I unchecked the address bar, & cannot get it back. I have re checked it, but I only get the word "address", on the far right side of the standard buttons bar.I am probably over looking something simple,

View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Sony Vegas Movie Studio and clicked the installer as I would normally do with any program I would download and a window comes up telling me that my Temp folder (CDocuments and Settings/"name"/Local Settings/Temp) is write protected. I can't do anything >.< I right clicked the Temp folder and unchecked 'Read Only' and applied it, right clicked it again, went back to properties to see if it worked and the box is rechecked again I'm stumped.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am running xp pro. I can not get an internet connection through my ethernet card. When I hook up my modem through usb it works fine but unable to utilize my full download speed capabilities. Hooked the modem up via ethernet to laptop and it worked just fine. The only thing I can find wrong that I don't know how to fix or what is causing it is the fact that the physical address of the card comes up as the broadcast address (FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF). Very strange.

So I pressed home button of my key board so the My Computer window converted to a web page. But after that the address bar disappeared. I closed the window and restart the machine and opened the internet explorer, but still address bar is missing. I checked under the tools and I can see the tick infront of the address bar.

After we install Windows updates, Windows assigns an APIPA address in the 169.254.x.x range, instead of getting an address from the DHCP server. The effect is that the computer loses connectivity with the network and the Internet. You can confirm this problem by running an IPCONFIG and checking for an address in the 169.254 range.
Releasing and renewing the address does not correct the problem. Assigning a static IP address resolved the issue. Searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base, we found a registry hack that will disable APIPA addressing on the computer, and this does correct the problem so the computer can connect to the network again. We assume that the problem is a result of an update from last Tuesday, but we have not determined which update is the problem. We are still looking. Our concern is that as DHCP leases expire with computers in the field, that this effect may appear. If you get calls for loss of network or Internet connectivity, have the user run IPCONFIG, and if they have an APIPA address, the registry hack is outlined in KB article
I am using Windows XP Home edition. How do you delete an address from the list of automatic webb address list in the Address box? I tried highlighting it and entering delete but it doesn't get deleted.

The reason I accept it is bcoz he said I can try to reinstall a win xp with english version (btw, the OS is win xp pro in japanase version). Thus I bought win xp pro sp2 and try to reinstall it, so I reboot fm cd rom and while the windows setup is starting, the system stopped and the message on my screen read as:A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.If this is the first time you've seen this error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:Check for viruses on your computer, resume any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers, check your hard drive to make sure it is porperly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK/F to check hard drive corruption. then restart computer. how in the world I can follow the above steps if everything written on it are in japanase language? I also try to visit the manufacture's website, thinking that perhaps it help solve the problem but....i also need a japanase translator to understand it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI did an AVG Rootkit scan which turned up "c:windows/system32/userinit.exe" as a dodgy file. I removed it and now the machine won't login when I boot the system. With a bit more digging it seems that this file was actually the login information within the registry and as it can't find a valid user/password it just keeps asking me click the user name and login. When I click it just loops back and throws back up the window, asking me to click the user name again.How I can access the registry and reset the userinit.exe file?I've tried selecting "last good configuration" which didn't work.I also tried to download Bart PE on another machine (running Vista) to set up a boot CD, but it wasn't particularly clear how to go about it, so I tried using the XP System Recovery app on the install disks. This got me into a C: prompt.

I remembered that the Dell did not come with a Windows XP install disc in case I need to re-format. Is this normal? There is an option under Start....Accessories....System Tools to create OS backup disc. Is that what I need to make a disc or should it have came with one?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI go to Start -> Accessorties -> Windows Explorer the normal Windows Explorer comes up fine, with the address bar, and everything the way I like it. However, if I go to Start -> Run -> Directory Name then Windows Explorer comes up and everything is cool except that there isn't an address bar!
I also use some shortcuts on my Quick Launch bar that point to folders; these also will open Windows explorer without an address bar. I've tried right clicking on the taskbad and selecting Address Bar, but it doesn't work.

I think this happened when I ran AdAware. I cannot connect to my wireless internet had figured out that my IP ADDRESS is all zeros. I know my ip, I just don't know how to tell my computer what it is! If you cannot tell, I am barely literate in computers.

The problem exist only when I am here at home. This is the error message that I recieve. (Internet Explorer cannot download...a7fc446983ff06b7e30f8efdace18 from whatever IP address. Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later) No matter what size file it is or where it is coming from. I always get this same message. However I can go to work and download the very same file from there with no problem.
