My interent connection seems to just disconnect randomly every so often (Depends, sometimes in hours, sometimes often) The green light for the link just goes, and begins flashing for a bit, then re-connects. Its been doing this for sometime now, anyone got any suggestions on why? I use some Zoom USB network adapter model, connects to comp, to modem, to phone tab bit from which I get the phone and modem connection.
I am not using a router, but i still unexpectedly lose my internet connection, i'm using windows 2000 professional, i've check with cablevision and they say everything including the modem is running fine, they suggest problems with my system settings, any ideas as to what might be causing this, it happens 3 or 4 times in a 6 hour session, if i shut down my system I can get right back on the internet.
My computer keeps losing internet connection everytime i reboot. It also changed the theme from Windows XP to Windows classic. The programs have been running extremely slow. I have tried to search for solutions but I can't find any.
Just recently started that when I click on Outlook Express to check my E-mail, I get instantly dis-connected!A couple of times I stayed connected for several second and than I think when Norton antiVirus kicked into check for viruses than disconnected.Norton is updated. I am puzzled? I don't know much about PCs to start with.
On my office network, the domain controller is a Win2000 Server. Ever since I began upgrading workstations to Windows XP two or three years ago, I have had difficulties. The machines running XP Pro lose connection to file shares on the server (and other fileservers) after a period of inactivity, sometimes as short as five minutes, sometimes as long at 2 hours. When the user tries to open a network share, Explorer hangs.sometimes after 3-5 min a username/password dialog will ask you to authenticate using a different user account than the one you're logged in under, then your connection is restored for the time being.other times, you end up getting a "file not found" or "you do not have permission to access this network resource" error. I've been dealing with this for two years, and recently it's gotten a lot worse on one computer, so I need to fix it badly.
I have a new Compaq Presario M2105US with XP sp2.My network includes 2 iBooks with airport cards, the Compaq Presario and a Desktop Mac with enthernet connection to my Linksys WRT54G v.3 wireless router. I've got TimeWarner broadband.I can easily connect to the Internet through the Linksys router with all computers. However the Compaq will eventually lose the connection to the Internet (though not to the router) after several hours of inactivity. But only after several hours (perhaps 4 hours or more, but not less than 3 hours). If I use the computer in the evening for example and take several breaks, everytime I come back to the computer and wake it from sleep, it will quickly re-establish the Internet connection. However if the computer is sleeping for hours, like overnight, and I wake it up, it appears to re-establish contact with the router because the network conneciton reports a connection with very good signal strength. But I can't access the Internet. Only by logging off and on again or by restarting can I regain internet connectivity.
Generic Host Process Crash So I have this problem and it's been driving me crazy for some time now. It seems that "randomly" when I lose connection to my wireless access point, I will get a Generic Host Process for Win32 crash. I have disable the forced shutdown that usually occurs after this happens, but since it renders the system mostly unusable, I have to reboot anyway. What's odd is that it doesn't happen every time I lose connectivity to the network.
When i turned on computer started ok but when it was almost booted up and on the desktop i get this pop up window 'desktop' Internet Explorer has been removed from this computer . Do you want to clean up your personalized settings for this program yes or no when I click on no it brings up my desktop and My IE icon is there and my internet works great , I have tried to reboot but still get this pop up ,afraid to click on yes don't know what this will do and don't want to lose my IE.
My computer told me that my hal.dll file was missing or corrupt, so someone from this wonderful website directed me to an article that told me how to re-set the startup to the cd rom drive. After that I was able to start re-loading xp from the cd that came with the computer. The problem now, is that halfway through, my computer said that drive c has to be reformatted, and in order to do that, all files on the c drive will be deleted. Is there any way around this? I don't have access to the start button or anything else, so I don't know how to back up whatever is on my hard drive before I reformat the drive to finish installing xp!
Can a partition be divided into two partitions using XP software without losing data? What is a virtual partition? Advantages, disadvantages? If 3rd party software is required, then please make recommendations. My machine is running XP Home SP2. The drive came from HP with two partitions. One partition's software is locked.
In the past week I have noticed that every time I start my system I am losing a .5 GB of space on my hard drive. I use Norton for virus protection. I have done a chkdsk with no avail. Scans show no worms, virus or any other problem.I have gone from 65 GB to 55 GB in two days.
i have xp, and i have a vista disc, i was wondering if i could dual boot with vista so i don't have to format my hd when loading vista as i don't want to lose all my applications.
I found this program when browsing the net. I did the scan and apparently i have plenty of problems with my pc 408 in total anyway to fix it i would have purchase this program or reload my ms xp ,i just dunno whether to trust this program also about reloading repairing my xp what is the best way? and will i loose all the docs i suppose i'm best of taking copies of everything on my pc
PC model W2785. It is a 2700+ AMD Athlon XP Processor. 512 MB DDR RAM, I have recently upgraded my graphics to a G-Force FX5500 AGP 8X with 128 MB DDR. I gave all this info just to get to the question: I am having a problem with Window's System Restore. I have through time created several restore points so that I could go back if I needed to replace something that I lost by messing up and deleting some part of some software that's on my computer.
Everytime I try to use Window's System Restore it acts like it is working. It goes through all the procedure, then reboots, but when my computer gets back up and running I get the message that my computer could not be restored to the chosen restore point. It doesn't matter which restore point I choose it is always the same. What do I do to get Window's System Restore to start working again, short of reinstalling my computers original software, which will lose all software and files
my computer stalling/freezing for no reason. I have AVG and have used Ad-aware and Spybot Search and Destroy and neither have found a problem. Sometimes all of a sudden I lose access to the internet, Im on a LAN but when I lose access the other computers on the LAN still can access the internet fine. If that problem doesnt occur, my computer just decides to stall and when I restart it sometime freezes on the Window XP screen.
I doubled the size of the Taskbar to accomodate the shortcuts to web pages, and I drag URL's to the Taskbar. After a few days of use, the icons are replaced by IE default icons.
I am having a problem with my Dell Dimension 4700. I had to format my hard drive and reinstall windows XP Pro. I then went to the dell website and reinstalled all the drivers listed under my computers service tag.Now whenever the computer is restarted or if I run certain programs like Windows media player or quick time I have to delete and reinstall the sound driver through device manager. I can normally regain sound without having to restart my computer. But when I try to use a program my computer does not like then I loose sound again. This is very aggravating.
I have a 'new' HP with XP Home on it... I also have a Full upgrade to XP Pro disk from my Dead Computer... I want to 'Upgrade' from Home to Pro; but, I am very nervous is there anything to watch out for? (I don't want to lose anything) - HP Tech Support says it IS possible -yet, after some of their other, not so hot answers, I am very nervous about this... (mainly I don't want to lose the stuff on the Hard Drive (Programs/Files) -they give no CDs. Thought - Comments - To Watch out for?
my cable is not working properly.Every 15-20 minutes my internet connection is broken even though the modem is online and there is no problem with the cable coming into my house. I have to reset the cable modem and then it works for another 10-20 minutes until the next cut. Ive had this problem before (last time i changed computers) but cant remember how it was resolved. I already talked to my ISP support but these guys are brain damaged or something and cannot even comprehend my problem and all 3 actually concluded that i had somehow contracted some killer virus immediately after connecting my computer and this virus was the root of my problems
I go into network connections, then I try to disable my lan connection and enable my wireless and bamm."Error Disabling Connection- It is not possible to disable the connection at this time. This connection may have one or more protocals that do not support Plug-and-Play".
I have tired to get rid of this bridge connection that is on my local area connection. I try to remove it with the bridge connection area and all it says is "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing." I have AT&T hig speed internet and tired talking to them and they said it was on my end, plus I spend two hours on the phone to someone who doesn't know much english and not alot about computers. So can someone please help me. The only way I can connect to the internet is through the my D-Link router which sucks
I recently reinstalled Windows XP Home on a friends computer, but when I went to create their dialup connection to the internet, I couldn't.I went into the 'Internet Connection Wizard'. Told it that I was connecting directly to the internet. Then I told it I was going to set up the connection manually. But whenever the option comes up to setup a dial-up or broadband connection, the dial-up option is greyed out and unselectable. In device manager, it shows my modem as being fine. It's installed with no conflicts.
I got a Toshiba with windows XP.. Its an older laptop and runs slow.. which is fine for what i need it for.. It is connected through a Dlink Cable modem. Recently moved and had a DSL connection of 3 years no problems. Had to switch to cable broadband. The lights all light up solid no problem. Network cable connected to no problem. Problem : NO internet
Unplug netowkr cable from cable modem (get the network cabled unplugged in windows, so it is seing the modem or atleast talking to it)Tried using the windows xp network srtup wizard. I did that hub one (connected thourhg a hub) and i tried the direct connection (goes from modem to computer).
I've been trying to use Remote Desktop to connect from my home computer to my office network's machines. I've followed all the instructions except for the part where it talks about getting a "virtual private network connection". Not sure if I have this part done right. Not even sure if this is the problem. Is there something that needs to be set up before being able to connect from a home computer to an office machine?
I have just checked the 'connections options' and found that the box 'always dial if a network connection is not present' has been checked. Am i right in thinking that the 'always dial my default connection' box should be checked instead? or doesn't it make much difference? (I am usding Windows XP home) A friend of mine set up my email up for me and I am using 'Orange' as my ISP. For some reason he has put 'Orange anytime default 2' instead of just Orange. I hope this all makes sense?
What info do I need on the server side to allow access to the client computer. I know in xp (the server) in this case, you can allow users access by adding them and giving them access. Just wondering what kind of info I add on the server side for the client to have access.. Do i put in the client computer name, workgroup or Ip address? Internal IP address or external? I'm basically trying to setup a connection to allow me to use remote desktop from work to access my home PC. Home PC is using xp pro and work PC is using Win98. I've already setup the VPN connection at work (win98), just need more info on setting up the Host PC. Like what exact info I need from the client PC, to add this info to allow access to my Host..
on the connect box, it asks me for user name & password, is this for my company's private network? if so, then what is it & where can I get this information.
I have a Linksys Router WRT54GS with latest firmware v4.50.6. I have IPsec, pptp, and l2tp passthrough enabled with port 1723 being forwarded to the correct ip address. I have disabled all firewall software. I try to establish a vpn connection to myself using the local ipaddress and it gives me error 800. Likewise, using my wan ip address fails also. Anyhelp setting this up would be appreciated. Thanks
ps ipsec services and remote access services are enabled and started.
