Anyone know how to fix windows messenger so it will auto - log - in on system startup? Somehow I disabled it and have not been able to get it to work right since.
View 4 RepliesI go to start, control panel, click System, then click on Advanced, then Settings for Performance, uncheck Fade or slide menus into view, Show shadows under menus, Show shadows under mouse pointer, Slide taskbar buttons, Smooth edges of screen fonts, then I click on OK and OK again then re-boot and go back to look at the Performance Options and they're checked again :S anyways way to make then not checked for good and not get auto-checked open startup/re-booting?

As an example, MSN messenger runs and attempts to log in before my internet connection is active and therefore returns an error everytime I turn on my PC.I would have thought that theres a switch I could add after the shortcut command.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI did an adaware scan on my pc and removed the recommended items to quaratine. After restarting it my computer seems to auto log off at the startup screen. After some research I found a thread from mosaic1 who helped someone with the same problem. However I tried the steps in that post and it has not worked. I got a copy of userinit.exe and copied it to system32 (there was already a userinit.exe present anyway but I thought it might be infected). I also did copy userinit.exe wsaupdater.exe as suggested on the microsoft website but still no luck. I think there might be something wrong with the registery.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am running Windows XP on a HP Pavilion ze2000.I think I have a problem with Windows Live Messenger. Actually, I think I have several problems:
1. Messenger tries to load in my tray when I start the computer. It never did this before. It also does the same when I connect to my broadband via dialler. At the moment I am denying access through Zone Alarm. Is this normal?
2. In All Programmes I have a Windows Messenger Icon and a Windows Live Messenger Icon. Again, is this normal? There is only an option to remove Live Messenger in Add or Remove Programmes.
3. There is a "1 contact pending" message above the contact list in my Live Messenger, which leads to a "page not available" message when I click on it.
3. When I close Live Messenger, I get multiple "RPC Server Not Available" warnings which I keep closing but keep reappearing. They appear too fast for me to close them, so I have to restart my machine.
i've installed my Win Xp Home using an nLite mastered image on which I selected my user to autologin on boot. Now I want to turn that off, and have the login screen at boot instead. Any hints on how I shall do it?

I am able to get onto the internet with exlporer through other programs on my computer, but the main explorer icon is missing from my desktop and startup toolbar on the bottom left of my screen. I'm most concerned about outlook as there was a rather large mailing list there.I'm not very techie, so please answer in simple terms.

My wifes son My step-son has a habit of staying up till 3am chatting completely forgetting about needing to be up in 3 hours for school. I've looked at some software available and am not convinced that he could beat the system by just switching accounts. Maybe something that would only shut down selected programs AIM My Space and the like.

I don't know how to do that. I have ALOT of pictures I don't want to lose. If I cancel will it know that I never updated & ask me to update it again at a later time? How great is the risk if I just continue without backing up?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen Running windows and it crashes you will get a blue screen and it will automatically restart, ofter it will restart too fast for you to see the error message. You could check the error log in this case but that is too easy. We are going to disable auto restart on system failure.
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System (Windows+Pause works, too)
2. Go to Advanced
3. Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
4. Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"
Auto Run and Auto Play just quit working. I did the basic, went to the drives concerned, the Auto Play is enabled, looks like.The msconfig option is out of my expertize level. Would someone know what happened, and how I can get those options working again?BTW, the System Restore quit working, too. I tried to roll back to a good working setting, but SR didn't restore. I tried several times, different dates.

Problem is, if I load a CD or DVD into the Drive they dont auto run they just spin up, and to launch I have to do it through explorer, Similarly with my Digital Camera, when I plug it in its supose to ask me what i want to do with the files but the same happens the Nikon program does not auto run, have tried the solutions mentioned here bon this board but still no go.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi rescently had to format the drive for a fresh copy. I have installed xp home retail version and realised i wanted to try something diferent. At system start the computer starts up prior to the windows boot screen and displays COMPAQ in big bright bold letters with option of F10 for system restore which is no longer on system (reformated) as well as other options for boot select pres ESC and F1 for setup.Can i remove this from my system? and then can i create a menu with 2 options 1 load windows normaly and 2 install a disk image stored on a hidden partition? maybe like the F10 key assighn that to access the imge and install it.
When I start the laptop, the first black screen loads, and then directly skips to an error message saying "Windows cannot start because the Windows/system32/ config/system file is either corrupt or missing." Then it prompts you to try to load Windows using the installation CD.which I do not have! Whoever's reading this, PLEASE please help me, the laptop's like, my life, and I haven't had the common sense to back up anything

I have looked at several forums to try to fix my problem, and I have tried the fix at this website: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (line 260) and this is the message that came up:"the script cannot repair your issue. The expected Registry value was not found."I have no idea what to do.. I read on one forum that the guy had to basically clean off his hard drive and re install it! I REALLY don't want to have to go through that.. especially since I'm a college student, and finals are coming up.. the last thing I need is to be without my own computer. I have searched on this site for forums pertaining to this subject, but I haven't found any.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am currently running XP on my system. About three days ago, my system suddenly started taking longer to boot. The extra boot time comes in the form of a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left, where my system does not appear to be doing anything. This screen appears immediately before the Windows XP loading screen. I have tried Tweak XP utilities to try and speed up my startup. Failing that, I tried a system restore to a few days prior to this strange occurrance. Every time I try to run system restore, however, I am confronted with an error upon startup that tells me that system restore was unsuccessful. I have tried a variety of system restore dates, and all have been unsuccessful. I have tried sweeps with Spysweeper and Norton, and neither have brought any more insight into this problem.
View 11 Replies View Relatedwhen i start my computer i get an error message saying that it cannot find a certain hive file.some systemroot/extensions etc it all disappears before i ca read it. we just had a power surge. it was on a protecter but it didn't protect it very well. anyway i am runing xp x64. i start it up, loads mem test etc and i press f1 like normal. then it shows the windows xp screen with the progress bar then i get a blue screen with that error message and then it restarts.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an old computer. My uncle threw it together from scraps and sent it to me. It ran very well for about a year or two. It runs off Windows XP Professional. The problem with it now, and i just cannot figure it out, is when i go to start the computer. The computer boots normally, and so does windows, however when it displays "windows XP" just before showing the users list, it freezes. The mouse still is able to move, but it is as if there is no more users at all on the computer. I have been tinkering with it for over a year and still cannot find a way of getting into it, or getting it to work. Reformatting the computer is not an option because i have important information on the hard disk. Got any advice?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use xp pro and have Microsoft PLUS installed wich gives me a few extra themes to choose from. Everything works great except when i log in or out of windows i dont get any sounds, no matter what theme i use. It used to work fine and i am not sure exactly when it stopped.
I checked my sounds configuration and i can play the start up and shutdown sounds by testing them but they wont work when actually starting or shutting down windows. Even if i just use the regular XP theme i still dont get any sound.
Every time I computer start up the first thing that shows up is the SYSTEM 32 folder. How do I get this folder to stop popping up whent he computer starts up?

When I turn the computer on, and it goes to the WIndows XP screen loading, it restarts every time it gets there. I can't even get to safe mode or anything. It freezes on the password screen, it automatically restarts, usually takes me about 4 attempts to get my computer up and running. Then, when I finally do get it going it gives me a message saying:
THE SYSTEM HAS RECOVERED FROM A SERIOUS ERROR
I sent off my error report and a screen opened up with a few recommendations, such as running diagnostic tests on certain softwares, and trying a system restore, which I did but to no avail.
Have spyware galore, did the removal tools and got all except for peper trojan. When to start it in safe mode and now it wont boot, I get Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM It goes on to say to repair boot using the windows disk and select r.OK did that, now what? Dont know where to go from there.

I can't load windows because an error comes up that says 'floppy diskette seek failure'. I am on my ps3 trying to find answers so i can at least load windows.
