Enable Auto Run Your Floppy Drives

Jul 3, 2003

Ever have the curiosity to enable auto run on your floppy drives? Probably not, but just in-case you have had the itch to do so, I will explain how it's done. This tip involves editing the registry, so I would highly recommend making a backup of it first before proceeding.Find or create the key :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->Microsoft->Windows->Current Version->Policies->Explorer->Then find the value named : NoDriveTypeAutoRun.Note : if your value has 95 in it, proceed to step 1, if it has "B5" or anything else, proceed to step 2.Step 1. Right click on this value and click Modify. If the value has 95 in it, delete the number 95 and replace it with 91 , making sure to keep all zeros and spaces in the value.Step 2. If the value has B5 in it, or any other letter followed by the number 5, change ONLY the number to 1, so, for example it looks like B1. NOTE: If you value does not have 95 in it, and instead has a value with a letter such as B and then a 5, this tweak may not work. Then click OK, restart your computer, and you will now be one happy auto run man.

Auto Start Options For Hard Drives And CD's?

Sep 21, 2007

When I boot my external hard drive or put a cd into my laptop (running XP), a window pops up, like normal, asking which program I would like to run in order to view the multimedia on the drive. I used to have Nero and other programs like Jukebox, which I have uninstalled, but they still appear on this list as options, although they have no icon and do not work. How can I modify this list to remove the defunct programs? How can I have it not appear at all or run a defualt program automatically?

XP: Hal.dll -- Reformat Drive C --- Lose All Data

Jan 2, 2007

My computer told me that my hal.dll file was missing or corrupt, so someone from this wonderful website directed me to an article that told me how to re-set the startup to the cd rom drive. After that I was able to start re-loading xp from the cd that came with the computer. The problem now, is that halfway through, my computer said that drive c has to be reformatted, and in order to do that, all files on the c drive will be deleted. Is there any way around this? I don't have access to the start button or anything else, so I don't know how to back up whatever is on my hard drive before I reformat the drive to finish installing xp!

System Restore / Lose All Software And Files

Aug 28, 2005

PC model W2785. It is a 2700+ AMD Athlon XP Processor. 512 MB DDR RAM, I have recently upgraded my graphics to a G-Force FX5500 AGP 8X with 128 MB DDR. I gave all this info just to get to the question: I am having a problem with Window's System Restore. I have through time created several restore points so that I could go back if I needed to replace something that I lost by messing up and deleting some part of some software that's on my computer.

Everytime I try to use Window's System Restore it acts like it is working. It goes through all the procedure, then reboots, but when my computer gets back up and running I get the message that my computer could not be restored to the chosen restore point. It doesn't matter which restore point I choose it is always the same. What do I do to get Window's System Restore to start working again, short of reinstalling my computers original software, which will lose all software and files

Worstations Intermittently Lose Connection To Network

Jul 29, 2005

On my office network, the domain controller is a Win2000 Server. Ever since I began upgrading workstations to Windows XP two or three years ago, I have had difficulties. The machines running XP Pro lose connection to file shares on the server (and other fileservers) after a period of inactivity, sometimes as short as five minutes, sometimes as long at 2 hours. When the user tries to open a network share, Explorer hangs.sometimes after 3-5 min a username/password dialog will ask you to authenticate using a different user account than the one you're logged in under, then your connection is restored for the time being.other times, you end up getting a "file not found" or "you do not have permission to access this network resource" error. I've been dealing with this for two years, and recently it's gotten a lot worse on one computer, so I need to fix it badly.

Lose Connection To Internet After Several Hours Of Inactive

Aug 9, 2005

I have a new Compaq Presario M2105US with XP sp2.My network includes 2 iBooks with airport cards, the Compaq Presario and a Desktop Mac with enthernet connection to my Linksys WRT54G v.3 wireless router. I've got TimeWarner broadband.I can easily connect to the Internet through the Linksys router with all computers. However the Compaq will eventually lose the connection to the Internet (though not to the router) after several hours of inactivity. But only after several hours (perhaps 4 hours or more, but not less than 3 hours). If I use the computer in the evening for example and take several breaks, everytime I come back to the computer and wake it from sleep, it will quickly re-establish the Internet connection. However if the computer is sleeping for hours, like overnight, and I wake it up, it appears to re-establish contact with the router because the network conneciton reports a connection with very good signal strength. But I can't access the Internet. Only by logging off and on again or by restarting can I regain internet connectivity.

Mapped Network Drives: Programs Unable To Find Drives?

Apr 20, 2006

I have setup a wireless network between two computers in my office and have installed some software that will automatically backup folders on each of the two computers. It work by backing up certain folders on computer 1 to the hard disk on computer 2 and vice versa.I also have a program installed on both computers that uses the data on computer 1.simplify the process of locating the data on my network I have created virtual drives using the Map Network Drives function in Windows. However; if I start up my computer and open these programs - they can not find the drives, I have to open My Computer first and double click on the drives before the programs will read from them. I am guessing that for some reason Windows is not connecting to these drives, even though I have set them to "reconnect at logon".

Cd And DVD Drives Paths To These Drives / Deleted From Windows

Dec 27, 2007

I recently installed the program registery fix and i believe it has caused my Cd and DVD drives or the paths to these drives to be deleted from windows as they do not show up in my computer. I have tried the options in the following list but none of them have helped me, i'm really stuck but i can't fix the problem.
- I've tried deleting the upper and lower filters but they are not in the selected registery.
- I've tried a system restore but i can't go back to a previous point before the registery fix install.
- I've tried unplugging the leads and restaring but this didn't help.
- I've tried microsoft guided help but it couldn't find the upper and lower filters.
- i beleive they are still listed in my bios but don't know exactly what i'm looking for when in bios.
I don't know where to go from here, i also run alcohol 120% a virtual drive software and the registery fix has had no affected on these drives but i'm wondering if this maybe why the program registery fix deleted my actual drives becasue of the virtual drives and replaced the paths to my actual drives but i'm not sure it's just a guess. I've deleted the virtual drives and tried the steps above but i've had no luck.

System Not Seeing Removable Drives - Get Dvd Drives Back

My operating system is Windows XP Pro. As of yesterday all was fine, I even burned a DVD. Today "My Computer" isn't even showing my DVD/CD recorder, only showing Drive A: 3.5 Floppy. It started when I downloaded (I think) WindowsBlinds, just wanted to do some color changes. Well when I installed it, Norton came up with a Trojan. Norton Quarantined or deleted it and said no more further actions required. The install finished (windowblinds) and I tried a couple different skins and decided to uninstall it. Uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller

Generic Host Process Crash - Lose Connection To My Wireless Access Point

Generic Host Process Crash So I have this problem and it's been driving me crazy for some time now. It seems that "randomly" when I lose connection to my wireless access point, I will get a Generic Host Process for Win32 crash. I have disable the forced shutdown that usually occurs after this happens, but since it renders the system mostly unusable, I have to reboot anyway. What's odd is that it doesn't happen every time I lose connectivity to the network.

Many Removable Drives - Shifting Other Drives

I am using Windows XP Professional SP2 on an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe MB. I have 5 internal HDD's and 2 external USB drives, I also have 2 DVD R/RW +- Dual Density drives, a Zip 250 and an Orb 2GB drive. So far this year I have had to reinstall my Windows like 8 times and done about 4 Windows repairs! Each time I seem to get 4 extra removable drives added to my system. In Disk Manager they are listed as "Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device", I have changed Device Usage to Do Not use this device (disable) and also I have uninstalled each device. Unfortunately, each time I restart the computer, they come back, shifting other drives to another drive letter.

Loosing Mapped Drives / Loosing Connectivity To Drives?

Jun 6, 2005

I work for a fire department and they have Desktop Authority map certain network drives when they login. For some reason, DTA will map the drives when they login, and everything works fine, but after an hour or two, they lose connectivity to that drive and are no longer able to access it. I know this is very vague, but has anyone had this problem?BTW, I just recently upgraded from NT 4.0 to Server 2003 Standard, and we've had tons of other little problems with permissions and the like. Is this the cause of the dissapearing drives?

The computer does NOT re-boot, it only cycles back to the user selection (Welcome) log-in screen. I have also attempted to boot the computer in safe mode and access the Administrator account. The results are the same. Also, I also tried the "Last known good configuration" in safe mode
