View 3 Repliesi feel so stupid having to ask this question when there are so many others on this site with real problems, but here goes, i just bought a new computer running XP, and have no idea how to change the size of the icons on the desktop, i have very few icons on the desktop now, but they are BIG, and cannot find where to go to adjust them.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled Windows for my sister, who is visually impaired. I just installed Windows XP Pro. Just finished it, and then handed it over to her, to customize her settings. Since she has bad vision, she usually lowers the resolution down to 800x600 and has the font size and title bar sizes larger. Well as soon as I left her alone with her computer, she messed up the windows or icon settings so bad, so everything is HUGE. Everything is so huge, that (what should be) small menus now fill the whole screen. We can't get to the part of the preferences window to change the resolution to something higher, and we can't get to anywhere (that we know of) to change anything back to something resembling normal. Basically, we can't do anything anymore.I know I can reinstall Windows XP all over again, but since I JUST DID THAT I'd like to avoid having to do it all over again. Is there some way to reset the preferences, without having to reinstall the whole operating system for something so seemingly idiotic?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI go to appearance tab and change the size of my fonts under the desktop icons. I change the font size to 12. I click apply and it changes the fonts to 12. When I reboot, the fonts go back to the original 7 size. What do you think overrides the change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI wanted to change icons on my desktop. so i was looking for the function, went into folder options, then to file types tab, I clicked on file folders, then on advanced. Didn't select anything, clicked ok. After that every time I click on a folder it would open in acdsee. So I went back there, couldn't find a setting to readjust it, then added a new command to open folders in explorer. Now each folder I click on opens in a new window.
Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs will not load. It just keeps searching and searching for the "programs" and never actually shows the programs to remove.

The panel has no controls for vertical/horizontal size and whatever monitor is used, an OS desktop fills the screen by default. I can resize the window for the TV viewing program in the normal way, just filling my projection screen, but the XP desktop is far too large.Does anyone know of a way to change the physical size of the desktop (including the taskbar) so that it sits in the LCD screen with a blank border all around, or maybe even make it custom resizeable as in a program window ( without changing the resolution)?

View 8 Replies View RelatedWe recently purchased a 22" widescreen Samsung EX2220 LCD monitor. Unfortunately the icons and labels on thedesktop and the teston the toolbars, taskbars, drop down menus are too small. I've changed the setting several times (Control Panel -display-Appearance-"Font Size" and all the "advanced" settings.) By doing this the fonts and text gets larger. However, every time we re-boot, all the settings go back to the way they were small. Does anyone know how to keep they large after a reboot?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWell this issue is really simple, I have two operating systems: Windows XP Home Edition and Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx installed on my computer, both systems are installed into a single HD, each on its own partition.
My HD is 120 GB and I have 60 GB for Win and 60 GB for Ubuntu, my question is: Is there any way to safely change this partition size WITHOUT uninstall any of my OS? I've been using my computer for about 6 months with this partitions, which means that my two systems have some applications and programs installed and I feel really lazy about reinstalling Ubuntu and all my programs just because I want to change my partition size; of course if there is no other solution I'll have to do it, I know this works because I partitioned my Win 120 GB partition to accomodate Ubuntu when I installed it, using the partition wizard that comes with the Ubuntu installation program.
I posted about this a few hours ago in XP forum but I can't find it now. When I click on it in my profile I'm taken to a page in the Feedback forum but it doesn't seem to be their either.?At most sites I cannot changing the font size. I have tried using Ctrl > scroll wheel and View > Text size But the text does not change. When I use Ctrl > scroll wheel the View > Text size setting does change. When I attempt to change font size the scroll bar moves moves tiny bit as though the font size was [going] to change.I am able to change the font size on very few sites. On the CNET site the font is much smaller than others. In fact it is so small I can just barely make it out with my reading glasses. But after a moment I have to stop as my eyes start hurting bad.I am able to change font size in Word and such. The font size in this Message body box is normal but the font size in the Subject title box is tiny.I am using XP Home SP2 and IE6. No viruses, ad/spy ware, etc.I would appreciate any help to fix and/or understand what may have caused this problem. If anyone responds please send it in email to me via my profile as I probably won't be able to make it out in the forum.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn my Dell Desktop, I reformatted and reinstalled Windows XP SP2 4 months ago. Today, I tried to adjust the Paging File size but could not. I cannot change it to having the system manage the file, nor can I change the custom file size.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter a malware infection (Inet2 and SpySherriff - which took over my desktop) I cleaned up some files, directories and registry-entries. Now, after the cleaning activity as explained by techguys, everything seems going well. All programs do start without problems (through the start-menu or the quick-start taskbar), but there is a small drawback: my desktop screen shows only my wallpaper, there are no icons. The right-mouse click on the desktop also doesn't work (although the desktopsettings are accessible through the control panel). I use WinXP pro. what is wrong and how do I get the icons back on the screen?

I changed (increaded) the Page File zise (Virtual Memory) on both drives and it corrupted the Registry. Now it does not even let me re-install winxp on that drive. Towards the end of the installation I get a message that it cannot copy certain files. The file names varies according to the SP version on the winxp pro cd.
Also, I lost the original OS disk from DELL.
I can not change the size of the Internet Temp File cache. The slide bar moves, but the size of the file remains the same. No matter what size I select, 10, 15, or 20mb, the error message "Set size to 1 or 0" appears. If I set the size to 1, I get the same error msg. This is causing no end of problems with my e-mail. It takes upwards of 45 seconds to open each e-mail. And in most cases I can not go to any ref'ed URL mentioned in an e-mail.
