System Startup Screen And Boot Loader:F10 For System Restore?
May 26, 2008i rescently had to format the drive for a fresh copy. I have installed xp home retail version and realised i wanted to try something diferent. At system start the computer starts up prior to the windows boot screen and displays COMPAQ in big bright bold letters with option of F10 for system restore which is no longer on system (reformated) as well as other options for boot select pres ESC and F1 for setup.Can i remove this from my system? and then can i create a menu with 2 options 1 load windows normaly and 2 install a disk image stored on a hidden partition? maybe like the F10 key assighn that to access the imge and install it.
System Wont Get To Startup / System File Missing Or Corrupted?
Dec 15, 2008When I start the laptop, the first black screen loads, and then directly skips to an error message saying "Windows cannot start because the Windows/system32/ config/system file is either corrupt or missing." Then it prompts you to try to load Windows using the installation CD.which I do not have! Whoever's reading this, PLEASE please help me, the laptop's like, my life, and I haven't had the common sense to back up anything

Apr 4, 2008Whenever I start my computer up, the C:WINDOWSsystem32 folder opens up.. everytime! I have looked at several forums to try to fix my problem, and I have tried the fix at this website: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (line 260) and this is the message that came up:"the script cannot repair your issue. The expected Registry value was not found."I have no idea what to do.. I read on one forum that the guy had to basically clean off his hard drive and re install it! I REALLY don't want to have to go through that.. especially since I'm a college student, and finals are coming up.. the last thing I need is to be without my own computer. I have searched on this site for forums pertaining to this subject, but I haven't found any.

Feb 1, 2005I am currently running XP on my system. About three days ago, my system suddenly started taking longer to boot. The extra boot time comes in the form of a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left, where my system does not appear to be doing anything. This screen appears immediately before the Windows XP loading screen. I have tried Tweak XP utilities to try and speed up my startup. Failing that, I tried a system restore to a few days prior to this strange occurrance. Every time I try to run system restore, however, I am confronted with an error upon startup that tells me that system restore was unsuccessful. I have tried a variety of system restore dates, and all have been unsuccessful. I have tried sweeps with Spysweeper and Norton, and neither have brought any more insight into this problem.

Oct 24, 2009when i start my computer i get an error message saying that it cannot find a certain hive file.some systemroot/extensions etc it all disappears before i ca read it. we just had a power surge. it was on a protecter but it didn't protect it very well. anyway i am runing xp x64. i start it up, loads mem test etc and i press f1 like normal. then it shows the windows xp screen with the progress bar then i get a blue screen with that error message and then it restarts.

Apr 23, 2006I have an old computer. My uncle threw it together from scraps and sent it to me. It ran very well for about a year or two. It runs off Windows XP Professional. The problem with it now, and i just cannot figure it out, is when i go to start the computer. The computer boots normally, and so does windows, however when it displays "windows XP" just before showing the users list, it freezes. The mouse still is able to move, but it is as if there is no more users at all on the computer. I have been tinkering with it for over a year and still cannot find a way of getting into it, or getting it to work. Reformatting the computer is not an option because i have important information on the hard disk. Got any advice?

Aug 27, 2005I use xp pro and have Microsoft PLUS installed wich gives me a few extra themes to choose from. Everything works great except when i log in or out of windows i dont get any sounds, no matter what theme i use. It used to work fine and i am not sure exactly when it stopped.
I checked my sounds configuration and i can play the start up and shutdown sounds by testing them but they wont work when actually starting or shutting down windows. Even if i just use the regular XP theme i still dont get any sound.

When to start it in safe mode and now it wont boot, I get Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM It goes on to say to repair boot using the windows disk and select r.OK did that, now what? Dont know where to go from there.

Mar 7, 2006I messed up some of my .dll files so I needed to re-install Windows XP. While the installation process was on I was prompted for an Administrator ID and Password. I never had an Admin id before, there I created one. After the reinstallation I restarted my system and I was shown an OS choice menu where there were two entries named 'Microsoft Windows XP'. The first choice opened up the newly created guest account and when I logged in it had none of my previous data, it was just like a frest account. The second choice was my normal account that I was using before re-installtion. Now I was annoyed with the admin account and reinstalled Windows for the second time. After re-installing I saw there were a total of three OS menu choices, the first two were admin and the last one is my own account. So everytime I start my PC I have to manually select the third OS option. Its really annoying. How do I get rid of the first two OS choices?

Jul 10, 2010Everytime I boot Windows, I get a message saying that I should allow check disk to run. However, if I let it go through, it will never complete. After about 27%, I get another message for about 1 second that I can't read. All I get out of it is that windows incurred a problem and then it disappears to start the same process over again. I can't run check disk from windows, either. If I just cancel it, everything boots up as normal.

Jan 9, 2008My laptop has developed a problem where the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears at every boot. I'm running XP Home edition. This occurs even though I've selected "Normal" startup. Also, I can check the box to not show this dialog box again, yet it continues to appear. After appearing, it will tell me that I must reboot for the changes to become effective.
I've run spyware detectors and antivirus scanners but have come up with nothing. I downloaded a program Startup Monitor to see if it would identify anything. The message that I get upon boot with it is: "The program MSConfig has registered the executable C:WindowsPCHealthHelpCtrBinariesMSConfig.exe/auto to run at system startup"

Dec 15, 2004I swapped out a harddrive with windows 2000 pro from my dell dimension v400 to a dimension xpst550. The V400 has ATI Rage. The dimension xpst550 has a 32mb diamond viper v770 with nividia tnt. Everything went ok.I set up the monitor using the driver that windows 2000 found and recommended. No problems.... The system and the monitor worked fine.I went to Nvidia's web site and downloaded the latest drivers for this.. I had a couple of hang ups where Windows would shut down the program, in Microsoft Money. Web pages were no problem.So after a few more incidents of hanging up and shutting down the money program I uninstalled the Nvidia downloaded driver.. No more problems after setting up the moniter size etc again.

Nov 30, 2006Ive read a million topics on this but almost all of them deal with OBVIOUS solutions to the problem. Well I've already updated my OS (newest security patches, service packs, etc...), Antivirus,adware removal...etc... and for about 30mins after a restart, the lsass.exe system process eats all my cpu power. Once its done my system runs like a charm, but those 30min restarts are a waste of time. It is really starting to annoy me. No this is not a virus (according to AVG, McAfee, etc...) problem, or an Adware (spybot,adaware) problem. It is the legitimate system process eating my resources.
