I have to do manually holding the turning on botton for couple seconds. What do you think should be and what can I do to solve that
When trying to shut down Windows 2000, My computer will not shut down. It acts like it is going to, but then it doesn't. I don't know what the problem is. I try going through the proper shut down sequence but to no avail will it work
I am running on Microsoft Windows XP Professional, my computer is a e-machines 540. For the life of me my cousin's computer will not run explorer. In normal mode, safe mode, etc it will not run. I can get a command prompt when I run it in Safe Mode with Command Prompt, but in either mode if I Ctrl+Alt+Delete and try and run a new task and type in Explorer, it says that it has encountered a problem and needs to close. Checking the event viewers seems show that most error seem to coming from the hard disk and unexplained application errors, unfortunely I cant cut and paste anything because I have no access to the explorer....any insight?
I have a new HP laptop running on Win XP Prof. When I boot up, I get an error message saying: "Resource file <c_spursdll> not found!". I click "ok" in the error box and it disappears and there doesn't seem to be any problem with performance, software etc, but it's just irritating. I have done a web search for a download of this file, without success.
I installed a Pioneer DVD R/RW into a Dell XP pro machine. Before connecting the cables I downloaded the drivers from the Pioneer website because there was no disc available. I shut down, connected cables, rebooted, went through the found new hardware prompts. The auto driver installer was unable to see the drivers I downloaded. There was an UPGDVD.exe file that accessed DOS and updated the drivers that way. The device works fine. The problem is that I still get a "new hardware found" popup upon start up and following the instructions w/ automatically searching or looking in a specific place is unsuccessful. The device still works fine after canceling the pop up. It is just annoying and I would like to remedy it.
My g/f's computer is running XP and recently its commitment charge is currently triple what you would think is normal (700mb instead of 200mb) from what i can ascertain there are no extra processes running and cpu operation is running around 50% +40% -10%. The odd thing is, the computer has 512mb of ram but even when its sitting on 700mb its slow but not standstill slow.I have rebooted into safe mode and attempted using zone alarm suite, and webroot spysweeper; but both came up with errors requiring restart.I used the trendmicro housecall online scan in normal operation which did not find anything.
800 MHz processor PC with 256MB RAM and a WD hard drive. She runs Windows XP Professional on it. She walked away from her computer for awhile, and when she came back there was a black screen on it saying basically that it couldn't find any of the devices that are actually attached to the computer i.e. hard drive, CD-ROM. It also said boot record not found. So I decided to have her try the Windows Recovery Console to try and help fix the boot.ini file. Well, when she typed in the command, it didn't work and said invalid entry or system drive not found.
I have an HP Pavilion ze4900 notebook computer that was just purchased on November 30th. From the get go it has been displaying the message "Operating System not Found" when I try to boot up. Sometimes I would have to turn it off and on several times for it to boot up, but sometimes that wouldn't work. Usually I would have to boot up from the Recovery CD.
Well anyway after dealing with the system BIOS settings (boot order and whatnot), and repairing the OS twice, I decided to contact HP support. They instructed me to delete the partition on the hard drive, format it, and re-install Windows XP. Okay did that and proceeded to lose everything that was pre-installed on the notebook including the wireless capabilities, the SOUND and video driver, the modem drivers, everything. And for some strange reason none of those drivers are on the recovery CD. So basically the thing is now a peice of dead weight.
Well, I decided that I would just make the best of it and see what I could do to get it reinstalled. Until this morning when I turned it on again, guess what happened? OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND! So I lost everything that I loved and needed from the notebook for nothing because the @#$%! problem is still there!
On my first attempt to boot, the hard drive is not detecte On the second attempt, the bios always sees the hard drive and boot up is normal.I have tested the Seagate hard drive with the Seagate hard drive support tool and all is error free. This is consistent. I can't find anything in the bios where this would be switchable. Boot up order is:1. DVD drive 2. Floppy drive 3. Hard drive Sony Vaio PCV-RZ22G.Windows XP Home. P4-2.4 1 gig ram.
I have an HP Pavillion 553W and for whatever reason tried to install Service Pack 2 on our computer yesterday and when we tried to get on the computer this morning it will not open in normal or safe mode. IT tried to start up goes to the HP screen then to the XP screen and starts over again.
My friend did a windows recovery after he had a black screen when starting windows. Both IE and Firefox had slow connectivity yet I had him do a speedtest with speakeasy.net and it showed good speeds. He says the longer the computer is on, the slower is a surfing the internet. CPU usage is normal.
internet speeds: 2500kbps/400kbps
Could the recovery have messed with his computer networking drivers? He used a gateway recovery disk. His computer is either a gateway or dell computer.
