JPGs In My Pictures Turning Into Background Files
Jul 10, 2006I'm running Windows XP. In the past few days, all of my jpg files in My Pictures have suddenly shown up on Display Properties-Desktop (in other words, instead of just the desktop background pictures that came with my Dell pc, suddenly all my personal pics are in the desktop backgrounds scroll list as well). How do I keep my jpgs, but eliminate them from the desktop backgrounds scroll list? (Display Properties-Desktop takes a looong tme to open now, because there are so many files in it). The same thing has happened recently on my wife's pc, also running XP.

Aug 27, 2005This is a bit weird and I have a feeling it's something that will have to be adjusted in the registry...
I have my My Documents on my physical second D: drive while all my programs and the OS are on the C: drive. In the My Documents folder is the My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns icons for and doesn't allow you to change the look of them.
I had been backing up this internal 60GB D:My Documents to an external 120GB USB drive. I decided to put the external one into the computer because I bought another external 160GB drive for backup.
OK, everything is fine, but the icons for My Music, My Video, My Pictures folders that XP automatically assigns are no more, they are just plain looking folders, but I can't customize them because these are the special folders that XP assigns for their specific use.
Does any one know what might have happened? Is it possible that the different serial number of the drive, or something else may have messed things up?
My Documents / Music Pictures Icons On The Start Menu Will Not Open
Oct 18, 2007I'd like to delete My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents. Though whenever I do, the My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu will not open.
It's redundancy not to my liking to have My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, and to have My Pictures and My Music icons on the Start Menu; which lead to the same folders.
Is there a way to delete My Pictures and My Music folders within My Documents folder, while still retaining their Start Menu functionality?
Icons With Video File Type Appearing Instead Of Thumbnail Pictures
Aug 4, 2009For reason(s) unknown to me, when I now select "thumbnails" or "tiles" from the View menu of my video files listing page, I am no longer getting thumbnail pictures embedded on the individual video files, just icons depicting what format file it is such as WMV, MPEG, etc.

1. I cannot find the internet option tab anymore. It is not anywhere.

Pictures Lagging Constantly: Internet Pages Loading Slow Too?
Aug 7, 2009I'm getting this perpetual lag issue. Windows folders and internet pages load slowly load slowly, and the mouse cursor responds to clicks when it feels like it. I've checked the mouse, and that's not the problem. I checked Task Manager and downloaded Process Explorer, but I never see more than 15% usage at a time. I've also run AVG for viruses/malware, but nothing comes up. I've had similar problems before, when a piece of hardware died, but so far I can't find any conflicts.

I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop.

Dec 1, 2008I have taken a series of pictures on different days and downloaded them into a folder in My Pictures. I need to put them in a sequence so I right clicked each picture and re-named it as follows: 001jpg, 002jpg and so on for 100 pictures. In view, I selected arrange icons by modified and all the pictures moved to the sequence I wanted. All is well and good until I copied the folder to a CD. All the pictures reverted to their original sequence instead of the sequence I put them in.
How can I copy the folder with the pictures in the sequence I put them in? Whenever I open the picture file to look at that folder, they are always in the sequnce I put them in
Icons Gone Mad - Browsed The Internet
Mar 10, 2007My icons have disappeared, and I want them back! Can someone help me out with this? The only system change, if any, was that I ran ad-aware before it happened, and my computer was fine while I browsed the internet, used Itunes,etc. Then I started playing a game that I play all the time, (Live for Speed), but it crashed to desktop, and my icons began to get whacky.They were blank for a time being, now they're all unknown file icons. I tried some suggestions I found on google, but with no success.

I did and then i restared the computer and got a buttload of symptoms. When previewing some images I have stored in My Pictures, I find when using the 'previous' and 'next' buttons I am able to pull up the next or previous pictures as I should. But when I e-mail an image to myself and then use the 'next' or 'previous' buttons, I begin to get images from web sites I have recently visited even if it is just my home page. While scanning my home page, for instance, I collect dozens of images in a matter of minutes.The only change I have made recently is a download of info from a digital camera disc to enable me to store pictures from my new camera.
I did a system restore to a couple of days before that download but I'm still copying dots, dashes, logos and pictures or frames from videos.

Aug 21, 2007i seem to be having a problem with my second computer. it keeps turning off and on. it beeps when ever it turns on.i have no idea what the problem is.i was trying to reformat the drive but it would not stay on long enough to read the cd.so i was thinking it might be the harddrive. so i put another harddrive in it that i know is working fine. it does stay on but i get first the safe mode screen. it does not matter what option i pick like start windows normally or start in safe mode after i hit enter i get a blue screen telling me windows has shut down to protect my system from a fatal error. it tells me to check my harddrive for viruses or errors. my problem is i don't know how to get past that blue screen to check my harddrive. i have to turn the computer off. it happens every time i turn it on.i would give you a log report but i can't make one.

Jun 3, 2005I've been having really bad computer troubles recently and really need some help, cause I've wracked my brain trying to think of possible solutions here.To give a bit of background:The computer in question is an AMD Athlon 1800+ that I've had for about 3 years now. It's not the most stellar computer, but I mainly use it to surf the web and play some low-end games nothing spectacular.Recently however it had started to reboot constantly, and eventually just power off and never come back on. I figured it was the power supply, so I purchased a new 400W one, installed it and everything was working great.Fast-forward a couple weeks later, and I started to hear a really odd noise coming from the computer. It sounded almost as if sparks were flying around inside, but I removed the case and checked what the problem was, and it seemed the CPU cooling fan was having some troubles, and eventually stopped working. So just today I went out and bought a new CPU cooling fan, installed it, and again, everything was working fine.
However, just tonight, the computer began to reboot randomly again, and now it is at the point where it will not turn on, and when I do power it on, it just idles and beeps constantly. They are fairly short beeps, but they continue on and on indefinitely. I read up on the beep codes and how they coordinate with the BIOS setting, but problem is I have no idea which BIOS setting I have, so I am not sure what could be the problem. To be safe, I began to unplug the cards one by one, seeing if any of them stopped the beeping, but to no avail.So I am at a total loss here Having just bought those two things recently and STILL having the computer act like a pile of garbage is disheartening to say the least, and I just hope someone may have an idea on what or how I could fix this.
Computer Turning On & Boots By Itself?
Oct 5, 2010My PC is around 6 years old, maybe older, and for the last couple of months, mostly during the night (which to be honest scares the hell out of me), it will turn on randomly. Sometimes it's when I move the mouse, which I know had something to do with a setting in the BIOS, but sometimes it's for no reason at all. It just...boots. Sometimes straight after I turn it back off. I've had to unplug it at night.I always shut it down properly - no standby or hibernation.

Dec 16, 2007here's the deal my vista kept getting blue screens so I reinstalled it. I was unhappy with it and tried to install XP. The computer keeps turning off on install while its loading files. I've formatted several times to try and get this working so now I don't even have an os to get on the computer with. I'm running an acer aspire 5100. I tried to get back on by installing vista again but the expanding files part of the install stops at 90% and I get an error. Repairs from both xp and vista install discs don't do anything.
