Last night I had to reinstall my drivers. I've double checked them all and believe them to be correct. My Icons now change to a sickly green when I hover over them or select one. My " favorites" also change to the same green when I chose one. I did something wrong but don't know what.
How do I change the colour of the green font circled in red? My OS is windows xp home sp2 and Im using the classic xp high contrast white theme. The green font is part of the theme and I cannot change it through properties>appearance>advanced because its not the 1st or 2nd font color.

I have had problems with my pc that was running on Win XP Pro so I installed WIN XP Home and now I have 2 versions and I am glad for that because the Pro version has all the drivers so I can listen to music, play videos and games but good for nothing else because it said a long time ago that I was not running a Genuine version of Windows (that's why I installed Home) and it won't burn cds and runs super slow not allowing me to do much

I have a Sony RS-220 desktop w/ XP home w/ SP2 & all updates since that's unable to auto install generic device drivers. I discovered this when I tried plugging in a couple different USB flash drives & it would just stop at the found new hardware wizard. Running the wizard w/ "install the software automatically" & also enabling "also search windows updates" returns unable to find device driver. The USB flash drive was the only bang in device manager. I uninstalled the usb controllers, rebooted and amazingly the controllers wouldn't auto reinstall. Suspecting the behavior extended to more then just USBs/the chipset I uninstalled some unneeded devices (56k modem & 1394) & they also wouldn't auto reinstall.
I went to the sony website & strangely Sony doesn't list the chipset available for download w/ the other drivers I downloaded the chipset direct from intel & installed it but that didn't work either. I've tried many other things to no avail. Malware scans (spybot, AVG AV, rootkitrevealer)...all came up clean. I've tried a new admin user profile, cCleaner registry cleanup, resetting registry permissions w/ subinACL, setting related windows services to automatic, checkdisk /r. Another thing I thought about doing was uninstalling the PCI controller, but I think I recall that can get ugly. Ultimately the only thing that allowed me to get my usb controllers, usb hubs, modem, 1394, & usb drive working was to "install from a list or specific location" & "include this location in the search" C:WINDOWSinf. Does anybody have any idea how I can restore the functionality of generic drivers auto installing & not having to point to an INF directory? Any insight is greatly appreciated.
I would like to change the name I used when I installed Windows XP (Home Edition). Can I do it someway with Windows installed or I need to reinstall everything again?
Since installation of Home Ed with Service Pack 2 there have been no problems with this computer I decided to change the monitor resolution to make reading a little easier and did thid Control Panel/Display. Rebooted for changes to take effect and the normal Windows screen appeared (showing the progress bar) and then when I expected the 'Welcome' screen to appear all that I get is a small window showing the words
I wanted to change icons on my desktop. so i was looking for the function, went into folder options, then to file types tab, I clicked on file folders, then on advanced. Didn't select anything, clicked ok. After that every time I click on a folder it would open in acdsee. So I went back there, couldn't find a setting to readjust it, then added a new command to open folders in explorer. Now each folder I click on opens in a new window.
i feel so stupid having to ask this question when there are so many others on this site with real problems, but here goes, i just bought a new computer running XP, and have no idea how to change the size of the icons on the desktop, i have very few icons on the desktop now, but they are BIG, and cannot find where to go to adjust them.

Using Outlook 2003 to keep open an email message while I respond to it. Now, the message I received goes away when I hit reply Let me do repetitive tasks by returning to the same folder, same view, same place? have to upload photos to some funky website that allows only one photo at a time. Even though the photos are all in sequence in a folder, for each upload I have drill down into the folder, change the view from the default "list" to the "details" view I need, sort that list by "date" and then select my photo to upload. Windows folder view and folder options has proven unreliable at best or useless, reportedly because I have more than 4,000 folders. I don't think I have that many but it never has worked and my tech support guy for my home office can't get it working Let me colorize or change icons for all folders so that when they are open at the bottom of my screen I can readily distinguish them from the email messages that are open
why everytime i restart pc i have to change all my icons in My Computer etc from Tiles To Icons. Is there a save somewhere to keep everything on Icons.
Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs will not load. It just keeps searching and searching for the "programs" and never actually shows the programs to remove.
A friend used my computer and now all the icons have white letters with a blue background. How do I change the coloring of the print on my desktop icons.
Let's say, for example, I had an icon on my desktop for My Documents. Is there any way to make the text "My Documents" black instead of white, because I cant see the white text on my white desktop picture.
I have Windows XP Pro, sp 2.I just reinstalled Windows and the icons in the System Tray and Quick Launch Toolbar are definitely smaller. Is there a way to change the size of these icons?
It was impossible to get an Icon Package / Theme that would change ALL the icons in the Start Manu. The Typical Problem would arise with the Search and Run icons (I have disabled the rest...)A small search in the registry and I managed to identify the "keys" that control the default icons. To change them you need to get in the registry, and that can be done by going to Start > Run (or WinKey+R) and typing "regedit" (yes, without the quotes...)
I have discovered that I am no longer able to change the colors of the icons on my desktop. When I get to that option in the Display Properties menu, the option is there but it is not active, it is grayed out or in this case beiged out. I am running XP Professional.
Can you tell me if it's possible to change the icons back to the original ones from websites? All my Favorite icons are the same (the default IE icon). Is it possible to change them all together or they have to be done one by one?
Windows XP Professional supposed to be a new generation right?? Microsoft (R) DOESN'T GET THE PICTURE, **WE WANT CALAITY** [THAT'S WHY THEY ARE MAKING Windows Vista (TM) ].I should know how to fix this problem but I'M VERY SICK AND CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT!In the desktop properties [deskop Right Click>Properties>Desktop] you can change the color that the TEXT is on for you icons, why can't you specify "NONE".My Desktop Icons look like this currently.
Go to control panel, folder options. Click on the File Types tab. Scroll to the file extensions you want to change and click change. Select the program you want. But it will not let me apply it as the apply button is grayed out.
I changed language settings on my pc to korean and then back to english, now i have 2 icons for every program i open on my taskbar, that is there seems to be 2 toolbars both containing every program i open. Anyone know a way to remove one of these toolbars?
I installed Paint Shop Pro 8 and a patch to PSP8, when I returned to my desktop, this horrible, empty green bar had taken over the bottom of my desktop. there is nothing on this bar except for the MS flag on the left side. Clicking it allows me to reveal my programs menu, but I have no idea what is open because nothing shows on this bar. I can neither move the bar or see underneath it.
I noticed that every file and folder in my XP pro laptop was read only. I attempted to uncheck the read only attribute, but the GREEN BOX just kept coming back. I went to microsoft's website and did the regedit and the command prompt commands, but it didn't work. I gave all user accounts (which is only one) full access in case it was a permission conflict. Failed sad.gif.
