Update Java And Get Open Office Free
Oct 21, 2007
I keep getting a pop up, bottom right asking me to click on a Java Update, and I will get Open Office Free.
Should I? I am a bit nervous when I get such pop-ups, as to know what to do.
And I dont really want nor NEED 'Open Office Free'. What is it? I already have microsoft office which is more than sufficient.

Windows Update keeps trying to update Office 2003.I have a trial version of Office 2003 that came with my computer.I do not want it at this time, but I may want it at some point in the future.I don't know if it can be hidden from the Windows update but if not, I am not sure how to fully get rid of it.
It has never been "installed."Windows update fails every time, of course, because it isn't now nor has it ever been installed. The biggest problem is that it keeps trying to apply the same updates over and over and over. It slows down the shutdown as it repeats the attempt(s) 3 times before each shutdown and also it keeps downloading the same and or other Windows Updates for Office 2003

for anyone that hasn't followed my threads, My computer is new, and I am just now learning XP. My computer came with XP installed, already on it. I have no CD"S or Programs at all, with it. I have this icon on my desktop that gives me a TRIAL verson, of Microsoft office 2003! Then I have to buy it. Yes, it aggravates me that this isn't already on here. Is there any place possible I can download this from? I have looked on the microsoft websight, and couldn't find it.

When I have Automatic Updates enabled, svchost uses 100% of the CPU. I disabled svchost and am able to use the computer.
With svchost disabled, I can not use Automatic Update. With it enabled, the computer freezes.
Is there a place to update Microsoft Office without having scvhost enabled?

So earlier I was installing a update for my MS Office and one of them was Office XP Service Pack 3 and during the installation, my computer crashed so I had to reboot and when I logged back into Windows, the updates came up again. I installed them fine and then afterwards when I tried starting up Microsoft Word, it gave me an error and says ''Error 2771. An internal error has occurred. RemoveOPSExtensionFeature) Contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance. For information about how to contact PSS, see C:ProgramFilesMicrosoftOfficeOffice101033PSS10R.CHM.'' I have tried re-installing, uninstalling and I keep on getting the same error.

Windows update shield informs me I need to install Office XP SP3. I click on it, but the installation hangs up halfway through asking me to insert the Office XP CD - which I don't have.
Went to Microsoft download page and clicked on full file version (SINCE I don't have the CD), but still get the request to insert the CD halfway through the installation. Since I can't complete the download, the update icon pops up every time I log on. Any suggestions?

When java updates are ready to install, I click install, then it says "preparing to install", but never does. Eventually I get a "server not responding" I have done it many times. I am fixing to try to build a website for our horses, and didn't know if java would have any effect doing that or not. Any, I need to find out what is for security reasons if nothing else. I know there is a way to test the installer, but it is to technical for me to understand. I was hoing some one would have an idea where to start. It's a 3.1 (KB893803) what is it?

I am trying to speed my XP. So I decided to check at ADD AND/OR REMOVE PROGRAMS folder for stuff I could throw away. And there were at least four versions of Java (TM) Updates 2, 3, 5, 7 each one averaging 114 MB. My question is: Can I delete Updates 2, 3 and 5 ? I don't know at all if each Java update is functioning based on the previous one. Can I live only with the last Update, the number 7 ? Or I am just sheltering a lot of space I need for other programs I would like to install.

I am at work on one of the computers on their network. This machine is used my three or four people so how the problem started is just a guess. Word, Excel, Power point all open with "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Professional." If I try to open any file I created in the past, the same thing happens. I thought I would run scanner but apparently that command does not work.

I installed Windows Vista 64 at one point, but my wireless usb adapter didn't have any drivers for windows vista 64 so I reformatted my entire hd and reinstalled win xp home. anyway, the problem is I cannot install the new version of iTunes, openoffice, and Steam. There's probably more programs out there that I cannot install, so I really want to resolve this issue as it is very annoying. everytime I try to install any of these programs i get this message. "The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

I can open the task manager and run programs from it, but all the icons and the start bar are gone. I am not able to open any display controls, nor can I right click and get any options. I'm running Win XP Pro on a Dell Inspiron 8100. The hard drive is partitioned into 2 drives: C and D. C has some Dell stuff, but everything else, including Windows, is on D. When I tried to install an update for SP2, I got an error message that the drive needs 1 more MB of free space. There's only 732KB free on C, but 14GB free on D, so I suspect the update is trying to go to C. Is there any way I can direct updates to D? Or, can the HDD be re-partitioned without losing what's on it?
